The Knee Jerk – Tevez Shows The Way

Filed under: The Knee Jerk - Posted by: Paul

This afternoon’s five-goal Community Shield thriller give Fantasy managers plenty food for thought ahead of the season kick-off next Saturday. Roberto Mancini maintained a 3-4-1-2 formation for the showdown against Chelsea and, with Sergio Aguero failing to have a hand in any of his side’s trio of goals, there will no doubt be a reaction over the next few days as we juggle our City options prior to their home clash with Southampton a week today…

While there is little question that Aguero will continue to flourish in 2012/13, Carlos Tevez’s price tag is starting to sway many the latter’s way. Coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) compared to Aguero’s 11.5, Tevez clearly has the potential to outscore his compatriot in any given Gameweek and with Mario Balotelli still some way short of full match fitness, he is surely set to begin the season alongside Aguero up top. Tevez started last term the dearest of the two but his strop in the Allianz Arena and subsequent lack of game time until the final few weeks of the campaign has seen his price plummet this time round – if he can continue in the same vein as this afternoon’s display, that extra 2.5 saving he affords looks a significant factor in building our squads, though Aguero’s propensity for more explosive returns still looks the best armband option.

Samir Nasri picked up a goal and assist in his role in “the hole” and with David Silva still being eased back into action, the Frenchman could well be handed a starting berth for the Saints game. If Mancini continues with this formation over the course of the upcoming campaign, the position could well yield points aplenty as Nasri demonstrated today. Yaya Toure also served a reminder of his capabilities with a finely taken equaliser – the Ivorian’s deep-lying position could be a worry to his Fantasy suitors; his surges forward tended to come after the break, when Chelsea had been reduced to 10 men.

For Chelsea, much of the talk surrounds the decision to send off Branislav Ivanovic. Certainly, the two-footed lunge looked far from clever and seemed the right decision by the man in black. Ahead of the Blues’ double Gameweek, it seems that he will only miss league action if the FA choose to intervene – a crucial factor for Fantasy managers when assessing our Chelsea options. Certainly, according to the FA website the rulings specify that Ivanovic will avoid an automatic suspension…

“In order to address uncertainty over disciplinary sanctions in pre-season friendlies, sanctions for red cards shown in such fixtures will not now apply to competitive first team games. Any such sanction will apply only in the same competition (i.e. other friendlies including The FA Community Shield).”

They do, however, follow this up with a warning that they still have the ability to step in, should the challenge be deemed enough to warrant intervention…

“However, The FA retains the right to charge players in the most serious of misconduct cases and make sanctions applicable to competitive first-team fixtures if it is felt necessary.”

At present, there is still plenty uncertainty and confusion surrounding any possible suspension. The Reading Official twitter site have tweeted earlier this afternoon that it “looks likely” Ivanovic is out for their trip to Stamford Bridge – both clubs’ second match of the double Gameweek. We plan to clarify this matter this with the FA over the next 24-hours.

Elsewhere, Fernando Torres did his best to tempt investment ahead of his games against Wigan and Reading next week. The Spaniard’s coolly-taken opener will surely see many jump aboard the bandwagon, with even the armband a temptation. Caution is likely to be courted when eyeing up Ramires until the Ivanovic decision becomes clearer – the Brazilian (7.0 in FPL) continued in his recent role on the right of the attacking midfield and supplied the assist for Torres’ strike but was moved to the right-back berth upon the Serbian’s dismissal.

i got williams dyer n graham.
    i need to switch?

    1. I'm not so sure about their defence... Seem to be shipping quite a few in pre season games. Swap Williams for Hangeland if you don't have him.

      1. i hv hangeland n zaba ryte now. plus gunter n demel. switch williams with saylor?

    2. dyer to maloney or noble and use 0.5m elsewhere
dont mind graham and williams, could be good value early on

      1. dyer is explosive. always a threat with his pace n provide goals n assist to his name regularly. hard to ditch him. other option?

have same problem; I dont know if their defense is still up to the task ? whats good df alternative for 4,5?

      1. cuellar quite a popular option

        1. yeah. fabio is differential tho. plays at winger sometimes

      2. Swansea's first 9 weeks look very good. Best 5.0 you can spend right now.

defence a bit weak any thoughts??

    1. kolarov? rotation risk maybe, zaba is safer bet. =)

      1. kolarov could score big if he got the game time though, worth a punt?

