New Poll – Will Portsmouth Be Spared A Rooney Roasting?

by Mark on February 5

Let’s face it, it’s the question on most Fantasy Manager’s minds going into the weekend, whether you happen to own Wayne Rooney or not.

Alex Ferguson has previously suggested that Rooney can’t play every match and with Villa on Wednesday and the Champions League trip to Milan less than a week later, the home game with Portsmouth looks an ideal opportunity to hand him a rest. Berbatov and Owen need pitch time and the pair should be more than enough to see off Portsmouth. Then again, Rooney is in the form of his life. He’s on fire and could dispose of Portsmouth in half-an-hour.

It’s a tough call. While every Rooney owner will be starting him; will they be handing him the armband? The Fantasy Premier League captains poll says yes but we need more detail. A new poll has been launched in your middle column to collect your views on just how much time Rooney will be given to get his teeth stuck into Ben Haim and his pals.

Get voting.

bet365 odds on player to score at anytime:

1.53 Rooney
1.90 Tevez
2.10 Drogba
2.10 Anelka
2.10 Bent
2.25 Defoe
2.25 Adebayor
2.25 Jerome
2.40 Kuyt
2.75 Lampard
2.75 Gerrard
2.75 Rodallega
2.87 Nani
3.75 Fabregas

Jamsiep February 5 at 6:47 pm

Jerome at 2.25 HAHAHA!

Have they ever seen him play football?!

greghammer95 February 5 at 6:59 pm

Nani at 2.87 I might “advise” my dad to do “his” weekly five pound bet on that one.

chris81 February 5 at 7:07 pm

Feel better about putting Nani in and benching Valencia after seeing these odds

FPL_crazy February 5 at 6:45 pm

N’zogbia vs Collison.

Who to bench?

MerryMiller February 5 at 6:45 pm

”He also revealed that Rafael, who had picked a knock in the game against Arsenal last weekend, has been sitting out training and is doubtful for this weekend’s game. His possible absence could move Wes Brown at right-back if Vidic starts alongside Evans at centre-back.”

From the team news section

MerryMiller February 5 at 6:46 pm

Oops, that was supposed to be a reply.

gribude February 5 at 6:46 pm

where r hundreds and hundreds experts whose said “we’ll see in friday will rooney play or not”???
I still waiting for answer!!!

Jamsiep February 5 at 6:47 pm

Read through the threads. He is definately not playing.

Andy February 5 at 6:48 pm

Okay, ignore this guy – we basically just don’t know. Plain as.

Jamsiep February 5 at 6:49 pm

He is a serial prankster.

Anyway gribude deserved it for the question.

MerryMiller February 5 at 6:50 pm

I dropped Roone before Man U missed the gameweek, with the idea that his fixtures (blank/ars/POR/avl/eve/blank) would mean his output would dry. Then he went and banged one in v Arsenal, and now Man U have a double coming up. I really can’t decide whether to get him (I’ve got Anelka).

I knew Rooney was going up and Anelka down last night, but couldn’t bring myself to do it.

My gut is telling me not to bring him in.

billyboychrisd February 5 at 7:09 pm

very similar situation, im swapping anelka for tevez, if that helps?

I think Rooney could easily get 3,4 tomorrow, my gut, dont shout me down :)

billyboychrisd February 5 at 7:13 pm

3,4 points that is

rickatatastan February 5 at 6:48 pm

What’s the chance of a Fulham cleanie this weekend? They are away at Bolton.

TorresMagic February 5 at 7:00 pm

Fulham are 3.85 for a CS this weekend

denial February 5 at 6:49 pm

Oh bugger. Logic and reason obviously deserted me last night and I decided to get Drogs in for Zamora (good) and Evans in for Ivanovic (um…not so good). I’ll get rid of Evans for Evra soon, but will Evans play this weekend? Someone put my poor mind at rest.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 6:50 pm

Yes he will, don’t worry at all.

denial February 5 at 6:51 pm

Aww…thanks Alan. I can go on the piss tonight with a spring in my step.

rickatatastan February 5 at 6:52 pm

I think Man U central defender policy goes like this:

1st & 2nd with no preference: Vidic & Rio
3rd: Evans

With Rio banned, it seems likely Evans will play, to me.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 6:53 pm

SAF even hinted that Evans could have moved up the pecking order earlier in the season. Before his wobble in form mind.

denial February 5 at 6:54 pm

I never usually like getting a player who has a doubt over them playing-wise, but y’know, it happened. The only outside chance is Brown playing CB, but it seems unlikely.

rickatatastan February 5 at 6:56 pm

I believe that Brown has been out of favour since his massive ego trip a while back.

