Newcastle lose Barton for six weeks

Joey Barton will miss the start of the start of the season having picked up a foot injury that will see him sidelined for around 6-weeks. Barton has suffered a partial fracture of the fifth metatarsal during the pre-season game with Carlisle yesterday. He will now target the home game with Wigan on September 1 as a possible return to action. With Parker now at West Ham, Big Sam will either opt for a Butt/Emre midfield pairing, or dip back into the transfer market to bolster his midfield.

  1. Do you not see a possibility that Geremi might play in midfield? He already looks like a possible wrong clarification in Premier Fantasy League – would be interested to hear you views?

  2. Yep, not sure a central midfield role was earmarked but certainly he’ll spend some time in a wider position I imagine and now Barton is injured, he could well feature in the middle. Defo an misclassification in the making with Geremi, although some games have opted to class him as a midfielder. He made his debut in midfield on Saturday and he had direct free-kick effort so good call. One thing to bear in mind though - Newcastle miss a game in August so they only play 3 matches.