        1. I think so, but maybe not in your team with risks already.. maybe pushing luck bit too much :p

          1. this team could score big but will more probaly crash and burn ,

        2. worth a punt if you can switch demel with a reliable 5.0 def. williams will be a good choice imo =)

    2. - risky having no 2nd keeper with de gea
      - defence is bit weak and not 100% nailed on imo (kolarov)
      - 3 midfielder punts: carzorla kagawa and michu
      - maybe downgrade one of cazorla or kagawa to upgrade defence?

  6. Siggy and McLean or Ramirez and kagawa?

    1. And a follow up question - is Ramirez hazard Torres good for dgw or is cole essential? Who should I take instead of Cole? (I have lescot and hangeland and two cheap ones)

      1. at first i hv lescott. but now i switch with zaba. 2 players from chelsea is enuf. i pick torres n lamps out that bunch tho.

Thoughts so far on the closing ceremony?

I was sad the commentators i am listening to didn't pick up the Only Fools and Horses reference with the Robin Reliant and the "Batman and Robin costumes".

Also stoked Oscar Pistorious is carrying the South African flag!

Also sad at the music choices, even as a non-brit i feel they need more music that actually started in Britian (like Punk, NWOHBM, Welsh Choirs, etc) rather than just Pop music by British performers. But the Pop is what sells unfortunately.

    1. Im waiting for "Horse Outside"

    2. No Iron Maiden so far....

        1. Was Liam Gallagher playing Wonderwall with a nasal flute?

  9. which reading defender a guaranteed starter? gunter or mariappa?

  10. What do y’all think of this team?

    Krul (Cerny)
Hangaland – Vidic – Clichy (McCartney – Gorkks)
Silva – Kagawa – Bale – Noble (Guthrie)
    Tevez – Rooney – Graham.

I’m thinking Torres and A Cole for Rooney and Clichy just for the DGW.

    Any ideas for changes?

  11. I've been swayed, taken Aguero out for Tevez.

    RMT?
    De Gea (Federici)
    Clichy, Cashley, Kolscielny (McCartney, Gunter)
    Valencia, Ramires, Cabaye, Guthrie/Britton
    Tevez, Rooney, Torres

Thoughts? Pretty settled on back six, first half of midfield and front three...

  12. Oh man...now y'all are on the tevez wagon
    Go back to Aguero!!

    1. Tevez nearly single handedly won the title back for city. I'm goin with him.

  13. Comments on my team needed and welcomed
    krul (ruddy)
    Hangrland Fabio Williams (R.Taylor, Cuellar)
    Gutherie Hazzard Valencia Silva (Dyer)
    Torres (c) Tevez Petric
2m left for Rooney in Gw2

    1. mancini states that silva will not be ready for beginning of season

      1. who should i replace him with ? Mata??

        1. if you want the city cover in mid why not yaya?

          1. I do like Yaya , what about Nasri as an option, do you think he will feature ?

            1. Ok I've made a few changes, which is better the 1st team it this one
              Ddg (rudd)
Kompany, fabio , hangaland, (williams , cuellar)
              Yaya hazzard gutherie kagawa (dyer)
              Torres Tevez Petric

              1. With 2.5 in bank for Rooney and .5 for?

  14. RMT please: jussi, cole, kompany, rafael, lampard, silva, swp, sinclair, kun, petric, defoe. Subs: begovic, harte, mccartney, noble. Plase also join: 127756-38479. Experience players are there. Follow @beritafplcom or @yahoofplinfo via twittter for tip and suggestion. Thanks,

  15. RMT?

    FREIDEL (CERNY)

HANGELAND KOMPANY SIMPSON ( SHAWCROSS CLYNE)

    KAGAWA SINCLAIR PIENAAR NOBLE (BRITTON)

    ROONEY TEVEZ AGUERO

    please help and comment

    1. Tevez and Aguero is overkill in offensive presence and that money can better be spent elsewhere. I personally opted for Tevez. Don't forget that city has pretty much sealed the deal with sinclair so he might be wearing blue soon. I personally would go sinclair to michu and pienaar to McClean as Everton usually suck at the beginning of the season. I doubt Britton would be playing much so with the new money from one of your fowards you can upgrade him and Cerny as well since he is the back up and won't play.

  16. Could use a RMT please.

    Friedel, Jussi

    A. Cole, Vermaelen, Cuellar, McCartney, Stam

    Bale, Mata, Cabaye, Noble, Britton

    Rooney, Aguero, Pogs

Will likely go with a 3 forward setup each week and transfer Pogs, Cole or Mata (2 of those 3) for a good striker upgrade and cheaper mid or defender for GW 3.

