Window Watch – Liverpool Agree Carroll Fee

And so it begins – Newcastle have accepted a club record fee reported to be in excess of £35 million from Liverpool, a new record for the club and a fee that will make him the most eighth most expensive player in the history of football. This comes after the Newcastle Number 9 handed in a transfer request which was accepted by the Magpies after the club had previously turned down two Liverpool bids for their top-scorer.

An official statement on the Liverpool website reads:

“Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a Club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll. The Club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical.”

Carroll is currently valued at 6.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and has been a revelation this season with a return of 113 points, including 11 goals, 6 assists and 18 bonus points. He has been one of the most owned players in the game and, even though he has missed the last four Premier League games though injury, 30.9% of Fantasy Manager have kept him in their squads.

The striker has recently been in Sweden seeing a specialist because of his aforementioned thigh injury and, if terms are agreed and the medical passed, he will not be expected to make his Liverpool debut against Stoke on Wednesday (February 2) or even Chelsea on Saturday (February 6). Carroll’s first Liverpool outing would most likely come in the fixture with Wigan on February 12.

Carroll will form a new look partnership with Luis Suarez with Fernando Torres’ departure to Chelsea now looking inevitable.
