Rooney And Valencia Deliver

Wayne Rooney justified his Fantasy Premier League armband with another brace in last night’s 3-0 win over West Ham.

After drawing two blanks at Villa and Everton, Rooney returned to scoring form to notch two headers, both from Valencia assists, to take his tally to 23 league goals this term. Rooney and Valencia also claimed FPL bonus points, while the many Evra owners got themselves a predictable clean sheet from the second United fixture of the gameweek. A very good night for investors in United players, although they will now be forced to bench or sell their contingent with a missing fixture with the Carling Cup Final coming next for Ferguson’s side…

Valencia’s assists took him on to nine for the season, having also provided the cross for United’s goal at Goodison at the weekend. The winger has proved a popular target for United’s double fixture gameweek but, despite his performances, there will be some slight doubts on the risk of rotation once Nani returns from his suspension. Nani’s form over a short period of matches from gameweeks 22-24 found Valencia benched, although following this spell, Ferguson named both wingers on his teamsheet with Nani deployed on the left-flank. Nani returns from his ban and is eligible for the trip to Wolves in gameweek 29.

For United last night’s win came at some cost with Brazilian midfielder Anderson suffering a nasty looking knee injury, while it was also revealed that Rio Ferdinand missed the match as his return from suspension due to further back problems suffered in training. Ferdinand is out of the Carling Cup Final and will be a doubt for United’s visit to Wolves. Anderson meanwhile could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. As reported in the Scout Tweets, a scan today will reveal the full extent of the injury.

Hi guys it’s decision time. I desperately want to win my mini-league. I am currently first but I am going to have two very tough game weeks ahead of me during which I will most certainly go down to third or second at best.

I am sure that the second and third in my mini league will be captaining Fabregas and Drogba. I currently don’t have Fabregas but I bought Drogba and Kuyt. Here comes the question. Should i play it safe and try to keep with other players by captaining Drogba or should i take the risk and captain Kuyt in the next GW?

  3. Roger says:

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and use my WC.

    Previous team:

    Sorensen, Cech
Bridge, Hughes, Evra, G Cahill, A Cole
Fabregas, M Taylor, Tuncay, Modric, J McCarthy
    Rooney, Adebayor, Jerome

    New team:

    Reina, Sorensen
Vermaelen, Evra, R Johnson, Mears, Dawson
    Fabregas, Arteta, O’Hara, Mascherano, N’Zogbia
    Drogba, Rooney, Fletcher

    • Borden says:

      are u being serious?

get in a villa and everton defender for verm and mears
get rid of nzog and masch for a.young/milner and pienaar
and get rid of fletcher for bentdner

      • Team d2b says:

Yeh Everton defender would be good. I assumed you had plans on brining in a Villa player after their probable 2 missing GW’s though.

    • Milan says:

No Fletcher, Masch for sure. Arteta is a risky bet, but can understand it. Though I’d rather get Milner in preparation for gw 30, depending on tonight FA Cup game.

      • Borden says:

yeh i got collins before his rise, im comfortable with him warming the bench for two weeks cos after that he’ll be starting every game for me

  4. teddy says:

    Bonjour Guys,

My name is Arsene and I need some help picking my team.

I see a lot of people suggesting Bendtner. I’ve had him in my team for a few weeks, but he hasn’t really done much.

I’m considering Arshavin, who is just back from injury, and although he hasn’t done much I keep picking him cause I’m convinced he’s going to score big sooner or later.

Or Walcott, who looks promising. He reminds me a bit of Henry. He hasn’t produced much either, but has been looking quite dangerous, in an innocent boyish sort of way. I’m thinking he’ll do well against weaker defences. He’s really quick.

Or Eduardo, also just back from injury. He’s got a really striker’s instinct, which I think is what Arsenal need right now.

Or Eboue, I know he gets a lot of stick, but he’s actually done really well for me when he I’ve had him in my team this season. He’s strong and seems to be a lot better in his decision making.

Or Rosicky, or Vela, they’re both quality players, quick feet, good vision and a great shot. I think they could easily score or assist against the Stoke defence.

And I’d like to fit Nasri in there somewhere too.

I’m spoilt for choice really. Please help! Merci beaucoup!

  5. Milky says:

Tweet saying “Glen Johnson is expected back in full training next week”.
So i guess whatever rotations his comeback would generate wouldnt happen till next week.

  6. Milan says:

Check the latest tweet from Rafa. Not so confident on getting Torres anymore.Maybe I’ll wait and get him after international break or just stick with Shrek.

    • dbronaldo says:

you still thinking of kuyt mate?

      • Milan says:

Yes, probably will get him. Waiting for Friday, nevermind the price rise, very risky week for early transfers.