JoeWasEre February 5 at 10:18 pm

What do you mean?

jimnastics February 5 at 6:49 pm

I sold Lamps for Lee earlier in the week, and I don’t have Rooney. and I seriously don’t want to talk about it. I want to forget I ever did it.

Want I do want to know is, is it worth selling Anelka for Rooney for a 4ph?

SuperDorrans February 5 at 6:52 pm

Yes.

JUDGYJAY February 5 at 6:56 pm

Risky – Rooney may not play any/all 90mins

Alan Partridge February 5 at 6:49 pm
denial February 5 at 6:56 pm

He’ll go back eventually. I just want him to go on a mad run of points after this GW first. Ramsey might just be good enough to step into old Cesc’s boots in the near future anyway.

dogtanion February 5 at 6:56 pm

as an arsenal fan, i wouldnt blame cesc for leaving.i saw the 5-4 game against spurs from 2004 on sky sports classics today. cesc played with pires, henry, vieira, ashley cole, freddie and co. tearing teams to shreds.now we have the likes of almunia and denilson, players who wouldnt look out of place in league 2.

Jamsiep February 5 at 7:02 pm

Here here.

Denilson is filth, utter filth.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:05 pm

Wenger has a lot to answer for. It’s not like he hasn’t had the funds to buy more decent players of arshavins quality.

dogtanion February 5 at 7:16 pm

yeah. he really really does. i actually think hes become deluded at this stage.hes so intent on proving people wrong about the “kids” that hes thrown logic out the window. how does one expect to win a league without a striker and goalkeeper and denilson.i see vitor mannone got a long term contract recently too.i give up.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:18 pm

I don’t think Denilson is thaaaaaat awful, certainly not Djemba Djemba awful, but everything else is spot on.

dogtanion February 5 at 7:22 pm

he really is man.no pace, cant tackle, cant pass, doesnt track back.last weekend was another painful example that hes just not good enough for a team with title aspirations. dont be fooled by the odd deflected goal…an irish football pundit(eamon dunphy…check him out!).. once called lucas the “worst brazilian ever”. i think denilson is running him close at this stage.

horlicks February 5 at 6:54 pm

Shall I keep Modric or Lampard?

rickatatastan February 5 at 6:56 pm

Yes.

horlicks February 5 at 6:58 pm

good one

FPL_crazy February 5 at 6:57 pm

both.

Bigmanupfront February 5 at 7:19 pm

Why drop either of them? Your team looks fine to me

tboggie February 5 at 6:54 pm

Will Bentley be playing this weekend since he’s on form

SuperDunny February 5 at 6:55 pm

definitely

JUDGYJAY February 5 at 6:57 pm

Kranjcar is available again, but Bentley was man of the match and should continue.

Da Diggy Diggy Doc February 5 at 6:56 pm

All set to bring in tevez tonight, figure city will get a few vs hull followed by hull- so makes sense…

… But then thought ‘ what about adebayor?’. Lots of bonus pts at start of season, amongst them again last gw- what are ppls thoughts?

Also with tevez and adebayor on the pitch who’s on pens? Might sway me!

Da Diggy Diggy Doc February 5 at 6:57 pm

Edit: ‘followed by double gw’

you can only dream of back to back games vs hull!

JUDGYJAY February 5 at 6:58 pm

I have same dilemma, going with Tevez as he’s slightly cheaper and I think he may take pens?

Da Diggy Diggy Doc February 5 at 7:07 pm

Another factor with adebayor is he has more potential to rise in price- less players own him.

I’m pretty sure tevezs form coincided with him playing lone striker with adebayor away- surely this will dent his output? Anyone doubt that the points per game excluding games during acon favors adebayor?

FPL_crazy February 5 at 6:58 pm

We have to see who will take the pens. My guess is Tevez.

