Cahill Sidelined As Club and Country Clash

It’s no surprise to see that Tim Cahill hasn’t made the Everton lineup for the Fulham game today. The midfielder is currently nursing hip and back injuries and Moyes is playing it cagey as to whether he’ll regain fitness prior to Everton’s trip to Anfield, with another International commitment for the Australian side looming.

Cahill has been named in the squad for Australia’s next World Cup Qualfier in China on March 26, a game which falls right in between Everton’s Premiership fixtures with West Ham and Liverpool. The latter, following on the Sunday, four days after the game but perhaps less that 48 hours after Cahill returns to the UK, is the major concern for Moyes.

He seems adamant that the travelling involved in attending these games is having a detrimental affect on Cahill.

“I think it takes its toll travelling and I think it is part of the reason for the injuries he is picking up,” remarked Moyes. “You are asking him to travel halfway round the world for games, I don’t think it helps - but I can’t do anything about it.”

Fantasy owners of Cahill, or those looking to bring the midfielder in for Everton’s run-in, need to be aware of the threat this poses. My bet is that Moyes will look to withdraw Cahill from the Aussie squad with his injuries, rest him versus West Ham and have him fresh for the trip to Anfield.