        • dbronaldo says:

ya same and i may just sell lampard, i wil need to sell him in week 29 anyway and kuyt looks the best bet for a mid range option over 28 and 29,

          • Milan says:

My advise is drop Fulham defenders. Then you can keep Lamps on the bench for GW 29 and have him for the potential double.

            • dbronaldo says:

              well i have 2 options
if i keep lampard on bench il have to sell ivanovic and a fulham defender.
whether i keep or sell lampard i will sell my fulham defenders
i said i would keep lampard until cheaper options came about, i missed the last one (valencia)
if i sell him i can get the likes of baines, milner, kuyt in the next few weeks

  7. Team d2b says:

Good team. Few ideas I’ll through out there.

Mascherano, despite being a popular BP magnet, offers extremely little attacking wise, I would never bring in a defensive minded midfielder like Masch.

I’d also be tempted to take a punt on Jack Cork ahead of Mears. Classed as a defender playing in midfield, was probably Burnley’s best player against Villa, I can see him playing regularly.

  8. d1g2w3 says:

right i want all the serious bendtner/no bendtner people, im an arsenal fan and im scared bendtner will get dropped,

please can you tell me why he wont be dropped, if he plays the majority of the games then ill transfer him in, if not then ill go for saha

i was against the bendtner thing because i didnt think he’d get game time over the next 6 weeks

    • Milan says:

He will get some game time, but I think that if you want Arsenal best three players for the run-in there are far better options: Fabs, Shava, Diaby, Gallas, Vermaelen, Song, even Nasri or Almunia. Bendtner is at the bottom of my wish list at the moment. Bent, Saha, C.Cole, K.Jones are much better prospects in similar price range, and you keep your Arsenal spot open for someone else.

    • Borden says:

      he will not be dropped because;

he gives us much needed height upfront
he gives much needed strength upfront
he is a good distributer of the ball
he is good at holding the ball up
      wenger rates him
his goal ratio/games ratio at international level is v good
he has an excellent record against portugal (can score against quality defences)
we did start the season with him out on the right, even when rvp was starting. wenger chose to put him up against the usually shorter fullbacks and allow his strength and height to be used to an even greater advantage

all in all he is a future 20+ goals a season striker in my opinion, he’s very young, and for his age he’s a very, very good player

and he’s a bargain fpl wise

if i was playing with fabregas behind me, i’d get 10 goals a season

    • Big Dunc says:

Bendtner may be a bit rubbish but when he plays everyone around him seems ot play better eg Arshavin. Its already been proven that putting midgets up front eg Eduardo, Vela doesnt work….. they need a big target man to allow the likes of Fabs, Arshavin to run riot. With Arsenals fixtures he is bound to get a few assists and tap ins. Personally i think saha is a better player and scores over 50% of Evertons goals

    • teddy says:

He’s too big a risk because:

Arshavin and Eduardo are back already or will be soon.
There are plenty of other options there too.
      He’s not that great.
Even if he does play and does play well, it could easily be holding the ball up and laying it off rather than towering headers, jinking runs and powering shots.

      • SuperDunny says:

1 game 1 goal. People we saying exactly the same thing all last week and even if he scores on Saturday i still expect people to carry on saying it

      • Borden says:

so as a fellow gooner, u dont rate him then?

        arsene knows, you get me?

        • d1g2w3 says:

as a gooner i would be putting him in…but as a realist i want other peoples opinion as i heard a little fact that wenger has changed his team in the hundreds amounts of times consecutively

        • teddy says:

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean FPL points. Bendtner’s no fool, and if he gets the minutes will get the goals, but there’s a hell of a lot of competition from out other excellent attacking players.

    Hi Guys

who is the best defender long term to get in for nelsen? have £4.4m in the bank

  10. Mihir says:

which are some good betting sites?

  11. Louie says:

I’m considering keeping Valencia in my team and not shipping him out this week as per my original plan. However, I am nervous he will lose minutes to Nani or be rested for Man Utd’s tasty away fixtures vs Wolves in gameweek 29. Can anyone shed some light or opinion on this dilemma? Thanks

    • CIP92 says:

Who did you want for him?

      • Louie says:

        Kuyt/Arshavin/Arteta/Pienaar/Cahill/Nasri

In short I hadn’t decided a replacement. That’s kind of irrelevant though because if Valencia is expected to play vs wlv I would like to keep him in.

  12. Milan says:

Nelsen out for six weeks. Everyone are free to drop him permanently.

    http://www.skysports.com/story.....07,00.html

  13. dbronaldo says:

    which option guys?
    1. lampard & rodellega > kuyt & bendtner
    2. Lampard & rodellega > kuyt & bendtner
    3. just rodellega > bendtner and sell lamps next week

  14. Milan says:

Looks like Pompey is set for administration. They have given up on PL this season then.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/h.....527495.stm

    • pompeyfan says:

Not a case of giving up. Its either that or be wound up and cease to exist

      • Milan says:

Sorry for the club. One of my PL favourites ever since Dejan Stefanović was it’s captain (former Red Star Belgrade player – my favourite team). Unfortunately poor management ruined them. Hope they come back to PL soon.

