Harrison absent with coronavirus as Raphinha and Bamford start

Gameweek 5 gets underway on Tyneside this evening as Newcastle United play host to Leeds United.

Kick-off is at 20:00 BST.

Raphinha and Patrick Bamford, both of whom were the subject of some internet-fuelled injury rumours during the week, start for the visitors this evening.

Marcelo Bielsa has made two changes from the side that lost to Liverpool, both of which are enforced.

Daniel James makes his first start for Leeds since his summer move from Manchester United, replacing Jack Harrison. The outgoing winger has tested positive for Covid-19.

Mateusz Klich comes in for the injured Diego Llorente, meanwhile, with Luke Ayling seemingly set to move over to centre-half in the absence of Pascal Struijk and Robin Koch.

Steve Bruce makes one change from the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United last weekend.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who missed the start of the season after suffering from the after-effects of Covid-19, replaces Freddie Woodman, who injured himself in training during the week.

GAMEWEEK 5 LINE-UPS

Newcastle United XI: Darlow, Clark, Lascelles, Hayden, Ritchie, Manquillo, Almiron, Willock, Longstaff, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin

Subs: Gillespie, Schar, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, Fernandez, Fraser, Murphy, Gayle

Leeds United XI: Meslier, Ayling, Klich, Cooper, Firpo, Phillips, Raphinha, Dallas, James, Rodrigo, Bamford.

If it was Saturday night football, nobody would care about leeds. They would be just happy to Have 1 goal, 1 assist. Now that its the only game today, people have something to cry about

... okay? Semedo might do OK. Traore might fail again.

I don't know. Less pressure with the good fixtures as they could pop off whenever.

Bamford, Raphina & Semedo owner. Happy with Leeds players points. Both teams have a good run of fixtures, (Leeds next 5 GWs, Wolves next 10) so I'll leave all 3 in & focus my transfers elsewhere.
Thought Leeds could have scored more first half, so I'm not knee jerking based on the second half.
Relatively cheap / mid price players likely to return a steady flow of points, enabling the premiums of Ronaldo, Salah, & the likes of TAA, Antonio, Jota etc to have the most impact.
Surprised by the reactions of many on here. Hopefully all those complaining sell Bamford & Raphina to make them lower owned & more impactful. Happy days.

This is a red flag though, taking your main striker and replace him with a bench player fighting for the same place is not positive. Although they may start 2 upfront.

Seems as though Bielsa was managing his minutes due to some niggling injury. Didn't appear injured in any way when departing the match which is a good sign for his owners and Leeds in general. They definitely lost their mojo when he was subbed!

      • 8 Years

      Duffy 4.2 / Livramento 4.1 / B.Williams 4.0 / Manquillo 4.0

4 defenders in the 4m price range which all look nailed for the time being. Can't remember any time when it has been possible to form such a cheap defence of at least 4 playing defenders. Theoretically you could add a 9.5m goalkeeper duo and another 3.9 non-playling def and you would end up by only spending 29.7mio for a full defence line including 1 sub. Or just keep a premium def like TAA and go with 2 subs and still enough funds to spend elsewhere...

Duffy is the only one playing in a half decent defence. Livramento not bad for that price, Saints defence us shaky enough. No point in skimping on defence if there are points to be won getting Trent, Chelsea, City defenders and a fodder keeper.

      6. F4L
        • 9 Years

At best you get 3-3.5PPG from rotating them, rather have my premiums averaging 5PPG.

        • 9 Years

But you've got City and Chelsea with the best defences in years 5.5-6

        Wolves 4.5-5.0

        Brighton as well

      8. Yordan Letchkov
        • 8 Years

I would never go that way of course, but it could be interesting to see how and if the lost points from such a cheap defence could be compensated from the few millions you could invest more in to the offense over a season period. Especially this season when a lot of managers try to squeeze additional premium players in…
Agree on the value of premium defenders of course.

Depends what else you’d do with the money.

You’d cover his clean sheets, but what about when he gets the occasional 15+ in a week?

            Not at all, I’ll rephrase:

Depends what else you’d do with the money.

By holding Matip you’ll cover Trent’s clean sheets but what about when Trent gets the occasional 15+ in a week.

Good luck mate, great differential. Owning would be enough for me but go hard or go home.

I once had Ozil when everyone else had Sanchez, Ozil hauled, Sanchez blanked and I got a GW rank of 833. You remember that gameweek more than the countless ‘captaining the poll leader’ ones!

        Good luck

I think we've all been a bit spoiled this season with mega hauls. I'll take a goal or assist quite happy from any of my players.

The performance was a bit meh, but the fixtures are undeniable and I'm sure Leeds will have better games over it.

Not properly crocked but seems like there was a concern over him playing the full game, supposedly due to a small issue he picked up.

Would be surprised if he doesn't play the full 90 next week. Probably misses the League cup game midweek.
