Gerrard Op Puts Him Out For A Fortnight
Liverpool have revealed that Steven Gerrard requires immediate surgery on a groin injury and will be absent for just over fortnight.
Speaking after Wednesday nights Champions League Qualifier, Rafa stated that Gerrard will undergo surgery on Thursday having played through with the injury for 120 minutes against Liege. Liverpool hope that he will recover quickly from the operation and will be out for just 10-15 days.
That rules Gerrard out of the weekend clash with Villa and makes him a doubt for the home game with Man United on September 13 - although clearly, Liverpool have timed the surgery to have him available for this match.

I thought this was a joke when I saw the first post. Then saw it was real, and now see this. Ugh. On the “plus” side from a fantasy perspective, maybe this offers some explanation for the first couple of performances that did not seem up to the level expected of him. If this is the same groin injury going back to the pre-season, he’s obviously been pushing through some pain for several weeks. Unfortunate I suppose to lose out on a game against Villa’s D given their recent form, but here’s to the good timing of an international break and to a speedy recovery….

This will prove very interesting.

Mark, i think the surgery has also been well timed to coincide with the return of Lucas and Mascherano from the Olympics. Now LIV have some midfield cover - still no creativity though, they were bloody awful against Liege…

Gerrard for Deco then? Or if you already have Deco, Gerrard for Lampard/Fabregas? Who is likely to score more points this weekend though, Fabregas against Newcastle or either one of Lampard or Deco against Tottenham?
