The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Eight – The Manchurian

Granville may well be exotic but he’s not Manchurian, despite what the spellcheck told me a few weeks back. He’s also a happy man. Winning on all fronts, he’s dishing out “one helluva beating” to yours truly right now.

Reveling in his position of power, the Hungarian Mancunian brings me to task on my jerky knee transfers, with the regular ScoutCast favourites scattered around that particular discussion.

Get your ears around our foreign tongues via this link or stream the nonsense through the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it time to give Michu the boot and look elsewhere?

Are we holding on out of sentiment for his early season returns or is he a season keeper?

As far as I know, now he plays as a striker. Returns will come.

My forwards look decidely dodgy at the moment with all 3 yellow-flagged (RVP, Ba and Defoe). I'm pretty sure all will be OK to play as it seems these flags are due to managers protecting their players from a pointless Friendly match. I think I will still captain RVP with a non-flagged player as VC (Fellaini at the moment). Anyone else having similar dilemma?

Ba played the 90 minutes against WHU so he couldn't have been injured during the match. Any injury would be likely from post-match soreness or stiffness. Wouldn't expect it to be anything serious. Reckon it's Pardew just protecting his top striker from being injured in the International match.

Geared to gain a lot more responses…..what are you all doing with your double/triple Stoke coverage this week?

How about those of you with triple stoke and single/double West Ham, or Double west ham double stoke?

I dont have Jusski, and Begovic is going nowhere all season for me barring injury.

I currently have Begovic, Saylor and Noble starting, with Demel and Cameron on the bench. Hoping for a score draw, save pts for Begovic and the like.

Funny though....if Noble gets a pen and Begovic saves it I will only be slightly happy. So now having read that im completely lost.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Giroud if your a risk taker, Suarez if you like safety and Ba if you're somewhere in the middle.

I like Giroud, great stats and plays for Arsenal who have a clear run of fixtures.

I have backed Suarez to the hilt on here, but fear some are taking it too far now that he has come good. Liverpool (my team) are still a poor attacking side and not improving. He is excelling in spite of them.

Great option, I think he is World Class, but with a suspension soon..

Two words that should not go together, I know. Stats wise he is fine and looks set to continue. Bang in form and is class. No rotation.

      Ba/Giroud for price

Suarez for...actually I'm not really sure.

I'd say the Ba/Giroud because they have the same monopoly of chances in their respective sides. And I'd class both their teams as better than Liverpool currently.

      Last 5 weeks:

      Suarez - 33 points
      Giroud - 29 points
      Ba - 16 points

This doesn't count Suarez's 20 point haul in GW6 either. Giroud looks to be finding form too so he might do better than Suarez this GW. Tough call.

Just something I posted in the morning when it was quieter.

You get a slightly surprising result when you judge if Caz and Bale have been fantasy successes.

It’s GW11 (a big and therefore representative sample you can make projections from). Bale is on 57 points, Caz on 56. By the end of the season they’re projected to get 197 and 193 points then. If I recall correctly, the highest scoring midfielder was Bale last year with 195 points at the same price as both. Therefore Bale and Caz are set to have the same score and value as last year’s highest scoring midfielder.

It is only because they are slightly behind other midfielders this year that we are restless. It’s relative, not absolute.

But the gap is much smaller than our stereotypes. The top scoring midfielder is in fact out of favour Hazard on 69 points, only 12 points ahead of Bale and 0.7 more expensive.

    Just some food for thought.

Isacki, I am not sure I agree with you. A couple of points:

      1) Points up to date isn't necessrily indicative of future performance...you can't simply project based on information to date. Injuries, form, fixtures - it all comes to play.
      2) Just because someone ends up with 190 points over the season, doesn't mean the optimal strategy is to have owned them over the course of the season. If they hit a bad stretch, you can transfer them out and then back in when they hit form.

My risks abound team. I'm really banking on Aguero and Rooney coming good in the next few weeks. It has more risk then RVP/Silva/Tevez, but more reward as well imo. Rooney has stronger home form this season then RVP, with two home games next against easy opposition. Aguero looks in form and has strong stats home and away, with upside to match RVP's imo when he plays.

    Begovic

    Baines, Wisdom, Simpson

    Mata, Morrison, Bale, Hoilett

    Aguero(VC), Ba(C), Rooney

    Tremmel, Maloney, Wilkinson, Cuellar

0.2 in the bank. Think I may do a simple Wisdom to Hughes move, don't think Wisdom will hold down his spot. Leaves enough money to upgrade Hoilett to Ramirez next week.

The captaincy is a headache, Aguero is high risk/reward due to rotation. Ba is off color, but it's still Swansea.

Maloney is the best option and he's cheaper than Sterling, no brainer. People are blinded because it's a young fresh face at a big club, and that's why his price has shot up. Makes having Maloney as my 5th mid all the more sweeter 😀

He pays it back over time. I'd be looking at holding onto Silva until Christmas.

Also, he pays it back in value. Cazorla is probably going to go down 0.1m and Silva will gain 0.1m.

It's not immediate returns we're talking.

I might do it for free but if you're taking a hit there's got to be an element of immediate return otherwise why take the hit, do it next week.

The value is alright but you could make much more jumping on next week's big bandwagon (assuming it isn't actually Silva)

I don't think Silva will do enough to justify a hit this week. He usually gets 6/7 points, on a steady basis. In other words, if you wait another week, I don't think he will throw in a 17 point performance to make you regret it!

Tiote available but quite a few injuries.

If cisse is available we'll play 442, if not it's hard to call-either 442 with Shola up front or 433 with Obertan/sammy/shola wide. Expect Anita to start in midfield due to lack of options plus another in midfield but we're really getting down to the bare bones.

Considering giving the armband to Aguero this week. He carries the most risk of a one pointer this week, but funny enough also carries the most threat if he plays. High octane move with lots of risk and reward potential.

Too risky or worth a roll of the dice? City subs like scoring if worst comes to worst..

It's a valid point, he is a modern footballer, but Mancini does like to baby sit one of his best players.