FPL_crazy February 5 at 6:57 pm

Should I bench Collison or N’zogbia this weekend?

gaspar February 5 at 6:59 pm

bench Collison

JUDGYJAY February 5 at 6:59 pm

Collison

jhill89 February 5 at 6:58 pm

Hart (Sorenson)
Evra Dann Dunne Shawcross Vermaelen
Milner Fabregas (Boateng Reid Bowyer)
Rooney Tevez(c) Anelka

I have 0.3 in the bank and am looking to upgrade Anelka to Drogba next week but I need to get 0.8 from somewhere. Who should I downgrade this week to make room for Drogba next week?

Snooze February 5 at 7:02 pm

Get rid of Milner, he’s had his day imo

Mr.Cheese February 5 at 7:03 pm

yeah milner, plus will be missing gameweeks

jhill89 February 5 at 7:04 pm

Who should I swap him for then?

Snooze February 5 at 7:08 pm

Nani?

Bigmanupfront February 5 at 7:20 pm

I’d swap Milner for Lee or N Zogbia

SuperYid February 5 at 7:00 pm

Just bought Wilshere from Bolton. A bargain at 4.3. Reckon he’ll play quite a bit as Bolton’s manager has been chasing him for a while. Does anyone know if he will be playing this weekend? Hoping he’ll get a sting and that he is ready to play Bolton’s upcoming DGW.

billyboychrisd February 5 at 7:22 pm

hmm, not sure about that, coyle seems set on his 4 in midfield, more a cameo role for now i foresee, but you might be right, he might get a whole game during the drg

billyboychrisd February 5 at 7:23 pm

DGW*

tboggie February 5 at 7:01 pm

Lampard or Bentley???

Mr.Cheese February 5 at 7:04 pm

dont really like either to be honest…

trickyharris February 5 at 7:01 pm

really not confident with my team;
hart; ivan, dann, hughes; milner, n’zog, duff, valencia; tevez, drogba ,rooney
soren;warnock, richards, hudd

Seems hudd is my only sub. Ccan you see where a 4 point hit would be worthwhile? Warnock>cahill/shawx/evans/collins?

JUDGYJAY February 5 at 7:02 pm

Your link doesn’t work on my laptop so I can’t see prices – I’d probably downgrade Vermaelen.

horlicks February 5 at 7:04 pm

Why is Hucks in your image? Im a Norwich lad.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:06 pm

ITFC!!

horlicks February 5 at 7:06 pm

Partridge and Ipswich! U sicko!

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:09 pm

Heh, I grew up in suffolk what can i say :)

Mr.Cheese February 5 at 7:04 pm

song or diaby in a couple of weeks?

Snooze February 5 at 7:04 pm

What do your guys think of my line up for this weekend? Have i got my subs right? Cheers

Hart (Sorensen)
Evra, Johnson R, Cole A (Dawson, Cahill)
Fabs, Nzogbia, Modric, Nani (Duff)
Tevez, Bent, Rooney

Voronin is gone.... February 5 at 7:06 pm

Yep.

halvey February 5 at 7:06 pm

2 from the following ivanovic, ollson, hunt, ballack, milner, pieenar

horlicks February 5 at 7:09 pm

pienaar. and erm…..Ivanovic…(CHE 2-0 ARS)

None of the rest…

Bigmanupfront February 5 at 7:23 pm

Nice problem to have (as they say). I’d probably go for Ivanovic and Pienaar too, close call tho

Mr.Cheese February 5 at 7:07 pm

captain rooney with emergency form (tevez)?

halvey February 5 at 7:09 pm

yup same as meself

horlicks February 5 at 7:08 pm

Berbatov! I’m gonna put in Berbatov!

SuperDorrans February 5 at 7:11 pm

Your mad. :)

horlicks February 5 at 7:13 pm

Think about it

He scores goals. He’s good. rooney is the danger man, Portsmouth will try and contain him….He might not play, he might not stay on…

He might score 5!? berba could get me cheeky points…

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:16 pm

I have a sneaky feeling he might start Diouf with Rooney. Depends if Berba’s knee is troubling him or not, but they do want to give captain header (diouf) some playing time with a strike partner and this easyish game might be just the time.

JoeWasEre February 6 at 2:20 am

Some of his headed goals on YouTube are great!

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:13 pm

Risky McRiskRisk.

