The FFS Cup II, sponsored by Paddy Power: The Qualifiers

For those of you eager to know if you’ve qualified for the first round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup II, sponsored by Paddy Power, look no further. The magic score this gameweek, for the 1032 entrants, was 44 (after hits). If you achieved at least this, you have qualifed. If, however, you are one of the fantasy managers that scored 43 this gameweek, then your qualification status is dependant on overall rank…

Fear not though, as 39 of the 40 managers scoring 43 are in. Comiserations to Allnatt, who fails to make the cut despite scoring 43.

I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to see that the Scout Contributors have faired better this time round at the first hurlde. Only SIR PAULOS fails to make the hat for the first round proper.

Full first round draw will be announced in due course.

Milner is the ‘bird in hand’ candidate for captain. Worst case scenario (assuming no injury) is he get 8 points. Worst case scenario for a ‘one game’ candidate like Torres or Rooney is 4 points. Milner is on pens, and Villa seem to get more than their share, home and away. They also get more than their share of away clean sheets, and finally he gets more than his share of bonuses. Seriously, he is the hard-headed choice, even if one or two of the many other possibilities have a good day.

Nice answer. Best reasoning I’ve heard so far.

      • lawman says:

Good reasoning, would just feel safer with Rooney/Drogba as captain.

        • mosch1one says:

Exactly. Defo go to go Milner I feel but as you say, it’s hard to trust him!

          • mosch1one says:

How about what someone has posted above in the same arguement?

“But then for Rooney, all he has to do is score and he gets 2+4+3bp’s. More chance of Rooney getting 1 then milner getting an assist a CS and BP in 2 games i reckon.”

    • Borden says:

      yeh very well put mate

      • mosch1one says:

So who would you go with, them two mentioned, Lamps or Drogba?

Hard choice this week. Will really mix the tables up if people end getting the wrong captain!

        • Borden says:

          drogba

as i have done all season

i rate lampard, i really do, he’s one of my favourite players in world football

but drogba has been exceptional this year. he’s on freekicks, and when the drog isnt scoring he’s getting assists

imo, lampard has been playing in a slightly different role this year, and because he’s world class he’s been equally as effective, but for me, drogba carries around 60% of the goal threat for chelsea
lamps with 20% along with anelka

Plan to do Fabregas -> Milner + Bent-> Drogba this week,
Gerrard -> Fabregas + Nelsen -> Collins next week.
    Good transfers?

  3. Churchill says:

Just what makes a good striker?

Taking Bendtner v Burnley as an example of a striker that polarises opinion. Do you judge a striker purely on goal scoring & assists? Or what else they bring to the team. Things like pulling players out of position, being a bloody nuisance to defenders, allowing others opportunities.

Not picking on Bendtner (he’s bigger than me). Goal hanging strikers seem to be a dying breed. Todays football top demands more of a striker, increased versatility. The ability to shield the ball, drop deep & bring others into play. I think the Dutch call this a “false number 9″. Rooney is a perfect example of this. RVP too maybe.

At a guess I’d imagine we’d all be happy with a prolific striker. But would you be happy with a striker that doesn’t score as many as they could, but brings others into play?

    • mosch1one says:

      Heskey lol!?

      • mosch1one says:

World beater for England as he has class all around him. Pretty average/poor for us as he doesn’t have all these world stars around him to add the shine to his work.

    • Borden says:

      yeh of course

rooney and rvp are perfect examples of this

however for a false number 9 to work, the rest of the team has to have enough quality to exploit the space and opportunites given by the forward

so for a team like arsenal, bentdner (and adebayor before him) can afford to miss chances and have a bad day, cos the rest of the team can score the goals

for most teams…i.e. bottom half of the table…a striker just needs to score goals, thats his number one priority, and everything else is a bonus

      • mosch1one says:

Exactly, which is why Heskey is neither here nor there for us really.

        • Borden says:

          i take it you’re a villa fan?

i rate carew way more than heskey, i think o’neill is doing fabio a huge favor by keeping heskey “match-fit”

i dnt want to think i know about football than fabio

but if i was england or villa manager, heskey would be nowhere near my squad, let alone the first 11

rooney doesnt need heskey or berba at united, so why would he need him for england? makes no sense to me

          • mosch1one says:

I think he maybe finding that out himself right now mate.

Yes I am a villa fan.

Carew has too many off days where he doesn’t look interested where as Heskey dog will run his ass off for you.

            • shy ted says:

id take carew anyday. when is the last time heskey scored a hatrick. i know hes a link up man but if he scored more than villas cbs that would be nice. 5 goals is pretty poor for a (ahem) top 4 club!

  4. shy ted says:

god teams are getting fairly similar on this site now,
    I have for this week,

    hart,(sor)
    Dunne, evra,collins,Agger(Baines)
    Milner c, Fabregas , Nzogbia,(arteta, lee)
    Rooney , Drogba, Bendtner
Now that fab is out who do you recon I should bring in arteta or baines? Im thinking arteta meself.
I have basically planned for these doubles so fab being out is s…te but is there any other transfer worth making? 4 pt hit

  5. Kenncam says:

Thanks Akers and anyone else involved in arranging this. Looks like a lot of effort went into it.

  6. alex234 says:

    hennesey gomes
    evra terry vermaelen dunne baird
    fabregas milner n’zogbia o’hara cohen
    rooney torres bendtner

    a) terry and fabregas –> ivanovic and lampard
    b) cohen and fabregas –> young and arteta
both followed by torres –> drogba next week
    c) something completely different – if so what
