The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

Climb aboard this haunted vessel via this link, or use the handy player below to stream away.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Keeping an eye on your team will allow me to decide if losing Baines will be to the detriment (or improvement) of my overall team's performance...

You basically have the preferred front 8 of everybody here... with the necessary weak backline to accommodate it...

that is a funny story Nitin.
I asked Jenkinson & Lambert --> Ba & Wilson for 4p hit to field 11 players
        or
        Lambert --> Defoe no hit

When lines-up were out, I wished i made those transers (Jenkinson didnt start, Wilson had a good chance of CS after first half).

After all, I only had 10 players last week but Wilson 1p (injured), Ba injured this week too, I earn some money from Defoe too.

The funny thing is I remember I came on here after that game and some people were infuriated because they'd read too much into Wenger's pre-match conference...and I'd slept in that day only to wake up mid game when RVP had already scored a hat trick! It's funny the contrast...Me totally casual...no doubts over the captaincy...regulars on here ripping their hair out because they read too much into the tiniest of details...it's funny...sometimes stepping away from it all might help sometimes! 😀

I've recently given up on chasing points & price rises and instead concentrated on fielding a team who I think will score best each week (within transfer limits etc).

So far it's working out well and somehow TV has climbed to 105.1m without even trying. I'm putting it down to total luck, tbh.......

i've decided to ignore bandwagons and look at alternatives.. stuck with bale, tevez, rvp(gw 2) from the start without bailin ship like sooo many.. ignored hazard and went for mata instead.. got ba in when no one was talkin about him on here.. point being, you dont really have to chase points.. Also, make transfers on friday evenings!! Why on earth did you get ba in this week when he's a doubt btw? never make early transfers..

Over the season I feel RVP is more likely to be rested than Rooney. Hernandez will get game time and that will come outta RVP pocket. Rooney and kags can play together if one is shifted out wide.

If at the end of the season RVP has 260 and Rooney has 220 I'll be more than happy with that as I feel the players not having RVP allows me to field will more than make that up.

I don't think Hernandez would take a lot of minutes of him, unless he gets injured. If you watch the games, you'll see Rooney running up and down the pitch. Chances are, Rooney will be the one being rested imo.

Currently considering (over a couple of weeks)

    Demel, Berbatov, Michu out

    Nelsen, Walcott, Rodriguez in

That goes against points chasing, and not sure playing the fixtures is the right way to go!

As a Fantasy manager I really miss having Nani as a realistic prospect. When given regular game-time he always produces something, and is often explosive with his scores too.

But speaking purely as a Man Utd fan, thank-god he's been reduced to becoming an impact sub. He's too frustrating to watch week in week out

Big Qs with Gibbs, Ba, Lolarov and possibly Mata.

I'd play Nelsen ahead of Gibbs and Kolarov.

Other than that, you're all set. Injuries or not, you are just going to have to wing it this weekend. May the force be with you.

Mata is cheaper than Hazard, they're playing the same role and I think Mata is a better player, more direct. Hazard on pens but Mata also on FK. Main reason is I hate Hazard, he has always scored points when I didnt have him. if you bought Hazard, can keep him.

Tevez is the best ManC player atm, cheaper than Aguero too.

Berba cannt score more than 15 goals this year IMO, while Ba can

I'm going to ask this again...

With both fixtures and form in mind, who do you think is the best value defender right now?

    Baird.........FUL....4.5....7.3
    Riise.........FUL....5.7....7.0
    Rafael.......MUN...6.0....6.7
    Baines......EVE...7.6.....6.7
    Cameron...STK....4.5... 6.2

    Any others spring to mind?

Value means nothing. Points are what's it's all about.

Baines wins out of that lot and anyone else for that matter.

I disagree with that completely... value means everything to me...

If you really think about it, I'm sure you would think twice about having Baines/Rafael if there was a defender at 4.5m scoring at the same rate as them week in week out... especially if there was a big hitting -on form- midfielder you were losing out on due to being a couple of million short...

The whole team is geared towards earning points, but we only aim to have players who are good value for money... since without those we are unable to afford those flair picks like RVP and still be competitive...

It just so happens that when someone is scoring well that they are usually doing well in terms of value, but I think by overlooking value in a player you are missing the bigger picture... the extra million you can save with a player of similar value (which equates to the same amount of points per pound spent), can be spent towards the betterment of your team...

I hope you're right MU, I enjoy watching him play. I just think there is a chance he will be rested for the CL. It wouldn't be unreasonable for RDM to assume he has enough fire power to deal with Swansea having one eye on retaining the CL title.

need a help… I accidentally (ok i will be honest here) … I foolishly transferred Ivanovic to Baird without even thinking that there is a midweek game between Chelsea and Manu which will lift the ban imposed on Ivanovic..

Now i have 2.9M in the bank and have no free transfer this week.. although i have not played wildcard yet..

My current team after making transfer which i mentioned above is as follows:

    Begovic, Vorm
    Cuellar, Clyne, Baird, Mcauley, Rafael
    Mata, Cazorla, Yaya, Bale, Fellaini
    Lambert, Berbatov, Ba

now since Ba is not sure of playing and Vorm out for 4-6 weeks, should i use the wildcard now or should i take 4 or even 8 point hit?

please reply with your suggestion… am looking forward to it…

Don't use a wildcard if you only want to make a couple of transfers. Unless we hear bad things about Ba I'm keeping whether he plays against Liverpool or not, fixtures are too good to get rid along with form.

