Wanderers Facing Further Defensive Woes

Bolton Wanderers are approaching the double fixtures in gameweek 26 with a potential injury crisis at the back.

Owen Coyle’s side were without the ever-present defender Gary Cahill for the 0-0 draw with Fulham, the only real fantasy target within their back four. Cahill’s absence was down to a shoulder injury reportedly suffered in training on Friday. Details on the injury are scarce, so right now we can only presume that he will remain a doubt for the trip to Manchester City on Tuesday and possibly the visit to Wigan the following Wednesday…

Cahill’s replacement, Andy O’Brien came in alongside Zat Knight but fell victim to an injury and was duly replaced on 63 minutes by Chris Basham. Again, details on this knock are hard to come by but he too will be a doubt going into Tuesday’s game.

Bolton also named Greitar Steinsson on the teamsheet prior to the kick-off yesterday, but he fell ill before the match and was duly replaced by Paul Robinson, which saw Ricketts revert to right-back.

The Bolton boss faces an anxious wait to assess the scale of these injuries and we’d expect to hear more on the situation on Monday.

For Fantasy Managers double gameweek investment in Bolton’s defensive options looks out of the question right now, despite Coyle steering them to their first two clean sheets of the season. In fact, Bolton’s defensive crisis will if anything, add further interest to Manchester City’s attacking options for their two fixtures in gameweek 26. While Mancini’s side struggled to make an impression on the Hull defence in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at the KC, City are often a different proposition at Eastlands. Certainly owners of Carlos Tevez will be hoping that the Argentine can rediscover his scoring form and exploit any gaps in the troubled Bolton defence.

  1. Fabio Capello just got a bit shirty on SSN…

  2. areynath says:

Guys, please help. See my team link, I just upgraded anelka to drogba. I am thinking of downgrading lamps to improve my defence. Thoughts?

  3. areynath says:

What would you do? I was going to do a 5 2 3 formation

    • kylemacca01 says:

Get some quality in midfield. You have 3 very poor midfielders and need to upgrade at least one of them, probably jarvis to the likes of modric or arteta (in a few weeks)

      • Tatty Bojangles says:

Agreed. Downgrade Lampard and probably get rid of Gera too since he is now injured.

Plenty of decent midfielders out there at the moment

  4. Supersonic says:

have to laugh at Robbie Keane on the bench for Celtic today.

    what a fall from grace.

  5. Cornelius says:

So Poland and Ukraine are co-hosting but neither have qualified. Is this right?

  6. Raccoon says:

“England manager Fabio Capello said his team had been drawn in one of the two toughest groups, despite avoiding tricky second seeds like Turkey, Sweden and Serbia.”

    Lol diplomacy.

Anyone else frustated by Man City you can’t rely on any of their midfielders for the double or their defence.

    :(

  9. zephi says:

Who is best to play between Bent and Etherington?

    • Trilogist says:

      DGW Etherington

bent is a cracking striker with a shit team with no confidence behind him.

  14. Super-Hans says:

    hi guys.

take a look at my team and help me find out who to captain, please. Would any of the four dgw-players be an alternative?

    cheers

  15. cheggars123 says:

    This is my team -

    Sorenson, Hart
    Hughes, Ivanovic, Foley, Ridgewell, Tomkins
    Lampard, Fab, Modric, Taylor, Gera
    Rooney, Tevez, Bent

    So I’m struggling a bit recently…

My plan is essentially to ditch Frank Lampard and then strengthen other areas of my team. For this weekend, I was going to do -

Lampard, Gera OUT. N’Zog, Etherington IN

Then the week after Tevez, Ivanovic OUT, Evra, Drogba IN.

Thoughts? it would be an 8 point hit (over 2 weeks) but would give me a more solid team….

    • Wunderkind says:

looks good, but wait till tonight. depends on the performance of lamps

    • I like your Lamps out plan; leaves a nice chunk to splash on cheaper options with strong fixtures. In the same boat meself. Missed Lamps > N’Zog last night (.1m rise) so i’ll sit tight now. News on Gera’s injury would be a help.

