We started with 2,216 fantasy managers all hoping to qualify for the first round of the Paddy Power Cup V, and now we are down to the final two. It’s Funkyav versus sleepingmaster battling it out in Gameweek 23 for the coveted prize. Here’s how they reached the Grand Final…

Finalist No.1 – Funkyav (1,754th in the world)

Funkyav breezed into the first round after qualifying in 290th place with a score of 71. That set-up a tie against Fartak Moscow, where he edged to a three-point victory (59 – 56). He close to elimination in round three, beating jonnygs11 by just a single-point (89 – 88). There was breathing space in the third and fourth rounds however, with wins against Bruceters Millions (60 – 53) and Flussig (63 – 53) respectively. Funkyav’s second scare came in the fifth round, after another single-point victory, this time against Parks (71 – 70). cobbler68 was his sixth round opponent, and 54 – 46 was the result.

In his Last 16 tie, Funkyav notched an emphatic 14-point battering of Bruce Baer (45 – 31), and followed that up with his third flirt with defeat in a nail-biting 54 – 53 match with Sc8tt26. His final act of incredible form was seeing off Raasclart 37 – 26 in the final four.

Finalist No.2 – sleepingmaster (59,659th in the world)

A strong start saw sleepingmaster score 74 in the qualifying round, placing him in the top 10% and in 199th place. He made tough work in the first round, squeezing past hodgson87 36 – 32. Next up were hilary_briss, who succumbed 74 – 66 in the second and Dino, who was dispatched 63 – 52 in the third. His second eleven-point win came in the very next round, beating PM XI 63 – 52. Two five-point wins followed, first against stefoaks (57 – 52) in the fifth, and then agaisnt Dyslexia United (46 – 41) in the sixth.

VereWinner was sleepingmaster’s Last 16 foe, with the finalist prevailing 41 – 34. He then sailed into the Semi-Finals with a 17-point thumping of CSKA Awful (54 – 37), before sealing his spot in the Grand Final with a 48 – 41 disposal of ChickenDevil.

If you pit Funkyav and sleepingmaster‘s weekly scores together, it’s 7 – 2 to the higher-ranked Funkyav (with two of those ‘wins’ coming by way of overall rank).

Also going head-to-head this week are those Semi-Final left-overs, ChickenDevil and Raasclart, fighting it out for 3rd place.

What’s the most points you’ve lost on a gameweek doing extra transfers? And was it worth it! I might do a 12 pointer this week!
