After nine testing rounds, the winner of the inaugural Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, has been decided. Congratulations to donnellyc who, in beating Breakballartist in the final 67-48, takes home the grand prize of £200, as well as another free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

The stroke of genius from donnellyc was using the off-week to reshape his squad, taking a 12 point hit before gameweek 14. This strategy did drop him about 4,500 places to outside the top 8,000, but it certainly looks to have, quite literally, paid off. Maybe on reflection it wasn’t a stroke of genius, but a sensible thing to do, given that he was simply increasing the odds of winning the £100 up for grabs. The transfers included a clean sheet from Evra, goals from Defoe and Agbonlahor, and one of each from Richard Dunne, which helped him onto his winning final score of 67.

Breakballartist, on the other hand, had his worst week all season, finishing outside the top 1 million for the first time this year. To make matters worse, his five top scoring players this week all had a place in donnellyc’s team anyhow. All is not lost however, as the prize for being our runner-up is a cool £100.

Donnellyc’s path to victory started with a first round win over garethpardoe, before toppling Huddy,Matt16Matt and Four Stars. He also knocked out Chucky77, deppy35, Pure Olivia and Barkerov, before conquering Breakballartist in the final. The full results from all previous rounds are available to view here.

Elsewhere, in our 3rd placed play-off, Barkerov saw off Poshleftme 55-49. Poshleftme had three big fat zeros in his team from Ivanovic, Bikey and Lampard. Had Frank put the penalty away (as he usually does) then that would have been enough to take 3rd place. It was an all or nothing game, with the winner Barkerov getting his hands on a £50 prize, and the loser going away with nothing. Of the four semi-finalists, Poshleftme was the only participant ineligible to claim a prize anyway, so it was perhaps meant to be.

I’m sure you will all join me in congratulating donnellyc on his famous victory. He will be the first name on our hall of fame page (when we get round to creating it).  Thanks to everyone who participated and made the FFS Cup enjoyable, despite my second round exit. I’d also like to thank SUPERIOR BEING for being a massive help behind the scenes.

The chance to dethrone him will hopefully come soon into the new year.

“City can go on as much as they like. That’s what you would expect, but the history of our club stands us aside. We don’t need to worry about that. I think we have a rich history, better than anyone, and it’ll take them a century to get to our level of history.”
