Rafa Braced For Agger Blow

As reported earlier this morning in Greek Fan’s tweets, it’s been revealed that Liverpool’s Daniel Agger left Anfield on crutches following the 2-1 win over Blackburn after sustaining a knee injury. Scans today have revealed that the Danish defender has suffered severe bruising.

Agger didn’t appear troubled in the game and completed the full 90 minutes against Rovers but, according to a “club spokesman” today, he is now set to undergo treatment at the club’s training ground at Melwood…

“Daniel underwent a scan this morning which has shown severe bruising to the bone in his right knee. The knee is still very swollen and he will continue to receive treatment at Melwood this week.”

There’s no official word as yet on a length of absence but such an injury can take several months to heal…

In fantasy terms it could be significant if Agger is confirmed as sidelined for lengthy spell. Liverpool have already lost Martin Skrtel to a broken metatarsal so Rafa Benitez would find himself short of cover in central defence. Jamie Carragher returned to that position on Sunday with Javier Mascherano handed the right-back berth. That will change once Glen Johnson is fit and available for consideration. That could well be for the trip to Wigan next weekend. However, should Agger face a spell out, it would seem that Rafa would be forced to turn to Sotiris Kyrgiakos to partner Carragher. The big Greek defender is available this weekend having completed his three-match ban for the red card received against Everton in early February.

Kyrgiakos would represent a relatively cheap option in the Liverpool defence, priced at just 5.8 in the Fantasy Premier League game. He could certainly present a new alternative for would-be investors in a defence that has kept five clean sheets in the last seven league games.

Meanwhile owners of Emiliano Insua, worried about their man’s demotion to the bench against Rovers, could be set for an immediate reprieve with Fabio Aurelio having sustained a thigh strain in Sunday’s game. He is due to be assessed early this week. There’s no news on him just yet.

Same thing goes to me..last week, I made early transfer and got several players injured. What a bad luck.

  2. farhanfaizi says:

What’s the best time to make transfers? After international friendlies?

  3. boney says:

is insua & distin a sure starters for this gw?pls i need some advice..thanks in advance!

  4. fanto1979 says:

    May I ask what you wise gents think of the following;
    This wk Ivanovic to Distin.
Next wk K Davies to Gabby and
    Etherington to Milner.

    • Good choices imo. The striker one seems the most risky though.

      • fanto1979 says:

Thanks Torres, yea Gabby is a bit hit and miss but i’m gonna take a punt on him, I’m also torn between Milner and A Young but seeing as Milner was on peno’s in the final that may sway it for me.

    • Ty_Durden67 says:

Go for it – getting Milner myself but cannot squeeze in Gabby (Drogs, Rooney, Bendtner + limited funds)

  5. farhanfaizi says:

Which one is better? Lose points due to transfers or play with less than 11 players?

    • jamboken77 says:

urrrggghhh it depends on the score that your less than 11 get. If the player you took a 4pt hit on gets you 12 pts then do it!
That’s a crystal ball question pal

      • Ty_Durden67 says:

Also, I wouldn’t get a player just for 1 GW since it could virtually be 2 hits – if it’s medium/long term transfer, definitely go for it as a player should get you 2 pts instead of 0 & therefore hit = 2pts

        • jamboken77 says:

Plus if it’s a defender in a decent team, there’s always a chance for 6 points by doing nothing.

          • si says:

Impressive win for the Jambo’s with 10 men last weekend. Have you got a good team at the moment?

The line-ups for the Old Firm were just depressing. I imagine Mobray didn’t even recognise half of his team.

  6. Milky says:

Had a great weekend score so can’t be too upset about this Agger tomfoolery.

My current team for next GW:

    Hart (Green)
    Evra | Dann | Agger
    Fabregas | Pienaar | N’zog
    Rooney | Rodallega | Bendtner
    Sub: Lampard |Modric | Dawson | Hughes

    I’m contemplating the following transfers:
    Agger (if injured) -> Baines
    Hughes -> Ricketts

    How does that sound?

    • champ says:

very nice this week. Noticed you’ve made 2 trades, what did you do? Those sound fairly good, not sold on bolton may be worth holding off on that and doing hughes to collins next week

      • Milky says:

My transfers didnt help me at all:
        Bramble -> Agger
        Valencia -> Pienaar

Those are long term transfers (except for Agger now of course) so i dont feel to bad about it.

        • champ says:

ouch, that’s the risk of early transfers i suppose. Pienaar’s a good buy. Still internationals to come too though, hope you don’t cop any injuries there

          • Milky says:

I think i’ve had my share of bad luck (was on the Diaby bandwaggon too when it crashed out) so i expect all my internaltional players will be fine :)

  7. Ty_Durden67 says:

Got Ricketts for Baird – not too fond of Bolton’s defence but better return than Burnley’s IMO. W
as looking at Baines myself but won’t get him as I have other plans; bit wondering about Everton’s backline as they have not been really impressive in their last 2, have they?

  8. Warky Talky says:

    Morning Team,
Wondering if anyone was feeling helpful and had a second to help me out with a couple of LONG TERM decisions?
    a) Diaby (if fit) vs. Bendtner
    b) Evra + O’Hara vs. Warnock + Diaby (given that i’d prob already have Collins and Bendtner)

    Cheers chaps

    • si says:

      a) Bendy (or both if possible)
      b) Warnock and Diaby. Villa have 3 DGW’s

    • champ says:

so polite warky, who could say no?
      a) bendtner
      b) evra + o’hara, especially if you already have bendtner and collins

      • Warky Talky says:

Thank you kindly…i think the double gameweek’s swing it for doubling up on Warnock and Collins…+ I think Diaby is the kind of player you play every week (if he could sort his glass legs out), whereas O’Hara/Pompey are pretty hit and miss!

