Wanderers Facing Further Defensive Woes

by Mark on February 7

Bolton Wanderers are approaching the double fixtures in gameweek 26 with a potential injury crisis at the back.

Owen Coyle’s side were without the ever-present defender Gary Cahill for the 0-0 draw with Fulham, the only real fantasy target within their back four. Cahill’s absence was down to a shoulder injury reportedly suffered in training on Friday. Details on the injury are scarce, so right now we can only presume that he will remain a doubt for the trip to Manchester City on Tuesday and possibly the visit to Wigan the following Wednesday…

Cahill’s replacement, Andy O’Brien came in alongside Zat Knight but fell victim to an injury and was duly replaced on 63 minutes by Chris Basham. Again, details on this knock are hard to come by but he too will be a doubt going into Tuesday’s game.

Bolton also named Greitar Steinsson on the teamsheet prior to the kick-off yesterday, but he fell ill before the match and was duly replaced by Paul Robinson, which saw Ricketts revert to right-back.

The Bolton boss faces an anxious wait to assess the scale of these injuries and we’d expect to hear more on the situation on Monday.

For Fantasy Managers double gameweek investment in Bolton’s defensive options looks out of the question right now, despite Coyle steering them to their first two clean sheets of the season. In fact, Bolton’s defensive crisis will if anything, add further interest to Manchester City’s attacking options for their two fixtures in gameweek 26. While Mancini’s side struggled to make an impression on the Hull defence in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at the KC, City are often a different proposition at Eastlands. Certainly owners of Carlos Tevez will be hoping that the Argentine can rediscover his scoring form and exploit any gaps in the troubled Bolton defence.

Super-Hans February 7 at 12:48 pm

hi guys.

take a look at my team and help me find out who to captain, please. Would any of the four dgw-players be an alternative?

cheers

Akers February 7 at 12:52 pm

Please check the FAQ section to link your name to your team.

Super-Hans February 7 at 1:00 pm

cheers!
does it work now?

cheggars123 February 7 at 12:48 pm

This is my team -

Sorenson, Hart
Hughes, Ivanovic, Foley, Ridgewell, Tomkins
Lampard, Fab, Modric, Taylor, Gera
Rooney, Tevez, Bent

So I’m struggling a bit recently…

My plan is essentially to ditch Frank Lampard and then strengthen other areas of my team. For this weekend, I was going to do -

Lampard, Gera OUT. N’Zog, Etherington IN

Then the week after Tevez, Ivanovic OUT, Evra, Drogba IN.

Thoughts? it would be an 8 point hit (over 2 weeks) but would give me a more solid team….

Wunderkind February 7 at 12:54 pm

looks good, but wait till tonight. depends on the performance of lamps

breakballartist February 7 at 12:54 pm

I like your Lamps out plan; leaves a nice chunk to splash on cheaper options with strong fixtures. In the same boat meself. Missed Lamps > N’Zog last night (.1m rise) so i’ll sit tight now. News on Gera’s injury would be a help.

cheggars123 February 7 at 12:57 pm

Cheers lads.
I f*cked my team up bringing in Lampard and it has annoyed me. I thought he would do a lot more in the double week…
N’Zog & Etherington are solid shouts for the double, particularly Etherington who has two doubles in the next few weeks.
Then at the least the spare cash can go on two players who will be in my team until the end of the season (barring injuries), Drogba & Evra.

dbronaldo February 7 at 1:18 pm

id keep lampard, he is expensive but very consistent, if u leave him in u know he will get u nice points, otherwise u will be chopping and chasing try to get players in who play well once every so often.
id look modric . n zogbia and bent to rodallega

ggm1982 February 7 at 12:53 pm

How bad is that celtic strip ha ha. C’mon Dunfermline

Henry Hill February 7 at 12:58 pm

FFS Tony Mowbray is doing a terrible job,

rambo123mop February 7 at 12:48 pm

does any1 no y rooney got an assist and toure didnt in pretty much exactly the same situation

Trilogist February 7 at 12:52 pm

coz the FPL Judge’s love Rooney…

MFaulkner February 7 at 1:01 pm

wasn’t really the same situation though, was it?

Wunderkind February 7 at 12:50 pm

Does anyone know how long gera will be out?

have to decide today if I bring etherington in for hunt or gera. the first would leave me with more money in the bank and ful have the better fixtures to come

breakballartist February 7 at 12:55 pm

Some info would be good alright; i’d hold onto him if he’s not too badly hurt.

Trilogist February 7 at 12:50 pm

hear about the blackburn fan killed at the stoke game….

harsh stuff!

Henry Hill February 7 at 12:55 pm

Was it the Blackburn fans fighting amongst themselves? Very sad regardless

Trilogist February 7 at 12:59 pm

Fella that has been arrested for it was from Preston.

SuperDunny February 7 at 1:01 pm

i’m not sure of the details either, i think some one was throwing a bin about or something like that. Unbelievable really, not coming home from a football match

rambo123mop February 7 at 12:53 pm

fulham at home to burnley but would it be worth swaping zamora for either k.davies or rodellga

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:10 pm

im keepng faith with zamora as nice fixtures

zephi February 7 at 12:54 pm

Who is best to play between Kuyt and Modric?

On one hand Kuyt on form and Modric is not but then Tottenham have an easier game.

MFaulkner February 7 at 12:56 pm

Modric

SuperDunny February 7 at 1:02 pm

Can’t you get them both playing? Tough to leave out Deadly Dirk right now!

