Porto Win Has Wenger Beaming

Arsenal’s 5-0 mauling of Porto in last night’s Champions League tie saw Nicklas Bendtner offer reassurance on his fantasy credentials with a hat-trick – this after the Danish striker had missed a series of gilt-edged opportunities in the 3-1 win over Burnley at the weekend. Bendtner, along with Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin, produced a performance of quality in the absence of skipper Cesc Fabregas to ease the Gunners to a quarter-final passage.

Arsene Wenger’s post-match comments were not surprisingly tinged with satisfaction after the win and also revealed one or two pointers for us fantasy managers going into the weekend…

Perhaps the most significant of those is that Cesc Fabregas remains 50-50 for a return against Hull on Saturday. Should he miss out then Wenger gave us every indication that Nasri will continue in the central midfield role he performed so well in against Porto.

Bendtner sealed his hat-trick from the spot last night and Wenger also revealed that the striker is third on the pecking order when it comes to penalty duties. Interestingly, with Fabregas sidelined it appears that Nasri takes up that role…

“He [Bendtner] was No 3. The No 1 was Nasri, the No 2 was Arshavin. And he was No 3. He was lucky. Arshavin was out and Nasri as well when the penalty happened.”

While spot-kick duties would have been a nice bonus for Bendtner owners, we can at least be assured of further starts for the striker going into April. Wenger also confirmed last night that Robin Van Persie was at least one month from being in contention.

Thanks for the write up Mark. Are you miffed that the performance came three days too late from our favourite Great Dane?

I sold Bent for him on Friday, so am not feeling too chipper myself this morning.

thats how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Torress was one i had the mistfortune of getting for rooney and all i got was 1 solitary pt.

I,ll be be keeping both for this week at least as they owe to me to repay my faith in them.

      • champ says:

        you captaining torres buggu?

        • buggu says:

          nope i captained fabs.

got a green arrow so cant be too displeased with faye and eagles to play tonight but felt toress and bendtner could have done alot better. Just missed my chance to leap ahead unlike those who had bent.

          • champ says:

I meant for gw 30, but yeah bent or jerome would have gone nicely. So how bout it, torres captain against pompey? or has the wigan game turned you off?

            • buggu says:

Going to wait on fabs news but probably end up with drogba as captain, he hasnt let me down too often at home, man city game being the only real exception.

              • daniel.mf says:

In 3 games I have captained Drogs he draw a 2 blanks 4 me, so I am keen to captain him. I will go Rooney or Milner.

                • MFaulkner says:

So going by form, Drogba will do well if you’re not captaining him. I’ll go with Drogba. ;)

Who do you guys think have better chance to be in all 4 matches ( 2 DGW) Warnock or Collins. and another questions if I want to invest heavily on ASV for 4 matches in 2 weeks what formation should I have between 2 def and 1 mid or 1 Def 1 mid and 1 Fwd , I already has Milner and Dunne.

    Morning all

Quick question-anyone got a website where I can watch the champ league goals from last night? Cheers

  4. ToonTom says:

Footy tube not working for some reason..think they may have planned ahead and scuppered muy plans! Not seen Nasri’s goal yet

  5. Supersonic says:

so did anyone have any cash on the bender or bent hatricks?

  6. buggu says:

Who to play between valencia & evra?

and will rafa play agger ahead of kyrgiakos?

  7. ToonTom says:

    On a more FF tip-

Evra or Collins for a 4 point hit?

    • Only If it frees up cash for another move that will bring the points in.

      • ToonTom says:

Not really…cash not a prob, but like idea of 3 villa players…Fulham could score…cant decide

        • I’ve been burned my loading up on Villa in the last double, worst of which was Milner. However I have got both again.

          • ToonTom says:

Got Dunne and Milner for now..Collins soon maybe…need get Chelsea mid in for DGW too…Last DGW does scare me a little..two away games this one too…

      • Pasqualinho says:

Agree with Voronin – Man Utd have a tendency for CS at home so there’s a fair chance that Evra will outscore Collins this week (even without the 4pt hit). Save it for next week unless you need the cash to fund a more important move.

        • ToonTom says:

My thoughts too, cheers guys, just have to hope Villa conceed on one of those games…think he’ll come in soon either way, may drop Dann for him either…but then id have 5 defenders that I should play every game…

    • Jafalad says:

      Collins. That’s a no brainer.

  8. Squerly4568 says:

Any 1 no if there will b a podcast today?

  9. daniel.mf says:

Mr. Bendtner. You scored 3 goals against Burnley when I had you and my rival has Tevez. I was counting on u 2 close the gap. No, no in CL. I don’t need those 3 goals. In CL I bought Diaby and in 5 goals you do nothing???? Come onnnnnn!!!! How come?

Fletcher or Jerome and went for Jerome cause he has a double and what happen? He injuries him self and Jerome scores a brace (Tevez was sold before the brace against CHelsea to gain cash for Kuyt). Great stuff :) :) . I am not complaining but if I wrote hear will feel better. Thanks for listening.

If I am trying to find some logic Diaby to score bug haul points this weekend and Bendy blank anybody???

    Cheers, :)

The fixtures in GW 30 are repeatedly driving me mad. Thinking Torres to Drogba. Have the money for N’Zog to Milner but N’Zog has a DGW and worried re Milner. Would prefer Agbon.

