Salah on target as Liverpool assets prosper at Leeds

We continue our Scout Notes of the weekend’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) matches with analysis of Leeds United v Liverpool.

For a recap of all of Saturday’s action, check out our Scoreboard summary here.

LEEDS UNITED 0-3 LIVERPOOL

  • Goals: Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Fabinho (£5.4m), Sadio Mane (£11.9m)
  • Assists: Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Thiago (£5.4m)
  • Bonus (projected): Alexander-Arnold x3, Alisson (£6.0m) x2, Thiago x1, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) x1
  • Red cards: Pascal Struijk (£4.4m)

SALAH JOINS 100 CLUB

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) netted his 100th Premier League goal by slotting in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£7.5m) perfect cross.

The Egyptian is the 30th player to have joined the ‘100 club’, with only four others reaching the milestone in fewer appearances.

In a match where Liverpool outshot their opponents 30-9, Salah was lively throughout, registering three shots in the box and 1.22 expected goals (xG).

He also came close to adding an assist when Thiago (£5.4m) headed home, but the Egyptian was a yard offside.

Liverpool doubled their lead after Leeds failed to clear an Alexander-Arnold corner, with Fabinho (£5.4m) smashing home from six-yards out, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) firing in during injury time for the Reds third.

The Senegalese winger finally scored with his 10th shot and third big chance of the game.

Sadio Mane’s shot map v Leeds United in Gameweek 4

TRENT’S CREATIVITY

Alexander-Arnold served up his second double-digit haul of the season, via an assist, clean sheet and three bonus points.

The England international’s creativity was again on show, as he created five chances and attempted nine crosses. In fact, his totals of 20 chances created, including four big chances, are both more than any other player in the game.

Again, we saw plenty of infield movements, which is captured on his Gameweek 4 touch heat map:

It’s also worth noting that Diogo Jota (£7.7m) was a little unfortunate not to register an assist with six created chances, with Mane particularly wasteful in front of goal.

ELLIOTT INJURED

An excellent match was overshadowed by an unfortunate ankle injury to Harvey Elliott (£5.5m), who was stretchered off just after the hour mark.

As a result, Pascal Struijk (£4.4m) was sent off, and will now sit out Leeds’ next three fixtures.

LEEDS YET TO WIN IN LEAGUE

Following this afternoon’s defeat, Leeds are still yet to win in the Premier League, but with fixtures easing from Gameweek 5 to 10 (see below), the likes of Raphinha (£6.5m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) still look like good options for our FPL squads.

Junior Firpo (£4.8m) took up some nice advanced positions, especially in the first-half, and could be one to add to the Watchlist, though Leeds will be without Struijk and possibly Diego Llorente (£4.5m), too, who limped off in the first-half with a hamstring injury.

LEEDS XI: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente (Struijk 33), Cooper, Firpo, Phillips, Dallas, Rodrigo (Roberts 45), Raphinha, Harrison (James 68), Bamford

LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago (Keita 90+3), Elliott (Henderson 63), Salah, Mane, Jota (Oxlade-Chamberlain 82)

    Traore/Salah/Fernandes/Jota/Benrahma
    Toney/Antonio/Perica

    Thinking of Fernandes + Toney -> Raphina + Ronaldo for a -4.

It's boring but works. Any other suggestions?

          Maybe
          James to Williams
          Sarr to Jota
          Bissouma to Sissoko

Then rotate Williams, Livramento and Sissoko

If Firmino was injured long-term I would agree with you. Do you think Jota will get enough minutes when Firmino is back?

            James, Sarr vs. Jota, Williams/Livramento/Sissoko

Chelsea's fixtures are not so good right now. You could be right. Then change at gameweek 7. Maybe Jota can be effective at least until then.

Hahah Jesus - good work. The only two comments I would make are 1) I am not convinced by Leeds' form at the moment. I know they have had tough games, but they do look like they're struggling. I would consider not having Raphinha. 2) I don't like having non-playing players and your 3rd striker is a bench fodder

0.3 is the max. I don't think it will increase by more than 0.2 though.

How’s this team looking? -4 to correct my mistake and bring back TAA.

Moves would be Antonio + Shaw > 4.5 striker (fodder) + TAA.

    Formation 4-4-2 for now

    Sanchez
    TAA - Rudiger - Coady - Duffy
    Salah - Jota - Benrahma - Gray
    Ronaldo - Lukaku

    Subs: Steele, Livramento, Mendy, 4.5striker.

£1.6ITB to maybe move out weak links in following weeks, probably move out Mendy > Sissoko then leave the 4.5 striker to rot on my bench.

    Thanks in advance.

I do think in general he’s overhyped as FPL star. Plus they were playing against a better team.

I do feel one Leeds attacker is needed with their great run

I have it on my draft wildcard but it will come down to whether I can fit in Bamford or not

I think Bielsa gets them back firing sooner rather than later so I'm risking the triple up going into their good run...can always lose one of the attackers if they continue to struggle.

Right now the best thing is to wait and see what happens with Odsonne Edouard (6.5) and Armando Broja (5.0). Otherwise you can downgrade to a 4.5 and upgrade in defense.

I would recommend that you save your transfer and have better information next week.