Morrissey1986 February 7 at 1:05 pm

Dirk has hit form just as I got him in. Well pleased just a shame his not hit the bonus points.

zephi February 7 at 1:05 pm

Yes, I have just decide that I will play both.

However this results in my bench being:

Bent, Evra, Ivanovic.

Ed.. February 7 at 12:55 pm

What do ye all think of Irelands group???

Henry Hill February 7 at 12:57 pm

I think its a good opportunity for us to qualify, some long away trips ahead though.

Shipstontrev February 7 at 1:16 pm

Shame you didn’t get France though – revenge would be sweet

Cesc Machine February 7 at 1:18 pm

for once it’s actually an “easy” group for Ireland

Henry Hill February 7 at 1:25 pm

Ya was really hoping we’d get France. I see England got a hard draw again :-P

zephi February 7 at 1:00 pm

Ok who to play between Modric and Bent?

breakballartist February 7 at 1:07 pm

You’d have to play Bent, no? Its a feast or famine with the Dazzler; 2pts or 10!! Had him since v early on, so i cant really sell him. Can be v frustrating tho…

Shipstontrev February 7 at 1:12 pm

I’d go with Bent as well, not least because he would score a hat trick to spite you if you sold him! bba we’ve got quite similar teams, do you have any plans for the dgw?

breakballartist February 7 at 1:28 pm

Lamps Eagles > N’Zog Etherington. Bit obvious maybe, but have a free transfer, so its could be tasty. Only got Lamps back in for the DGW, so no loss.

zephi February 7 at 1:13 pm

It just seems a shame to bench Modric when playing Wolves (easy game or maybe not as away?).

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:09 pm

sorenson (gomes)
evans, young, hughes (ivanovich, wilkinson)
lampard, petrov, tuncay, taylor (valencia)
rooney, tevez, zamora

please help with changes and possible transfers

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:15 pm

Erm, Valencia out for N’Zogbia.

Tatty Bojangles February 7 at 1:17 pm

Zamora needs to goooooooooooooooo

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:19 pm

keeping valencia for dgw, i was thinking zamora/rodallega OR nzogbia/petrov or nzogbia/tuncay?

Nikola February 7 at 1:19 pm

It looks like N’Zogbia’s price rise is inevitable today. :)

How about Rodalega? Is he a good option for the next GW?

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:22 pm

N’Zog or Roddy are both good options, Wigan have 3 home games in a row.

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:23 pm

zamora and nzogbia OR rodallega and petrov?

MFaulkner February 7 at 1:23 pm

Charlie rose last night.

Rodallega’s a good option, but I don’t know who you’d remove from your striker force to get him. Selling Milner/Valenica/Malouda for N’Zogbia would be a better move for you.

breakballartist February 7 at 1:30 pm

I hear ya; Wouldn’t mind gettin Rodders in, but front 3 are pretty set for the mo.

Nikola February 7 at 1:37 pm

I will get rid of Drogba just for the next GW for Rodallega.

zephi February 7 at 1:11 pm

Is it best to play Bent or Modric?

Both have easy game Bent against Portsmouth and Modric against Wolves.

Davy February 7 at 1:12 pm

Did anyone just see that solid as a rock piece on SS1 about Birmingham’s defence.

Guarenteed to conceed now…

MFaulkner February 7 at 1:20 pm

lol yeah, really is tempting fate.

zephi February 7 at 1:21 pm

Ahhhhh.

I am going to have to put Modric on the bench and Tottenham are playing Wolves away!

To play him I would have to bench Kuyt or Bent.

Boohoooo

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:22 pm

I’ve got him benched as last sub, he can’t do anything at home so he isn’t going to do anything away, even against Wolves. Definitely going out of my team in the next couple of weeks.

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:21 pm

who should i ditch tuncay or petrov!???!

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:22 pm

im thinking petrov but will i regret the dgw haul?

MFaulkner February 7 at 1:23 pm

you’ll see the line ups before the deadline on Tuesday. Sell whoever doesn’t start.

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:24 pm

I have Tuncay, gutted that I chose him over Etherington but ah well, may aswel keep them both for double anyway.

manu4life99 February 7 at 1:26 pm

thanks mfaulkner, failing this i could swap zamora for rodallega? would you do this or wait for nzogbia swap

SuperDunny February 7 at 1:28 pm

I’ll prob end up doing the same, Zamora -> Rodallega

nomar February 7 at 1:23 pm

Anyone thinking of taking a punt on Viera for the DGW?

He’s only £5M and could do something against Bolton, if he plays?

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:24 pm

He could so something = Get a yellow card.

zephi February 7 at 1:24 pm

TEVEZ OUT FOR ADEBAYOR?

I have just noticed that Tevez has not scored in three games!!!

SuperDunny February 7 at 1:26 pm

It is becoming a bit of an issue but i bought him with the DGW in mind so i’ll give him till then at least before i get rid

SuperDorrans February 7 at 1:27 pm

I’m going to keep him until after the double, then he’s out for Drogba!

Noodles February 7 at 1:27 pm

Very tempted esp since the rest of my team is well set up.

Noodles February 7 at 1:27 pm

Hi All

Got quite a strong team for next week

Soren
Shawcross, Ridgewell, Evra
Lampard, Fabs, Lee, Nzogbia
Bent, Tevez, Rooney

Was thinking of maybe getting Etherington (but who to drop?) or Tevez to Adebayor (but is this a wasted transfer!?)
