Captain Sensible – Gameweek 10

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Under normal circumstances, Diego Costa would be the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll but, as we know, things are not quite straightforward when it comes to Jose Mourinho. Nonetheless, having returned to training yesterday, faith in the Chelsea striker is building and he leads the way ahead of a plum home clash with a QPR defence that have shipped at least two goals in all four of their road trips. After scoring in each of his four home appearances, Costa leads the way with 29% of the votes cast so far.

Elsewhere for Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have earned 9% and 6% of the votes cast. The latter has been the most consistent, with a goal or assist in seven of his nine appearances, though Hazard delivered a double-figure haul in his previous match at the Bridge and has spot-kick duties to fall back on.

Alexis Sanchez sits in second as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Burnley. Subject to huge investment this week after taking his tally to five goals in his last six appearances with a brace against Sunderland, the Chilean has been backed by 20% heading into the weekend. Over 5% have opted for Danny Welbeck, though his form is a little disconcerting – he’s picked up points in only two of his six appearances since arriving in north London.

In third spot, Sergio Aguero remains firmly in our thoughts in spite of a surprise blank against West Ham. Up against a United defence that have picked up just three points on their travels, the Argentine has persuaded over 14% to hand him the armband – although his four-goal haul against Spurs is fresh in the memory, Aguero has stuttered at the Etihad and has scored in only two of his four home matches.

Further down, the likes of Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling are still in contention ahead of trips to Hull and Newcastle. Pelle has picked up points in six of his previous seven now and stands atop the Fantasy Premier League standings on 59 points, though the Tigers have tightened up since reverting to a three-man backline and have kept out their opponents in two of their last three. Sterling, with just two assists in the previous four, will be optimistic of returning to form against a Magpies backline with a single shut-out in seven.

Hey guys - looking for some opinions on my team and possible transfers if you'd be so kind. I'm about 25 points clear in my mini-league as it stands.

    Forster

    Ivanovic - Clyne - Baines

    Siggy - Fabregas - Sterling - ADM

    Costa(c) - Pelle - Welbeck

I've got 2 FT but no money in the bank; I can't decide if its worth changing some of the team around or sticking with what I've got, I'd like to get Sanchez in but he's a bit too expensive with my lineup without using both FT's and taking a hit also.

Is Siggy worth keeping against Everton this week and Arsenal next?

      A) Downgrade Siggy and upgrade welbeck to Bony/Lukaku
      B) Downgrade welbeck to Berahino and Upgrade Siggy to Eriksen
      C) Clyne > Chambers Welbeck > Bony

    Telegraph league - limited transfers

    Fabianski
    bertrand kaboul tripper
    Siggy Hazard ADM Sterling
    Agero Costa Pelle

(5 of 30 transfers used so far)

Sanchez is listed striker. Is it worth getting him:
    1. As a straight swap for Costa or Aguero
    2. Do Sterling/Pelle to tadic/Sanchez
    3. Hold as is and forget Sanchez?

      3 > 2 > 1
Swap is crazy. Aguero bound to score in derby & Costa Vs. QPR.
With Mane doubtful for the saints, Pelle is the key goal scorer.
Sterling has slowed down since his mad form back in august.
      Maybe look at:
      4. Sterling to Tadic & HOLD

I have the same question. I wanna drop aguero albrighton for sanchez berahino. But i have to take a -4 hit. WIth silva out injured. There will be much less pass to aguero. Its gonna be much harder to score.

    Hi Guys,

    1FT + 0.3 ITB
At 3rd & 24 pts to cover in my Classic League.
At 4th with 8pts to cover in my Head-to-Head League
I have a horrible Defence IMO, need EVE cover for their schedule
& wanted FAB or COSTA back in my team
    NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS.

    Krul (Mannone)
    Terry, Moreno, Chambers, (Tomkins, Hutton)
ADM, Sterling, Tadic, (Siggy OR Chadli) ????
    Aguero, Pelle, Berahino

    Was thinking:
    A) Tomkins -> Alcaraz & ADM -> FAB (for -4 hit)
    B) ADM -> Milner & Berahino-> COSTA (for -4 hit)

Hi fellow scouties, any thoughts on this lineup, who do I captain and who do I change?

    Begovic
    Clyne, Baines, Dummett
    Sanchez(c), Cork, Sigurdsson, Sterling,
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    Myhill, Morena, Bruce, Cattermole

have 1FT and 0.2 in bank...

