The Rafa era is officially over then with Liverpool confirming this afternoon that Benitez has left the club by mutual consent.

It is reported that a £4 million severance deal was agreed between the two parties with Benitez leaving the club with immediate effect.

Liverpool will now begin the search for a replacement with Martin O’Neill thought to be amongst the candidates. With speculation surrounding the future of the likes of Fernando Torrres and Steven Gerrard, it’s going to get very interesting on the red side of the Mersey and the repercussions of Rafa’s departure may well be felt throughout the Premier League this summer.