      • cheggars123 says:

        Cheers lads.
I f*cked my team up bringing in Lampard and it has annoyed me. I thought he would do a lot more in the double week…
N’Zog & Etherington are solid shouts for the double, particularly Etherington who has two doubles in the next few weeks.
Then at the least the spare cash can go on two players who will be in my team until the end of the season (barring injuries), Drogba & Evra.

    • dbronaldo says:

id keep lampard, he is expensive but very consistent, if u leave him in u know he will get u nice points, otherwise u will be chopping and chasing try to get players in who play well once every so often.
id look modric . n zogbia and bent to rodallega

  16. Morrissey1986 says:

    Live: Dunfermline 2 Celtic 1

  17. rambo123mop says:

does any1 no y rooney got an assist and toure didnt in pretty much exactly the same situation

  18. Wunderkind says:

Does anyone know how long gera will be out?

have to decide today if I bring etherington in for hunt or gera. the first would leave me with more money in the bank and ful have the better fixtures to come

  19. Trilogist says:

hear about the blackburn fan killed at the stoke game….

    harsh stuff!

    • Henry Hill says:

Was it the Blackburn fans fighting amongst themselves? Very sad regardless

      • Trilogist says:

Fella that has been arrested for it was from Preston.

      • SuperDunny says:

i’m not sure of the details either, i think some one was throwing a bin about or something like that. Unbelievable really, not coming home from a football match

  20. rambo123mop says:

fulham at home to burnley but would it be worth swaping zamora for either k.davies or rodellga

  21. zephi says:

Who is best to play between Kuyt and Modric?

On one hand Kuyt on form and Modric is not but then Tottenham have an easier game.

  22. Ed.. says:

What do ye all think of Irelands group???

  23. zephi says:

Ok who to play between Modric and Bent?

    • You’d have to play Bent, no? Its a feast or famine with the Dazzler; 2pts or 10!! Had him since v early on, so i cant really sell him. Can be v frustrating tho…

      • Shipstontrev says:

I’d go with Bent as well, not least because he would score a hat trick to spite you if you sold him! bba we’ve got quite similar teams, do you have any plans for the dgw?

        • Lamps Eagles > N’Zog Etherington. Bit obvious maybe, but have a free transfer, so its could be tasty. Only got Lamps back in for the DGW, so no loss.

      • zephi says:

It just seems a shame to bench Modric when playing Wolves (easy game or maybe not as away?).

  24. manu4life99 says:

    sorenson (gomes)
    evans, young, hughes (ivanovich, wilkinson)
    lampard, petrov, tuncay, taylor (valencia)
    rooney, tevez, zamora

please help with changes and possible transfers

  25. zephi says:

Is it best to play Bent or Modric?

Both have easy game Bent against Portsmouth and Modric against Wolves.

  26. Davy says:

Did anyone just see that solid as a rock piece on SS1 about Birmingham’s defence.

    Guarenteed to conceed now…

  27. zephi says:

    Ahhhhh.

I am going to have to put Modric on the bench and Tottenham are playing Wolves away!

To play him I would have to bench Kuyt or Bent.

    Boohoooo

    • SuperDorrans says:

I’ve got him benched as last sub, he can’t do anything at home so he isn’t going to do anything away, even against Wolves. Definitely going out of my team in the next couple of weeks.

  28. manu4life99 says:

who should i ditch tuncay or petrov!???!

    • manu4life99 says:

im thinking petrov but will i regret the dgw haul?

    • MFaulkner says:

you’ll see the line ups before the deadline on Tuesday. Sell whoever doesn’t start.

    • SuperDorrans says:

I have Tuncay, gutted that I chose him over Etherington but ah well, may aswel keep them both for double anyway.

      • manu4life99 says:

thanks mfaulkner, failing this i could swap zamora for rodallega? would you do this or wait for nzogbia swap

  29. nomar says:

Anyone thinking of taking a punt on Viera for the DGW?

He’s only £5M and could do something against Bolton, if he plays?

  30. zephi says:

    TEVEZ OUT FOR ADEBAYOR?

I have just noticed that Tevez has not scored in three games!!!