Looking for suggestions, please chime in, oh wise fellow scouts!

    GK: Guzan (Mannone)
D: Bertrand, Clyne, Chambers (Duff, Williams)
M: Di Maria, Fabregas, Hazard, Sterling, Sigurdsson
    F: Naismith, Costa (Ulloa)

1 FT, with 0.1 in the bank

First thing fI want to address is the forward situation; I'd like Pelle in there, maybe Berahino too, but whom to lose? Hazard? Costa? It's probably overkill to have both Fabregas and Hazard in there, but with QPR coming up, is now really the time to cut one of the two?

Hey guys I am in desperate need of some TLC!

    Forster (Myhill)
    Clyne Baines Chambers (Wisdom, Schlupp)
    ADM, Sterling, Fab, Siggy
    Aguero, Pelle, Welbeck

    1FT 0.9 in the bank

I really want to get Sanchez/Costa in but not too sure what would be the best way?

Thinking ADM -> Sanchez, Welbeck -> Costa, and then Sterling to someone over the next two gameweeks

And I'm not too sure whether to transfer Sanchez or Costa in this gameweek or save the transfer?

    Please help!

    Thanks

Thinking of doing a gamble this weekend! Any input?

    Current team:

    Begovic
Moore - Jagielka - Clyne (Wisdom - Taylor)
Di Maria - Sigurdsson - Fabregas - Sterling (Jones)
    Welbeck - Aguero - Costa

I have got two free transfers this week.. Thinking of doing following:
    Sterling out, Sanchez in
    Welbeck out, Eto´o in

Its a bit of a gamble, but Martinez said today Eto was a godsend.. He played 90m last match, scored two goals.. What do you think?

I am really strugglin with captain choice, currently my team is this:

    Clyne -- Lovren -- Bertrand
    Di Maria--Barkley--Fabregas--Sterling
    ---Pelle---Costa (c)---Welbeck

    Bench: Siggy, Wisdom, Senderos

Just wanted to ask whether Costa is a good choice for captain and also if Barkley is a good risk to take instead of Siggy?

I don't have any ft left this week so I'm going to hold off on Costa until next week. (brought in aguero for costa when he first got injured)

I've got a tough decision though as to how I want to bring in Costa

      Mannone Begovic
      Chambers Jagielka Duff Moore Clyne
      Sterling DiMaria Jedinak Fabregas Sigurdson
      Pelle Aguero Wellbeck

      1.6 itb

      Options
      A) Siggy to Wanyama (or other midfielder 4.6 or less), Welbeck to Costa
      B) Siggy to Wanyama (or other midfielder 5.3 or less, Wanyama would allow me to turn DiMaria into Sanchez the following week) Pelle to Costa
      C) Welbeck to Berahino, Pelle to Costa
      D) Sterling to Chadli, Wellbeck to Costa
      E) Sterling to Chadli, Pelle to Costa (and then i can afford DiMaria to Sanchez the following week)
      F) Jagielka to Wisdom, Pelle to Costa (this leaves me super thin at the back)

I think I like C and E. I definitely want to look to get Sanchez in the following week.

    There's the (K)un Factor & there's...the (C)osta Factor

IMO with Silva out Kun's chances are much limited. Also, he's notched all Bonus points ONCE! PS, Aguero blanked vs West Ham.

Costa will score a hatty at 50% doubtful. Bonus Points or nah, you still get results

...this is where I'd choose to captain Pelle ...again

I'd pick Sanchez. He's on form and faces a struggling Burnley plus he could play in the hole

Costa's good but let's face it, he was sick & injured. Might not be as good

    3 tough Dilemmas:

    1. Put in 11:
    - Gylfi (Ev away, will start, coming from inj)
    vs
    - Sakho (Stk away, on fire, injury concerns, may come off bench and bring 1 point)
    2. Captain:
    - Sanchez (Burnley home, on fire, doubt he'll do 10+ 3 times a row)
    vs
    - Costa (QPR home, 2 weeks layoff, no one knows the shape he's in)
    3. Trade to Chambers for -4:
    - Moreno (Newcastle Away, release funds, doubt Liv are good for def returns)
    vs
    - Dier (AVL away, sick and tired of him bringing nothing, may have CS this week)
    vs
    - keep both for this week, not worth the -4
