Fabregas Ruled Out of Porto Tie

Cesc Fabregas is out of Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Porto with the hamstring injury sustained at the weekend.

Arsene Wenger had been undecided on whether to gamble on the fitness of his skipper Cesc Fabregas for tomorrow night’s tie but it appears the decision has been made for him.

Fabregas limped off with another hamstring problem on 39 minutes after scoring Arsenal’s opener in Saturday’s win over Burnley. He has previously missed a number of games with a similar complaint and Wenger has already gambled on his fitness once this season, with Fabregas suffering a recurrance of a hamstring following is introduction in the win over Villa back in December. This time it seems, Wenger wasn’t prepared to take a risk…

“Cesc is ruled out for tomorrow’s game…He has a hamstring problem and we could not even take a gamble with him…I was hoping [he would recover] after the game because we were cautious with him. He was not adamant about coming out of the team but still he has damaged his hamstring and we cannot take a gamble on him”.

The news is welcome in fantasy terms but the concern now will be that we are facing up to another spell of absence for Fabregas. The Spaniard is owned by over a million Fantasy Premeir League managers and, with Arsenal’s kind run of fixtures from now until the end of the season, his fitness and availability should guarantee continued returns.

Arsenal face a trip to Hull at the weekend but he will likely remain an injury doubt for that one, although the fact that the player himself wanted to be included tomorrow night perhaps hints that he has suffered a minor setback. Fabregas is reportedly due to have scans on the hamstring later today – we should know more very soon.

Torres hatrick with 3 gerrard assists. An 2 goals for mcarthy final score 3-2.that would be great thanks! :£

  4. gizmothelegend says:

I’d take 2 points for Scharner right now without even thinking about it.

  5. abreu says:

before his haul of 13 points in gw 27, Milner played 8 full games without returning one single assist or goal. Makes me think if he really is the one to captain..?

    • Personally, I’m going Drogba or Lampard.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt this year, it is to ignore the big-hitters at your peril.

      …er, usually.

  6. bojan says:

what would be nioce for the game tonight, is if two little japanese masseuses came round the gaf, and rubbed my sore hammys for the entire first half, followed by some “happy time”, followed by scharner to score the winner off an nzog assist.

then, and only then, will i be TRULY happy.

**maseusses can be thai or indonesian also.

  8. denial says:

Er, what the f uck’s going on with Titus Shambles? Is he not playing tonight? I’ve just come round from a massive weekend bender and this is not helping my brain cope.

Chelsea are the team to captain this week for me, with 3 Villa players (probably) I’m happy to opt for Chelsea as if Villa do well then I’ll be in the points anyway, if they don’t, I’m scuppered if I captain the likes of Milner or Young.

Plus West Ham at home, Chelsea should get a good few goals, Villa have stoke away which is very tricky, wigan they should win but we might know a bit more about that seeing Liverpool tonight (or not with how inconsistant Wigan are!). I’ll definitely be captaining a Villa player next week though with two easy home games, even if Chelsea have a double too!

    • toonfan says:

yep its between Drogba Vs Milner for captain this week… am leading towards Drogba it has to be said!

  12. Chopper says:

Wild card time. Anyone got any thoughts on this team?
    Hart Myhill
Dawson (Tott), Warnock, Collins, Baines, Scharner (transfer to Dawson (Hull) after 33)
Arteta, Milner, O’Hara, Lampard (to Fab after 32), N’Zogbia (to Bullard after 31)
C Cole, Drogba, Tevez (to Torres after 31)

    • Marknlard says:

can you do better than Myhill?

      • denial says:

Myhill shouldn’t be anywhere near a WC team. Fine apart from that.

        • Chopper says:

LOL Birmingham & Hull’s fixtures dovetail really well. I always go Tesco value in goal because although you might lose some CS points, you get a save points – so there isn’t as much upside as for other positions in squad.

          Hmmmm.

          • Marknlard says:

Chopper, take a look at Blackburn dovetailing with Brum.

            • Chopper says:

Good shout. Cheers, for the games I’d need them:
              Hull have got Fulham(h), Stoke(a), Burnley(h), Sunderland(h).
              Bburn have got Burnley(a),Pompey(a),Man U(h),Wolves(a)

Hull also got a double (Villa(h) to fit in).

It just looks so good for Hull, but they are Hull. Oh, I don’t know, I’m sure I’ll just make a rash last-minute decision!

      • king999 says:

Complete absence of any United or Liverpool player … wow!

    • gruffyboy says:

Only Fab from Arsenal – I know they haven’t got any DGWs, but they’ve a good run of fixtures. Diaby maybe?

  13. Aquilani – Benitez please explain?

    • Chill Pill says:

He’s realised he’s messed up again and bought yet another shite player.

      • I can’t even have an opinion if he is shite he never plays the f*cker. What a waste of cash, Babel benched again. He will go to another Prem club and be awesome.

        • ilovelayla says:

Benitez has been doing it for years…..the money he’s spent is laughable when yu look at the team and it’s achievements (or lack of). He’s a good coach Benitez as can be seen by him taking Houlliers team to champions league glory, but hand him some cash and he turns into a FPL muppet….and a bottom half one at that…….Love it! C’mon Wigan!!!

  14. marr says:

    Cmon torres!

  15. buggu says:

Come on toress my best differential for a long time.

Got all home players for next gwk apart from bendtner, strugglying to find a space for a villa player.

  16. BobB says:

After much deliberation, I am trusting Arshavan to keep Fabragas’s place in my team warm for one or two weeks. I just couldn’t bear to have no attacking Arsenal presence for games against Hull and West Ham, and after last weekend I have jumped off the bendy bus.
