Spot the Differential – Gameweek 38

There’s no doubt our final three differentials of the 2013/14 campaign are very much in the punt category. For many Fantasy managers, it’s now or never, though, and as many mini-leagues go down to the wire, we turn to a trio of midfielders and take inspiration from last season, where West Ham skipper Kevin Nolan fired a hat-trick on the final day of the campaign:

Andre Schurrle

On his day, the Chelsea midfielder has proven to be one of the most explosive Fantasy options around. So far this season, Schurrle has produced a 15-point haul at Stoke, a 20-point return away to Fulham and 12 points in a 6-0 home hammering of Arsenal in Gameweek 31 – seven goals from just 1,303 minutes, compared to Oscar’s eight in 2,046 minutes suggests that with greater game time, the German could flourish further as an attacking option.
After a frustrating end to the season, both domestically and in Europe, Jose Mourinho’s side have the chance to take out their frustrations on relegated Cardiff in Wales later this afternoon. Schurrle – who is available for 6.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 8.0 in the Sky Sports game and 4.0 in the Sun Dream Team, – has now started six of the last seven Gameweeks and is likely to retain his spot in the first-team as the Blues square up to a porous Bluebirds backline that has conceded three or more goals in five of the last seven league fixtures.

Yannick Bolasie

Can Palace’s wide man finally break his drought in the final match of the campaign? Bolasie has fired 44 shots over the course of the campaign – the same number as Raheem Sterling, for example, though the Liverpool winger has notched nine by comparison. Indeed, no other player in the Premier League has registered shots that the Eagles winger without finding the net.

Certainly, Bolasie will be hopeful as Tony Pulis takes his side to Fulham – a team that have conceded 83 times this season on their way to the Championship. Having delivered three assists in the last five, he’s picked up in consistency of late but remains firmly in the Fantasy shadow of team-mate Jason Puncheon. Costing a budget-friendly 4.9 in FPL, 4.5 in the Sky Sports game and 1.5 in the Sun Dream Team, Bolasie may finally earn the goal his recent contributions have more than merited.

Emanuele Giacherrini

A peripheral figure for Sunderland over the last few months, the Italian has relied on brief appearances off the bench to remind us of his capabilities. With Gus Poyet confirming his intentions to rotate for the home game against Swansea, Giacherrini’s chances of a start look likely – all the more so given that both Lee Cattermole and Seb Larsson are struggling with knocks in midfield.

The summer signing will be hoping to replicate the form that only recently served up a pair of assists against City in Gameweek 34, followed by a goal and assist against Cardiff 11 days later. Available for 6.2 in FPL, 6.2 in the Sky Sports game and 3.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Giacherrini’s talents could help the Wearsiders take advantage of a Swans defence which has been breached 11 times in the last 12 Gameweeks, as Poyet attempts to steer his in-form outfit to a fifth successive victory.

The toughest decision this weeks seems who to chose between Sterling and ERiksen both having something to play for EPl and Europa respectively
Sterling has form but many already bringing in Studge to help with Suarez,it could lead to too many eggs in 1 basket so risky
Eriksen being against a clueless aston villa and tottenham strong home form seems good but on paper he has blanked last 2 matches
Any thoughts will be welcomed 🙂

its a coin toss, just do one of them, neither is a bad choice
Liverpool better than spurs but Eriksen more central to spurs attacking points

It could easily be a 15 points haul for the one and a blank for the other. I'm leaning towards Eriksen but this is probably because I have him and don't own Sterling.

Two decisions left for me this week. Just 9 points off top 10k so I could really use some help. Who would you play in defence:

    A) Coleman and double up on Everton
    B) Ward and spread the risk

The other question is about my final punt. I'm tight on budget so I decided to transfer in on of the Stoke boys. Who do you fancy:

    1) Odemwingie
    2) Arnautovic

Thanks in advance for your opinions. 🙂

If I have a 25 point lead in my mini league but I have Aguero whilst my rival has Dzeko then I need to take a -4 to do Aguero to Dzeko right ? I am more interested in winning my mini league than finishing with a higher rank.

Thanks everybody for the advice, it seems such a pointless transfer doing Kun to Dzeko but as mentioned, if I captain Suarez and he captains Dzeko and Dzeko goes nuts then I lose. At least if I get Dzeko in then I halve the damage.

      Evra will start IMO.

Mata is a doubt to start, but I think he will.

Ramsey and Wickham will probably be both rested. Ramsey for the cup final , and Wickham as Poyet said he's gonna make wholesale changes this game + He's been carrying around a knock for a while now

Aguero is fully fit to play, just not sure he'll start. Will probably be involved in the game though, off the bench or straight from kick off.

Really conflicted - would appreciate opinions. Terrible week last week and my rival pulled back 32 points, putting him 2 points ahead for the final GW:

    My team:
    DDG
    Azpi Demi Distin
    YYT Mata Ramsey Amalfitano
    Suarez (C) Sturridge Aguero

    His team:
    Manonne
    Cahill Coleman Azpi
    YYT Mata Ramsey Sterling
    Suarez Dzeko Adebayor

Not feeling confident at all with so many starting doubts. Already did Roo -> Studge.

    A) Remove Mata for a hit (maybe StevieG or hazard)
    B) Remove Ramsey for a hit
    C) Remove Amalfitano for a hit (really like the look of arnautovic)
    D) Sit tight and hope for the best

I probably won't. Not knowing half the players is probably the reason though.

In some ways, it's been a frustrating season but also looking to be my best overall finish so far.

Maybe I can start watching all the match of the days I've recorded which I've been too disillusioned to watch after particularly bad fantasy football weeks...

A.Mata to hazard, -4, play Bruce as my only available 3rd defender
B.Jones to ivanovic, -4, play mata with puncheon first sub if he doesn't feature
    C.Save the hit

Chasing a 40 point lead in desperation and rival wont have either of players I'm proposing to bring in. Can't get Gerrard as already have 3 Liverpool!

Ok Rooney replacement... Dzeko or Sturry surely

Is there any one who pindered this question found some stats or advice to choose one over the other?

Wham more resilient than Newcastle I think soo opting for Sturry.... But Dzeko is on form and both have to go for it...

    Any thoughts?

if you have aguero - go sturridge
if you don't have aguero - go dzeko

at least in my opinion. of the two I'd go sturridge though

Have Aguero and Suarez so I thought Sturridge

Tricky one though Either team can go forth and destroy their opponents

        It's a tricky one!

Nigh on everyone here (not me) got burned with Aguero just days ago and now are lemming like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire considering Hazard.

I dont get the Aguero to Dzeko -4 brigade.
City wont be gung ho, they only need a point, Dzeko has to score to make up the -4 and Aguero WILL feature plus he is a way way better player

Aguero won't definitely feature if you ask me. On the bench only to come off if City aren't winning by the 60th which I think they will be.

The World Cup is in 4 weeks and City only need a draw to win and he's missed nearly half the season with recurrences of the same injury.

Pellegrini said fully fit squad though, he probably wont play 60 but his conversion rate is so good i still think he is woth keeping
