Shane Long is amongst the goals as West Brom ease past Forest to extend their unbeaten run to five games. Michael Kightly notches for Stoke on his debut as the Potters register their fourth consecutive 1-1 draw, while West Ham produce a similar scoreline at FC Braga thanks to a last-gasp equaliser from Winston Reid:

Nottingham Forest 0 West Brom 2
Steve Clarke welcomed back Chris Brunt and Steven Reid as the Baggies extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a comfortable cruise at the City Ground. Liam Ridgewell is a concern, though, after limping off at half-time with a thigh problem, while Jerome Thomas missed out with a niggle picked up in the previous match. In terms of formation, West Brom rolled out a 4-3-3 with Shane Long flanked by Peter Odemwingie and Zoltan Gera, with James Morrison the most advanced of the central midfielders. Morrison was a threat early on and teed up Youssouf Mulumbu for the opener before Long dusted himself down to slot home a spot-kick after being fouled in the box; the goal, his second of pre-season, the perfect response to the recent arrivals of Markus Rosenberg and Romelu Lukaku as the competition for striking berths heats up.

West Brom Starting XI: Foster; Reid (Jara 69), McAuley (Dawson 62), Olsson (Tamas 62), Ridgewell (Jones 46); Yacob (Hurst 81), Mulumbu (Thorne 81) Morrison (El Ghanassy 66); Odemwingie, Long (Fortune 66), Gera (Brunt 69).

Greuther Furth 1 Stoke 1
Tony Pulis handed new boys Michael Kightly and Geoff Cameron their Stoke debuts against the Bundesliga newcomers last night. Both players showed their versatility in the 1-1 draw; Kightly started on the left wing before switching to the right later on, while Cameron began the game in central midfield but shifted into the heart of defence after the Potters boss made a host of changes. Kightly was the chief protagonist for his new club; the former Wolves man scored with his first touch and teed up Ryan Shotton, only for the latter to hit the post. Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen were handed a half apiece between the posts, while Matthew Upson continued alongside Ryan Shawcross at centre-half due to Robert Huth’s absence. Upson hardly covered himself in glory though; he gave away the spot-kick that led to the home side’s equaliser before making way on the hour mark.

Post-match, Pulis revealed the club are expected to sign Dynamo Kiev left-back Goran Popov on a season-long loan on Monday; a move that will surely place real question marks over the game of Marc Wilson in the Potters’ backline next term. The Stoke boss also gave an update on Robert Huth – the German has returned home after being hospitalised with viral meningitis earlier this week and is expected to return to light training at some point in the next few days:

It’s a massive bonus that he has recovered so well because we were really concerned that it was the serious strain at one point. He’s a bit weak at the moment, so it’s too early to say when he will be back. We’ll have to take it one step at a time, but he’s a tough character and I know he won’t want to miss out on the start of the season if that is at all possible.

Stoke Starting XI: Begovic (Sorensen 46); Wilkinson (Jerome 60), Shawcross, Upson (Palacios 60), Wilson; Pennant, Whelan (Whitehead 46), Cameron, Kightly (Delap 76); Walters (Ness 65), Crouch (Jones 65).

Braga 1 West Ham 1
Sam Allardyce rolled out a 4-3-3 formation last night, with Ricardo Vaz Te and Modibo Maiga swapping wings on either side of Carlton Cole up front. Elsewhere, James Tomkins started in central midfield, with James Collins continuing alongside Winston Reid in the heart of defence. Matt Taylor came on as a sub midway through the second half and was handed a role on the left of the front three, with Maiga moving centrally. Intriguingly, Vaz Te shared direct free-kicks with Noble, while Tomkins grabbed an assist for Reid’s late, late equaliser after nodding down a Taylor corner.

West Ham Starting XI: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Reid, Collins (O’Neil 76), O’Brien, Tomkins, Diame (Moncur 84), Noble, Vaz Te, Maiga, Cole (Taylor 71)

  1. this time next week the team sheets will be out \o/

    1. *runs to toilet and vomits violently.

    2. and the site will be down

  2. QPR: Green, Derry, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Park, Dyer, Cisse, Mackie, Fabio, Nelsen, Hoilett.

    1. Fabio...

      1. Where's Fabio starting? Has he actually played at left back for QPR yet?

        1. Who cares. He still gets the CS points.

          1. This is QPR we're talking about.

    2. Nelsen at 4.0 = bargain

I had my beady eye on him ;-)

    3. No Taarabt then.

      1. Ramadan so probably just a precaution.

    4. where is fabio playing ?

      1. LB.

        Onuoha - Ferdinand - Nelsen - Fabio back 4.

    5. so much love for qpr... dont get it myself... hoilett looks a bargain though.

    6. Who will be dropped to bench if Taarabt features?

      1. Kieron Dyer, I guess....

  3. Sooo, turns out the Spurs/QPR rotation is a bit good. Now I have an extra 1.0m left over in this team - best place to upgrade? Ideally I'd like to keep 0.5m in the bank for Lamps -> Bale in GW2

    Friedel, Federici
    Ivanovic, Clichy, Cuellar, Hughes, Clyne
    Lampard, Mata, Pienaar, Noble, Kacaniklic
    Aguero, Rooney, Graham

    1. Feck, I meant

      Friedel, Green
      Ivanovic, Clichy, Cuellar, Gunter, Clyne
      Lampard, Mata, Pienaar, Noble, Kacaniklic
      Aguero, Rooney, Graham

      1. Really where does the Kack love come from?

        1. He's cheap and plays for a decent attacking team with good fixtures. Most likely on the bench most weeks. You think it's worth using the extra 0.5m to get Maloney?

