Arsenal v West Ham Boxing Day Game Postponed

Arsenal have this afternoon announced their Gameweek 19 home clash with West Ham, which was scheduled for Boxing Day, has been postponed due to the proposed industrial action on the London Underground.

The Gunners have, however, confirmed the game will now take place on either Wednesday January 23 or Saturday January 26, depending on both sides’ respective third round results in the FA Cup. This affords the pair a double Gameweek in the middle of the FPL winter wildcard window – an enticing scenario for Fantasy managers.

Certainly, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the two sides could exit the FA Cup at the first hurdle. The Gunners travel to Swansea on Sunday January 6, while West Ham play host to Man United the previous day – if they both go out, they would then be free to square up on Saturday January 26. Alternatively, if either of the pair progress, the game will be rescheduled for Wednesday January 23. Both dates will fall in Gameweek 23, which already finds Arsenal travelling to Chelsea, while West Ham playing host to QPR before the rescheduled encounter.

In the short-term, it’s potentially problematic for owners of the likes of Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard has already been drafted in by over 40,000 FPL managers after his 23 point haul at Reading on Monday and with a trip to Wigan to follow, he could be in for another potentially prosperous weekend. Strong benches are more essential than ever right now and while many may be tempted to ship out their Arsenal and West Ham Fantasy assets after this weekend, the pair still have strong fixtures prior to the upcoming double – the Gunners face Newcastle and Southampton after their trip to Wigan, while West Ham’s schedule (rdg, NOR, sun) also looks favourable.

As that game has been called off, I have no keeper on boxing day.

Looking at the fixtures, there is no obvious keeper to get in for boxing day.

    Any suggestions??

Great news for me - anyone with sense will avoid bringing in Cazorla/Walcott this week so I can clean up when my Arsenal midfield double brings home another 4 goals.

Think I'll hold through the blank, Cazorla and Walcott on the bench. Maybe bring someone actually playing in for Noble and then bring out the big gunners again for NEW & sou.

I know, not saying that these have all been due to strikes but it's meant to be traditional for all teams to play at 3pm on Boxing day. Given the recent strikes they shouldn't schedule Arsenal home games on the 26th. It's a shame as i love when my team plays on a normal 3pm kick off on Boxing day. Hasn't happened in 12 years though

I hope the undergound goes 100% over to driverless trains at some point. I'm all for people stickingg up for their rights to better pay and working conditions but underground drivers really do hold people in the Capital to ransom. They do it too often and it's not like they are badly paid either, for the work they do, so I have little sympathy for them.

I lived in London for three years and I agree. They subject millions of us to regular inconvenience in what appears to be a game between the unions and government where we the people are the pawns.

London doesn't work properly without the tube. Getting rid of it is holding it to ransom and they know it.

What will Cazorla (or Walcott, etc) owners do then? On one hand you could shift him out for another midfield big hitter for Boxing Day (Mata, Bale, Silva). On the other hand, if you can still put out a team with him on the bench, that's one less transfer you'll need to do between Boxing Day and the DGW if you keep him.

I am wondering whether something needs clarifying: RE: WC GW 24

I have seen a lot of people asking about winter WC and when is last GW you can use it and the reply always seems to come back "GW24".

If you read the rules, it says that you can use the Jan WC up until the END of GW 24, which is in effect the deadline for GW 25.

In my mind, this means that GW25 is the last GW for which you can use your WC.

I mean if you were playing it now, you would be imagining it was a GW18 WC right? Yet according to the FPL site we are still in GW17.

So last GW you can use WC for is GW 25. Just make sure to get it in before that weeks deadline which is Satruday 2 Feb at 11:30, just before QPR vs Norwich.

It's a good point well made.

Ah, you're not wrong. It says in the rules that the deadline for the wildcard is 2nd Feb 11:30. So yes, you can play the wildcard to come into effect for GW25.

no problems. i just keep seeing everyone saying GW24....

I might copy and paste this and post it again some other time as it is a pretty common misunderstanding.

Please feel free to do the same!!!

    Best options for cheap defenders?:

    Clark (AVL)
    Lowton (AVL)
    Turner (NOR)
    Nelson (QPR)
    Shorey (REA)
    Clyne (SOT)
    Fonte (SOT)

    Any more?

Will Fellaini go down again tonight? And is 0.3m the most a player can drop in one week? I know it's the most they can go up.

Is it the most they can go up? Is this a myth?
