There are conflicting reports this morning on possible FA action involving Birmingham’s Liam Ridgewell.

According to a report in today’s Daily Mail Ridgewell could be subject to an FA investigation and possible three-match ban for his challenge on Wigan’s James McCarthy at the weekend. The Sun meanwhile have reported today that Ridgewell is “off the hook” and no action will be taken.

Ridgewell’s tackle was missed by the officials involved, even though it actually left the assistant referee Trevor Massey with a cut in his forehead. The tackle also saw Wigan’s McCarthy with an injury that forced him off the field, with his boss Roberto Martinez describing it as a “leg-breaking challenge”.

According to the Mail, the FA are currently looking at the incident. The Sun beg to differ.

If found guilty, Ridgewell would stand to miss Birmingham’s FA Cup Quarter-Final against Portsmouth and the league encounter that follows at Fratton Park this gameweek. He would also miss the home league game with Everton in gameweek 30.

*Edit* The latest reports on this matter quote an FA Spokesman who states that the FA will take no action against Ridgewell.

“Alex Chamberlain played three games for the first time in his career. He had a stiff neck at half-time, so I did not want to take a gamble with him. Then we had a problem with Koscielny, and I wanted to give some playing time to Benayoun.”