If you want to take a hit, I've done a few last couple of weeks and had nothing but green arrows (although I was coming from a bad position, hits aren't always as bad as they are made out to be.

I'll let you make your own mind up but initial thoughts - I took out Cazorla this week for Mata, so I'm not sure who you would get instead, maybe Nasri?

I'd probably shift Lambert too, starts are to unreliable.

yes lambert is next in my list to be transferred out.. now he is i thnk 6.1 and i have 2.9 in the bank..so is it prudent to take a striker of jelavic's caliber?

I'd wait until we hear more about injuries in the friday press conferences. Should Ba and/or Berba not be playing then I'd be looking at Lambert>Defoe.

I think your MF is too good/expensive. In the long term you should downgrade Yaya and even perhaps Felliani and look to bring in one of RVP/Roon/Tevez.......preferably RVP

Have you not got any other options- RVP? Bale?

Out of the two choices, I'd go Aguero as he's more consistent than Lennon (when he plays 😕 )

I have RvP but I have a feeling he will NOT put Arsenal to the sword this week, i'm trying to make up some ground in my league and I will try my luck on Aguero because everyone will be on the RvP bandwagon...

So I was able to get Mata and Morrison prior to the price rises the past gameweek but failed to get in Bale and Ba who were my primary targets.

This GW used my FT on Vorm-->Mignolet and already took a hit on HBA-->Bale prior to the price rise.

I need Ba to fall 0.1 on his price in order to afford swapping him with Crouch next week which I think it might happen.

Do you guys think this is good strategy or should I be doing something else? (I know I need to get rid of Guthrie/Bertrand but I need to prioritise).

    Current GW squad:
    Mignolet,
    Rafael, Clichy, Baines
    Bale, Mata, Morrison, Pienaar
    RVP(c), Berba, Crouch

    Subs: Bego, McCartney, Bertrand, Guthrie

Nice team.....the hit for Mignolet was perhaps a waste of a transfer when you have Bego sat there on the bench.

      But other transfers look good.

I was in a similar position to you with Guthrie stinking out my team. And to be honest it feels great to be rid of him. He's like Ferguson last year but he cost 4.5 instead of 4.0.

A Guthrie>Sterling tranny must be tempting you.....to guard against the unknown and actually have someone who is decent and playing every week to come on if needs be (not for a hit though)

Guthrie-->Sterling crossed my mind several times but now it's just impossible due to his price. Need the funds and additional 0.1 fall on Ba's price which might not occur if he steps on the pitch this GW... 🙁

Listen guys, I'm sorry I got hot-headed above about things...

But I've got a confession to make...

I actually am Juan Mata...hence the nickname ^

I've been trying to warn you guys for weeks now to buy me...I've even been captaining myself continuously now for weeks.

I'm sorry if my message comes across the wrong way...but I'm 100% sure I'll start on Saturday.

Whatever debate you guys want to have over it juan mata...

See...I'm even making puns out of my name...further proof again that I am THE Juan Mata.

I love nothing more than browsing FFS during my time off the pitch.

    Thank you for listening.

    My team is :

    Jask, Davis
    Ivan, Bain, Ridg
    Mata, Bale, Nolan, Pienar
    Coruch, Ba, Fletcher

    Subs : HBA, Clark, Demel.

GW 10 : Gonna captain Ivanovic
    a) GW 10 : Fletcher to Rooney, Jask to Begovic ( Beg price is increasing too much)
    or
    B) GW 11: Fletcher to Rooney, HBA to Mcnuff which gives me Tevez and Jelavic for GW 12 and 13 in case Ba is injured.

Which one is better option guys

Not keen on a) or b). Just work out a way to get RVP instead of Rooney.

Also Ivan captn over Bale? Good luck sir hope it works out for you

I think Rooney will give tough competion to RVP and its going to be neck and neck. If i can save 2 m by doing tht Rooney seems to be a good option and Manu fixtures are good.

Ivan as expecting Chelsea get a CS against Swans. Bale isnt firing at home so am not taking chance on him

With upcoming fixtures taken into consideration as well, I'd say getting rid of Berba is not such a bad idea. But doing it for a hit doesnt seem worth it to me.

I guess it depends on who you're replacing him with. If you have Tevez lined up for example....then yeh go for it

This seems fair Gaffer. I think Berbs is one of the fixture proof players who can bag you ten points even if his team loses.

          Yeh I agree actually.
I funnily enough am considering Berba (as I own Lambert and don't have much cash) so he and Crouchy are the only financially viable players who I can look at.

Think Berba will score well despite his tricky fixture list?

This is also in my considerations, since my patience is wearing thin with Lambert...

And like you I won't have too much money to throw around for an upgrade...

I still think Lambert will come good though... it will just take a lot of patience beyond the short term...

I lost patience with Lambert and gambled on Lukaku... so one player out not guaranteed starts for another...

Not if you have a full and decent team imo. I suppose an inspired transfer would be OK. I'm keeping him until I find out if and how long he'd be out for.

    Serious question.

    Captaincy.

    RVP 10/11
    Bale 7/5
    Tevez 10/11

    Odds are for anytime goalscorer.