          1. I dunno, the problem is there are so many things up in the air with Dempsey/Sinclair/Moses that effects Kack/Dyer or graham/Maloney.

    2. I don't get it. You brought up Spurs/QPR rotation but it's not in the squad?

      1. ^ I see now

      2. See above. Schoolboy on my part!

    3. If you are keen to keep 0.5m in bank, there are 3 possible upgrades.

Hughes > Hangeland .... Hughes is injured now.
Clichy > Lescott .... More nailed on, I guess.
Kaca > 5.0m .... But I think you wanna keep him for Fulham coverage.

    Fulham team

Today's starting XI v CAFC: Schwarzer; Riether, Hangeland, Baird, Riise; Diarra, Dembele, Duff, Kacaniklic; Petric, Ruiz. #ffcvcafc

    1. Feck. Feck.

    2. Kacaniklic :D

    3. Petric pls stay quite today....

i know that ppl think that you will be another Bosseli

but they obviously never seen you play....

Petric is another world for likes of Graham....

      1. Back to the drawing board for me it seems. With less than a week to go.

        1. i just laugh at post from the page back

how ppl can harsh player if they never seen him play and compare him with Bosseli

oh well, less ppl start with Petric better for me

          1. Did you see him play last season?
I didnt, but Ive read from people he did and they dont rate him
Look at PB for example, he has a great knowledge of the Bundesliga and he doesnt rate him at all. He scored something like 4 goals from open play last season - doesnt look promising. But who knows how he will fit in.

            1. he was poor last season i agree but that's not totaly his fault since HSV has been poor as well

i really think that he well do well for Fulham specialy in his debate season

when he change club he ussualy do hreat in 1st year

+ Jol really likes him and Fulham play very atacking football so i can see petric getting plenty of fpl pts this season

          Why?

          1. I have Hughes/Dempsey/Graham. I want Ful attacking cover, but prefer Petric over Kack. But not over Graham. I'm screwed.

No chris, as Kacankailc will be bench mostly and play when I feel like in a 3-4-3

I don't envisage having Pertric that long term. Hughes (if fit) and regular could be season keeper at 4.5m.

I pondering Hughes ATM given injury tho. . .

            Deffo on other 2 :-)

            1. So not petric vs Graham for you? Both in good pre season form...if sinclair sods of then surely Graham on pens? Both Ful/Swans has good fixt.

                Sinclair seems to be staying.

Michu my swans coverage, with Petric my 3rd striker.

                1. Dyer?

  12. New post.

  13. what is all the Mclean love about? 6.5m is a lot imo. I was expecting 5.5/6

    1. too true.

  14. So kankles starts AGAIN. Loving this dude... anyone shed light on his nailed-on-ness...

actually considering two 4.5s now. kankles and HRK to rotate/bench fodder...

HRK is in for dgw. kankles too big a risk guys? He's been firing in some quality crosses preseason and getting right up the field...

    dont trust noble no more

    1. why no trust in noble?

    2. Went through Fulhams pre season games this morning and he started all but 1 game
Got subbed of in the 1st doesn't say after how long
Subbed off after 70mins in the 2nd
Subbed off after 69mins in the 3rd
Subbed off after 59mins in the 4th
Subbed off after 58mins in the 5th
Came on in the 6th doesn't say when.

  15. Does anyone know if its Hoilett or Mackie playing 2nd striker with Cisse

  16. Hulk Pato and Lucas on the sub bench for Brazil

And they conceded in 36 seconds. Lol.

Hulk will come on I'm sure.

  17. Team......Sorted

    DDG | Federici
    Lescott | A.Cole | Cuellar | Hughes | Clyne
    Hazard | Ramires | Pienaar | Michu | Kacaniklic
    Rooney | Aguero | Petric

Hazard > Bale after 1st GW.

Man Utd, Man City & Chelsea def and attacking cover with Bale also coming in.

Lots of good value in midfield for 6.5m so if Pienaar/Michu don't perform they'll be easily swapped.

Maybe too much Fulham but meh works for me and think all 3 are bargains.

  18. Yaya Guthrie
    OR
    Pienaar Taarabt

    ????

  19. Nice job Raph

  20. Hi Chaps,

Here is my first and least RMT as I have to nail down team today:-

    Friedal / Federici
    Cole / Lescott / Hangeland / Cuellar / Demel
    Lampard / Bale / Pienaar / Noble / Maloney
    Torres(RooneyGW2) / Aguero / Pogrebnak

This lot gives me the following number of players with favourable fixtures (i.e. blues on the ticker) over the first 6 weeks:-

    GW1 - 11
    GW2 - 11
    GW3 - 10
    GW4 - 11
    GW5 - 11
    GW6 - 9 (+Roo/Bale)

Good enough to sign off on and head on me hollyers?

    1. Looks good to me and good forward planning. Enjoy your holidays

  21. Pienaar has averaged 94 points in 5 years of prem league action. Is that a bargain for 6.5?

    1. So your opinion is?

  22. Go on you know you like it really???????????????

    Green (Friedel)

    Lescott Cole Gorks (Tierney) (Clyne)

    Lampard Toure Bale Kacaniklic (Britton)

    Aguerro Rooney Graham

Nowt left in bank. Gone with Roo as too much uncertainty over united mids for start. Keep Lamps and Cole for first two weeks and then probably ship for ??????? at this time but possibly Carzola/Kagawa/Piennar/ Baines/manu/.

  23. Not sure if I'll be delighted or even more torn if Kolarov stars tomor or at least looks like he'll start this day week! If he does I'll have to get rid of Yaya.........

“I am happy with the way I’ve started, but on the other hand, I should have scored four or five more, so that’s something for me to work on.”

Robin Van Persie talks about his early form at United ahead of his first Manchester derby