  15. teddy says:

    Gents,

Which one would you leave in the dugout this gameweek out of:

Baird, Ivanovic, Tuncay, N’Zogbia and Adebayor?

    • SuperDunny says:

Tuncay, maybe Baird. I’d certianly play the other 3

      • teddy says:

Yeah, I’m considering Tuncay or Baird, but I could see some obscure arguments for the other 3 – N’Zogbia out of form and playing away against a formerly tough defence. Does it make sense to play both Ade and Ivanovic. if I’m backing Chelsea for the cleansheet why play Ade? And vice versa.

        • d1g2w3 says:

nzogbia isnt out of form..he still gets bonus points and could get some this weekend….he couldnt get into thegame against tottenham cos that pitch was god aweful and he likes to run with the ball

        • Humbug says:

Tuncay gets my vote. Baird at least is playing for an in-form Fulham against an abysmal Sunderland.

You’re right about playing both Ade and Ivan but at least playing both will cover your bases. IMO City are pretty awful away from home and Ade won’t do a terrible lot but you never know.

          • teddy says:

I seem to recall Ade scoring on his last visit to a top 4 London club.

My reason for asking is that, barring any injuries or other mishaps tonight and tomorrow, I’m planning Evra out for Insua. That will give me:

            Jaaskelainen
            Ivanovic Insua Ridgewell Steinsson Baird
            Fabregas Etherington N’Zogbia
            Drogba(c) Adebayor
            Sorensen Tuncay Rooney Milner

Assuming of course that Etherington plays. If he doesn’t Tuncay comes in. Unless Tuncay doesn’t play either and I’m down to 10 men.

But if Wenger says that Diaby is fit and gives a strong indication he’ll play, I might take a 4 point hit to bring Diaby in for Tuncay and play him instead of Baird.

Plan for GW29 is Baird out, Distin in.

  16. Suemc says:

Who should i get in for Rooney this week? was thinking of Torres but not sure if he will play full match, already got Drogba, any advice appreciated.

  17. cruyff81 says:

anyone thinking about getting chris “bonus points”
eagles in for the portsmouth match??

    • d1g2w3 says:

i am…but his gametimes dropped in recent weeks

      • cruyff81 says:

ya i had him on my team and then he started on the bench in matches that i thought he would do well in,still picked up 3
bonus points for doing the warm up though lol

        • teddy says:

Burnley are a minefield at the moment. Laws seems to be experimenting, and according to the tweets has Alexander, McCann and Caldwell coming back from injury. So those 3, Mears, Bikey, Cort, Cork, Fox, Carlisle, Jorden, McDonald, Edgar and Elliott will all be competing with Eagles for 8 def/mid positions (with several of the nominal defenders capable of playing midfield).

  18. d1g2w3 says:

anybody watching tendulkar? going for a world record hes at 191 atm

  19. Steve says:

    new article!

  20. 1Man says:

Is it time to bring the inconsistent Kuyt in? Will he score now that Torres is back?

  21. BobB says:

So is NZogbia a good bet for the run-in despite Wigan’s pitch?

  22. honkey says:

‘Pulis pondering a rest for Tuncay’ … Doesnt he play every other game anyway!?!

    • cruyff81 says:

wouldnt surprise me if tuncay left stoke in the
      summer and joined fulham/birmingham.

  23. P-a-H says:

    Hi,

I have cash for Gerrard or Kuyt…

    With who should I go?

    • thewhitemidget says:

Ive got kuyt but after their missing gw i’d swap either for a villa mid

      • P-a-H says:

My plan is to get Milner next week.

        This will be my Mid’s:
        Fabs, Milner, Kuyt/Gerrard, Lee, Nzog.

        Thus the question?

        • thewhitemidget says:

tough cause liverpool dont really inspire going forward. think someone on here said that gerrard does better (points wise) with torres in the team, while kuyt does worse. So i guess if thats the case gerrard should be your man (plus he’s on pens!)

  24. niko says:

If anyone wishes to give me some advise on my side I’d be grateful. Will probably keep Dunne and Rooney on the bench. Thinking of getting rid of Evra and possibly Olsson, baird and Etherington(depending on fitness). Any thoughts/ideas? Will Eagles play?

  25. Tommy K says:

yes! My first consecutive green arrows since GW 18!

  26. shanem152 says:

will we kno before gameweek 28 the result of the potential games in 29?

    i mean,

will we know if aston villa have a 29 before 28 kicks off?

  27. Did something happen to cech tonight?