Would Torres to Drogs and only Dunne from Villa be crazy? Then thinking I could do N’Zog to Milner next week when Villa have another DGW and much better fixtures?

    Any other suggestions welcome.

  11. SammyC says:

Haha chill pill and fran both tripled up on bir defence, think that tells us all something. Nice work slagging off the scoutpicks cp, turner got a cleanie and pienaar got more than any of your players this week, can’t wait for your ’16578 champions’ name next year!

    • buggu says:

i always feel if you going to triple up then best to do it when the team has 2 easy fixtures back to backup, if it works ist time round your quids in if not you got an instant chance to retry so long as there arent any alarming news as to why they lost a cs in the ist game.

i think i tried it once with stoke players eraly in the season and it worked

  12. matt16matt says:

Probably missed loads, but whats the general opionons on bendtner for thiss week adfter the hatrick. Change anything?

Im thinking Bendnter to Drogba, but is it worth a 4 point hit.

    • buggu says:

without looking at your team i say you probably could do with drogba in your team for the next 2 gwks.

As for bendtner i would keep him until the easy fixtures are over, the number of chances arsenal create it doesnt matter if he misses a few. Pity he had to miss all of them against burnley. i cant see he doing to badly again but until he has 2 bad games in arow his a keeper in my side, just long enough for rvp to come back.

      • matt16matt says:

Sad thing is my friend my front line is Rooney Torress and Bendtner . Who goes for drogz? gota be bendtner

        • buggu says:

you dont really need a forward line of drogba, rooney and toress especially when manu will play liverpool in gw31 and they tend to be tight fought games, probably end up 0-0 or a goal scored by a defender.

  13. Supersonic says:

gw 31 sees man u V Liverpool. I have rooney and torres. Would i be mad for doing Rooney to Agbonlahor? Or to Tevez? I just think man u fixtures get tricky from then on.

    • KanvasT says:

I am tempted to do Rooney for Agbonlahor…even tempted to do it this week on a hunch. Although my Drogs to Torres hunch last week didnt work out and I’m doing the reverse of that this week…so what do I know!

      • buggu says:

hunches on quality players isnt a bad thing so as the reason for getting them isnt purely on fixtures and a bit on form. Pity liverpool had a bad day at the offcie.

Agonbonlahor, tevez and drogba should do well gw31 but so could bendtner.

    • IronMike says:

I’m thinking Rooney to Tevez GW31. Maybe Bent to Agbon this week..

  14. Jafalad says:

If I buy Milner this week(well who else in the Villa midpark would you buy?, it means that I won’t be able to buy Tevez in dgw 31 thwarting my golden dream to obtain The Holy Cinque, the Holy Grail of ff.

So a dilemna: who from Villa can I add to Collins for the dgw for about 5-6 mill? Warnock? But 2 Villa defenders doubling up in 2 tricky away days.

    • IronMike says:

There’s nobody in that price bracket who stands out, I wouldn’t double-up. I suppose it comes down to whether you think Milner will score more in 2 DGWs than Tevez will score in one.

Personally I’ll be getting Milner this week and looking at Rooney to Tevez GW31.

      • Jafalad says:

Bendtner’s 3 goals last night throws a bit of a spanner in da works though. I have him, Roonaldo and Drogcula upfront:don’t really want to part with any of them. That swings it back to Milner and buying a midparker from AV.

  15. IronMike says:

Last night went well for me, up to my highest-ever overall ranking (for now), glad I kept hold of Bent when all rivals had gotten rid.

Now leaves me with a bit of a dilemma. Had been planning to do Lee and Bent out for Milner and Agbon, but now can’t help but think that Bent might hit some form. What are your thoughts guys?

    • Jafalad says:

SUN have some tricky games coming up but as I said earlier, footballers are like racehorses:when they hit form, they tend to hold it for a while. Strikers particularly.
My gut feeling is to do the swap with the AV dgw.

  16. adi-wazza says:

alrite folks..who are u gonna captain this week? milner drogba or rooney?

  17. nomar says:

Just out of interest, why are people thinking of shipping out Rooney? I’m trying at all costs to keep him in if I can.

Rooney with a hard single week fixture still strikes me as a better bet than, say, Agbonlahor with a DGW.

I also get the feeling that Lampard over the next 3 games will probably outscore Milner and by a considerable distance too. Other than the Burnley game Villa have struggled to score against decent defences. I genuinely can’t see them running riot at Wigan or Stoke. I can see Chelsea destroying West Ham at the Bridge though.

Next week’s doubles also favour Chelsea over all the other DGW teams. So, really, the gamble is whether Milner’s extra road game this week will net more points than Lampard’s single game at home to the Hammers.
    I don’t think it will.

  18. monkeymagic says:

looks like everyone has similar dilemmas-

I was thinking of doing the following this week-

If Fab fit – Milner and Drog in for Gerrard and Torres.
If Fab crocked – Milner and Lamps in for Gerr and Fab, keep torres.

    Sense or nonsense!?

My ultimate aim is to field the following team in GW31 which is an unpalatable 5 changes over next two gameweeks…-

    Robbo (2)
    Dunne (2) Ivanovich (2) Baines (2)
    Lamps (2) Milner (2) OHara (2) Arteta (2)
    Drog (2) Tevez (2) Bendtner (1)

    Comments on a postcard please!!

  19. Surely the easy way the Gunners sank the Portugese Man o War means Fab will start on the bench if at all!