Think im edging towards: Warnock, Diaby, Bendtner….!

  9. si says:

Spain playing in France this week must be making all Fabregas and Torres owners a little twitchy. They are normally very competitive affairs. I knew spain had a friendly but not quite to this standard.

    • IronMike says:

Torres always manages to get injured on international duty aswell. I’d wait if I was thinking of getting him in.

  10. IronMike says:

Pienaar or Valencia in for Lampard? The money I’d save on Pienaar could be used for Lee to Milner and Bent to Agbonlahor next week..

  11. jamboken77 says:

Bolton have a few good games coming up, worth getting in Lee and Davies?

  12. nickybwild says:

anyone know when Tim Cahill is set to return?

    • champ says:

dunno but i’m keen, getting baines instead of pienaar this week in the hope timmy will return by gw 30. If so i’ll get him, if not i’ll get pienaar then

    • Big Dunc says:

possibly this week according to physioroom.com but details are sketchy, so id wait to hear team news this week. my guess is it will be another 2-3 weeks yet

  13. BobB says:

I will be using my wild-card next week to stack up on Villa boys and selected others. I am in a quandry about when to push the button. The likes of Milner and Warnock are sure to rise as the week progresses – so early (Sunday or Monday) seems advisable. Injuries might play a part for those teams who have mid-week fixtures. What would others do – orif you are planning to wc next week, when are you planning to do it and why?

    • keith says:

Press it as soon as the GW opens then you can maximise the cash you make using CTC, as well as ending up with the players you want.

    • Big Dunc says:

do it at 11.31 on saturday moring if you plan to do it next week. the wild card lasts all week so technically you could bring a player in, let him rise by 0.2 then swap him out again bagging the 0.1 profit. This is why most people play wildcards during international breaks as it gives them 2 weeks to whell and deal before settling on final team

    • Warky Talky says:

push it at 11:31 on Sat if you like. you can make unlimited changes all week. Im using mine next week

  14. keith says:

Guys, Struggling to get a team out this week like everyone else, up to 10 after 8 point hit! Any suggestions of a midfield player likely to be worth a further 4 pt hit this week? Current midfielsd is Gerrard Fabregas NZogbia (Lampard) (Gera)
    Cheers.

    • champ says:

      any cash?

      • keith says:

        No skint!

        • champ says:

well it’s either gera to o’hara ( or take a punt on rodwell starting) or lamps to anyone (valencia, gerrard or any everton mid stand out)

          • Ty_Durden67 says:

To make sure to field 1 more, I’d go O’Hara, not much better in his price range (I’m getting him this or next GW to fund Milner)
You could fancy Mascherano, Pool might give you a pt bonus in upcoming games (for not conceding) + he gets BPs… problem is, he doesn’t do much else.

        • Chill Pill says:

Nani V Wolves, very few will have him and United should run riot.

I’m sure he will start on the left and not at risk to Valencia, I think that because while he was available to play on suspension he did so he is clearly in the first team picture.

Forget players like Pienaar, they are good in real games but average in FF.

  15. xabi_14 says:

Would you rather have Milner for his DGW in 30 or Lampard for his in 31?

  16. lawman says:

Ok got 10 playing at the moment, 1 free transfer. Need to get rid of either Dawson or Hughes. Probably Hughes. Got 4.7 to spend on someone, but cant think who. Maybe a Burnley defender, A Birmingham Defender (Although i already have Hart).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    • keith says:

      Distin?

      • lawman says:

Is he likely to play for much longer? Didnt see the everton game at the weekend.

        • keith says:

Has played every game when available. Would have thought few weeks yet till Jags fully fit.

          • lawman says:

            Ok cheers Keith!

            • Big Dunc says:

Will keep playing even when Jags returns IMO…… its the common sense pairing, as it gives the strong defensive qualities of Distin paired with the ball palying skills of Jagielka. Heitenga will move to DM or RB to accomodate. Add to this, distin is usually very fit and injury free, hes a good buy

    • Chill Pill says:

Keep hold of Dawson, they got good fixtures coming up.

  17. tricpic says:

    Ricketts and Pienaar
    or
    Bikey and Valencia
    for this GW?
Can’t afford my preferred option (Ricketts and Valencia) by 0.1 mil (damn those price rises).

  18. Nastradamus says:

Only have 9 Players this week

    Sorensen(Given)
    (Dawson) (Ivanovic) (Baird) Baines Ridgwell
    Pienaar, Fabregas, Valencia, Nzogbia, (Milner)
    Rooney, Jerome (Drogba)

    Baird -> Ricketts ?? 4 pt hit

  19. goblinz says:

would it be better to get an everton defender or midfielder? who do u think will be better in the long run?
    ivanovic>baines or
    tuncay> pienaar

    any thoughts?

    • Big Dunc says:

Baines is the most secure in his position. Everton have a wealth of midfield options now, so noone is really safe except Arteta. I think Rodwell is a great short term option as he is playing just off the striker at the moment. Cahills return will most likely dampen that but at 4.3m its worth a punt

  20. BobB says:

Just want to be really clear on how the wildcard works. At what stage are your changes irreversable? Is it okay to make transfers right the way through the week, ignoring the fact that you’re racking up hits, provided you steer clear of the ‘wildcard’ button until you’re sure that you’re happy with your final selection?

    • lawman says:

If you play the wildcard at any point in a GW, you get unlimited free transfers till the end of the GW.

      • Big Dunc says:

yes. if you took 200 points in hits, then played wildcard at end of week, it would erase all hits and wildcard would be counted for whole week. saying that though, if you intend to paly it, you should do it at the start of the week so that you can profit from wheeling and dealing (eg get a player in that you dont want purely because he will rise 0.2m in the week. you can then sell him again, bagging the 0.1 profit)