Yep. I'd probably go Lukaku this GW to save a transfer on 7. Altough GW6 captaincy might swing it to Ronaldo. For 4-6 it wasn't that close for me on WC.

I sit firmly with you in the Salah +1 camp. It will be tricky to catch the hauls between say Ronaldo & Lukaku by switching between them but the distinguishable run of favourable fixtures makes it possible I think with the obvious options below….

          Ronaldo (5-6): Whu AVL

Lukaku (7-11): SOU bre NOR new BUR

Ronaldo (15-20): CPL nor bre BHA new BUR WOLVES

Yeah I think you’re probably right. Maybe playing the fixtures in sections like this is the right way to go. I’m on wc atm and was thinking of Ronaldo for 2 weeks and switch, but I think Lukaku might actually have the slightly favourable match up this coming week, in which case maybe I should ignore gw 6 and save a transfer. Also means I can go for Chelsea defence now rather than another planned transfer for gw7

Obviously Tsimikas is an issue. Not sure it's pressing enough to use a transfer this week.

Both are good. Very hard choice.

DCL, Marcal, White VS Gallagher, Cancelo, James

A will win in short-term becouse of fixtures. It all depends on Gallagher if he can provide from time to time.

      What do you think?

Totally stuck here with 0 itb and only 1 FT. Any ideas?

Ideally I would like to get Raphinha for Benrahma somehow but also need to get rid of Toney

    Pickford

    TAA Shaw Coufal White

    Salah(C) Greenwood Jota Benrahma

    Ronaldo Toney

    Subs: Begovic, Gilmour Livramento Antonio

Dump Ben or Tony? I would recommend to dump Ben first becouse you know you want Raphinha with Leeds fixtures. Maybe Odsonne Edouard at 6.5 could be an option. Better to wait at least one more week with him. Broja at 5.0 maybe can be an option. Better to wait on the forwards to see if any can get a starting spot.

Yes I would like to do Ben > Raph but I’m a bit limited with 0 itb

I could maybe downgrade in defence but would need a -4

Unfortunately it looks like Toney might have to wait

You should save the transfer and change next week. Ben could get something at United. -4 all the time is not good for your ranking. We can't jump on every new shining t everyhing time.

how much itb with that team though ? you could upgrade one of the defenders probably and have a nice 433

One of Salah, Lukaku or Ronaldo could be getting 20 - 30 points each week with the captaincy on not owning them will hurt.

actually you can afford to upgrade both of Williams or Livra to 4.5 defenders

    - Eduoard
    - Hwang
    - Broja

Obvs we need to sit and wait on them but how was the eye test if anyone saw?

Broja a super sub type player? Or does he look like he'll break into the first 11?

Broja's cameo in the game against West Ham was impressive. Strong and aggressive, perfect for the league. Another day he scores.

For Edouard, I watched the Palace game too and its too hard to say. He wasn't on long and Tottenham were down to 10 and tired. He took his first goal well. Got the ball in the areas a striker wants them and actually finished. Can't really read much into it other than he knows where the goal is instinctively which is a good sign.

Didn't see the Wolves game, only the highlights so can't say on Hwang Hee Chan.

Holy Moly, after watching the highlights I feel like I'm missing a few Salah/Jota points

Also VdV telling Matip to mark Bamford when Leeds broke was pure class, love his awareness, it's fantastic to see such top drawer defending

It’s time to wildcard isn’t it? (No CR7)

    Sanchez (Steele)
    TAA Shaw Coufal (Mumba) (Pollock)
    Salah Pogba Jota Benrahma (Mendy)
    Lukaku DCL Antonio

    0.1 ITB

It sickens me to use a WC to bring in Ronaldo (I hate him). But everyone (including my mini league rivals) have him, so it’s worth a wildcard right?)

Also should I drop Antonio or DCL?

Yep my team value is poor and making it near impossible to fit this quarter in!
I bought Antonio 7.6 so only 0.1 diff if he drops so yes will probably sell

      Exactly my question.
Probably comes down to Lukaku and cheap striker who may/may not play much or Bamford plus Antonio/DCL

Can’t answer that right now need the week to tinker 🙂

For me it’s a question of doing Bruno and Antonio to Raphinha and Bamford, then leaving the cash in the bank to bring in Lukaku for GW7 or just bringing in Lukaku now and ignoring Bamford. I’m leaning towards just bringing in Lukaku now as I’m hopeful he’ll be on pens too. It’ll give me a front 3 of DCL, Richarlison and Lukaku. Richarlison will go eventually but I’ll keep him until they’ve played Norwich

Cool looks good. Do you have Greenwood as some United cover?
I’m trying to fit both Ron and Rom but my team value is pretty poor so my midfield stinks / big compromise

Was going to go Ronaldo then Lukaku later to spread the likes of Bamford Torres etc

Early season price drops have taken its toll already

            Yeah I’ve got Greenwood.
            Sanchez
            TAA Shaw Reguilon
            Salah (c) Greenwood Raphinha Benrahma
            DCL Richarlison Lukaku
            Bench: Steele Duffy Gilmour Livramento
I might actually play Duffy ahead of Reguilon next weekend