SuperDorrans February 5 at 7:15 pm

Could do, but can’t rely on him with Uniteds tough fixtures, get in Drogba instead.

Merlinho February 5 at 7:08 pm

Right guys, help needed.

I need to play two from Murphy, Collison, Cohen.

I have Cohen (against dodgy Fulham at home) and Murphy in at the moment, but tempted to change Murphy to Collison. Thoughts?

halvey February 5 at 7:09 pm

are ppl playing fabregas?????????

Snooze February 5 at 7:10 pm

Stupid not too

chris81 February 5 at 7:12 pm

Lots of nervous people sweating on Rooney in here but captain’s poll showing a lot of confidence in him.

Rooney captain is the easy decision.

I’m sweating on Nani or Valencia – spent 4 points to bring in Nani and benched Valencia.

Can anyone see both of them playing or have I made the right decision?

horlicks February 5 at 7:13 pm

why do you have both in your squad…thats just silly…

chris81 February 5 at 7:16 pm

Man U are the only side I can see scoring big – didn’t want to sub out Valencia until I knew better and definitely wanted to sub out Kranjcar since he can’t even get a game in front of Bentley.

Had to make transfer early so I could afford to bring Rooney in for Anelka

Shahriyar February 5 at 7:14 pm

how come in the season ticker it shows that wolves play che n united on gw 27 when in united column it shows united r playin eve n whm?

halvey February 5 at 7:15 pm

ballack or hunt is the question

MerryMiller February 5 at 7:15 pm

Shall I get shut of Scharner? He has been nothing but a disappointment, and it appears his days in the starting line up are numbered.

chris81 February 5 at 7:21 pm

I’ve had Scharner a couple of times this season and he’s been disappointing – the only reason you want him is cos he’s playing an advanced role but if you’ve ever seen him in front of goal you’ll know the chances of a goal are pretty slim

MerryMiller February 5 at 7:24 pm

I’ll probably do Scharner for Toure.

Unless anyone can suggest a better bet from the Man City back four, who will definitely start the next two gameweeks?

chris81 February 5 at 7:30 pm

Garrido looks a pretty safe bet at the moment

halvey February 5 at 7:18 pm

do i boda taking a four pint hit to get rid of ballack?

Bigmanupfront February 5 at 7:27 pm

Boda? Are you serious? How Vicky Pollard is that? Seriously though, I wouldn’t boda taking a points hit, your subs look pretty decent, so anyone you bring in is unlikely to score you 4 points more than your subs would.

Alan Partridge February 5 at 7:37 pm

Yoof speek innit 1 time blud yoo get me.

MerryMiller February 5 at 7:27 pm

Blimey, I’ve just realised, I’m going to have an awful week!! Tevez & Jerome seem like my best bet of any decent points. Haven’t made transfers yet, but it’s not looking good.

chris81 February 5 at 7:33 pm

Investing in Manu this week could help you no end then

jhill89 February 5 at 7:36 pm

Rate please:

Hart (Sorenson)
Evra Dann Dunne Shawcross Vermaelen
Nani Fabregas (Boateng Reid Bowyer)
Rooney Tevez(c) Anelka

snowman February 5 at 7:55 pm

guys i need a replacement for gera with 1.6m in the bank

any ideas? i already have lee was thinking of wilshere

Co.Ro February 5 at 10:49 pm

Right guys i really need alot of opinions on this pleaseeee……

atm ive got traore (out), richards(injured) and gera (out) in my team who wont play…..do i get rid of richards (might not be fit for dgw) for raphael/evans this week then next week bring in rodallega for anelka and bridge for traore…this is so i can bring in the drog the week after that

or

Do i get caldwell in for traore this week and then next week take gera out for wilshere and bring in rodallega for anelka…again so i can get the Drog in the week after.

Soggysock February 5 at 10:53 pm

Right guys, what do you think of my team? I’ve got two free transfers this week and I’ve subbed out Zamora > Tevez and Nani > Valencia, I’ve yet to confirm the changes and was thinking of sacrificing four points for a different defender, maybe bring in Shawcross?

Hart (Sorenson)
Vermaelen Evra Corluka Dunne (Bikey)
Milner Nani Arshavin Barry (Gardner)
Rooney(C) Defoe Tevez

Let me know what you think

Cheers