    1. I would consider Vermaelen to Lescott or Kompany as they are much more sound defensively. I also personally don't think much of Cabaye, I don't know why the bandwagon started. I would rather gamble with someone like michu . Otherwise looks about normal.

  17. Guys,

am in a pickle, and need your help to rate my team

    Federici
    Walker, A Cole, Harte
    Kagawa, Bale, Noble, Nasri
    Tevez, Torres (c), Pog

Subs: Krul, Pienaar, Clark (ast v), Demel

    2.0 in the bank

There’s been some thought going into this. Chose Tevez instead of Aguero because firstly, seeing how Tevez is playing gives some encouragement that he’ll start. Second, it frees me up to get walker (maybe lescott instead) and pienaar instead of my previous two of williams (swa) and allen (liv). I’m planning to use the 2.0 in the bank to get Rooney for Torres from GW2 onwards. The fact that there’s no Chelsea/Reading players in GW3 allows me to replace hazard with pienaar and cuellar with a cole.

    Thoughts?

    1. will nasri be playing? hes too often rotated for me, if you're gonna go with a city mid I would go yaya or silva. I agree on you with Tevez, I've put him on my squad in place of Aguero as well. I honestly don't think Torres will do anything so I just opted to go with Rooney from the start seeing as how Everton always blows at the beginning of the season. Like I just mentioned I would opt out of Peinaar as Everton sucks at the start and I would personally go with someone like McClean or if you wanna take a gamble Michu. I would also personally keep cole, Chelsea are not attacking giants their usually very good defensively. Thats kinda the only way they won Champions league plus a little luck considering how badly they were outplayed. so I would opt to keep cole as that to me is a good amount of clean sheets coming in plus he get in a lot of crosses.
      Hope my thoughts help!

  18. my big question is should I start with Torres or just start with Rooney. Last season Rooney tore it up for those first few gw. Torres isn't exactly a big scorer or a good season starter...

  19. WHAT YE THINK OF MY TEAM
    Federici(jaaskeleinen)
    Rafael, Cole, Simpson (fabio, fonte)
    Valencia, Bale, Mata, Gutherie (noble)
    Tevez, Torres, Pogrebnyak

rooney comes in for torres after week 1
Silva comes in for mata after week 2
kompany comes in for cole after week 3...

if tevez isnt starting all the games i can swap bale for mclean and tevez for aguero

    1. Stop shouting at me....

  20. rmt?

    freidel cerny
    hangeland rio acole (clyne )shawcross)

    noble kagawa sinclair piennar

    rooney tev aguero

    SINCLAIR OR RAMIREZ????

    1. ramires for week 1 but sinclair long term

  21. RMT ladies and gents!

    Vorm (Cerny)

    Baines Walker Hangeland (Cuellar Ferdinand)

    Bale Maloney Mata Valencia (Marveaux)

    Tevex Graham Torres

    1. Cerny > a playing 4.5mil keeper. Green, Federici, Jass or Begovic
      &
      Baines > Lescott

  22. I watched a bit of the reserve team action last season.... I think Sterling could be an excellent option at 4.5, though obviously breaking into the LIverpool midfield could be difficult. Does anyone know why Lescott didn't play yesterday?

  23. Has anyone given any thought to Cleverly...seemed decent last season until he got injured.

  24. Trying to decide between A & B…. thoughts?

    A:

    DE GEA & Ruddy
    Ivanovic, CLICHY, Williams, Clyne, Gunter
Mata, BALE, Y Toure, Allen, Frei
    Tevez, Rooney, GRAHAM

    (£0 left)

    B

    FRIEDEL & Ruddy
    Ivanovic, RAFAEL, Williams, Clyne, Gunter
Mata, LARSSON, Y Toure, Allen, Frei
    Tevez, Rooney, TORRES

    (£0 left)

I’m also toying with the idea of starting with D Bent – Villa’s opening fixture list looks ok and Lambert plays expansive football…

    1. A for me,

You could also swap BALE for DYER (Swansea) and then GRAHAM for TORRES...?!

      Best of both worlds ;-)

  25. Any thoughts on who the better choice would be below, Can't decide...

    A. Aguero & Ramires
    B. Tevez & Mata

    Cheers ;-)

  26. Would anyone be kind to rate my team?

    Szczesny (Rudd)

Vermaelen - Hangeland - Koscielny - Terry (Kolarov)

Kagawa - Sinclair - Hazard (Leigertwood - Sterling)

    Petric - Torres - Tevez

    A massive .5 left.
