Wigan got things underway today with a crucial 1-0 win over Newcastle. Ryan Taylor curling in a superb free kick past the returning Given in goal. Taylor had earler conceded a dubious penalty for a foul on Sibierski, but Filan denied Solano from the spot.
Blackburn disposed of Portsmouth who suffered a horror-show first half. Nonda struck the first after just 2 minutes, volleying home Campbell’s poor back header. Nonda then capitalised on confusion between James and Pamarot to claim a second, before crossing for Warnock for the third. The former Roma striker missed his opportunity to claim the matchball after his penalty was saved by James.
Spurs continued their run of form by sticking 4 past Bolton. Keane started the day as hero, hitting two goals and claiming an assist for another Jenas goal. Keane was then harshly dismissed for “handling” Campo’s goal-bound effort. Speed despatched the resultant penalty only for Lennon to seal the victory on 90 minutes from Melbranque’s pass.
