The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

Climb aboard this haunted vessel via this link, or use the handy player below to stream away.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Arsenal and Giroud have been very unlucky so far. Arsenal have had the most touches inside the box, equal the most chances created, and the highest amount of passes in the final third. They are also second in total shots on goal. If Arsenal players don't do well against United (quite conceivable) I won't be selling because their next run of fixtures is awesome right up till January.

I'll be having Sagna, since I can foresee the 1-0 Arsenal of old coming to the fore...

Despite all the chances they seem to create, I think for the time being Sagna will cover both defence, and attack to a certain extent...

That is until Cazorla shows me he is worth his price tag with FPL points...

I think he's always been pretty attacking. 1 goal and 2 assists last season, but he was injured for more than half of it. Check out the heat maps in his last game - I know it was only QPR, but still, 2nd most advanced player on the pitch is a bit ridiculous for a right back.

I met Sagna at a party a year or so back, and I lied to him. I told him that I had him in my fantasy team and thanks for the points. It was a lie. What else was I supposed to say? "Nice jeans...£500 really, is that why they have all those rips in? Yeah they look really great."? I lied to him.

He scored a goal and got 2 assists in 1700 mins last year... not bad since Baines only got 2 assists in almost 3000...

We have only had one game from him, so it's hard to give an accurate forecast of how he is going to continue...

My point being that if these 1-0's continue there won't be as many attacking points going around and with his steady supply of crosses, he looks good to me for the odd assist...

On top of that he is cheap as chips... Absolute bargain...

How many first team players played in that game?

One. Koscienly... and Walcott may just have done enough to get himself back in the team...

I don't think the results of the reserve team can be used as a justification for the first team doing better, even if it stands to reason that the first team should be doing better anyway...

The two competitions are completely different... you are looking for reasons that are not there...

Hey Zep, talk me out of this will you.

    GW10: Guthrie & Santi -> Pienaar & Taarabt (4 pointer)
    GW11: Clyne -> Sagna

    Jaask, Fed
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Mata, Santi, Michu, Guthrie
    RVP, Ba, Berba
    Bank 0.0m

Covers me if Ba and/or Berba don't play this week, and the 3 mid price mids rotate quite well fixture wise.

You want to spend 4pts to take out our talismanic figurehead just before a pretty decent run of fixtures?

I can see the temptation to do that, but doing so for Taarabt will undoubtedly cause you pain and suffering in the long run... sure he has some good fixtures, but he has only just got back in the team, are you really sure he can be relied upon, or better still can you rely on Hughes' consistency of selection...?

Having just seen the ticker, he does rotate quite nicely with Pienaar...

One question... are you able to bring Cazorla back in in no more than 2 moves?

Yeah, I noticed the rotation with Pienaar & Michu too (pretty much pick themselves for the bench for the next 8 or so weeks).

Bale -> Santi next week is an option, or even Pienaar & Baines -> Santi & Sagna once Everton's fixtures dry up in a few weeks.

I think I'll probably keep Santi though, and then just weep when Taarabt bags a brace this w/e and I'm forced to start Clyne and McCartney when Berba and Ba don't play....

What does your gut tell you?

I, for one, have already made the swap to Mata...

This is the one week where Taarabt is a better bet for points than Caz, but that is probably the only time I will be able to say that this year...

Think I've decided to save the transfer this week. Think I'd probably be slightly late to the Taarabt train than get on it early and be stuck. Also, the gooner in me wants Santi to thrive, so I think he stays. Just hope Berba & Ba can play this w/e!!

Possibly, yes. However, I can see being left out of games completely where he doesn't even appear on the bench. If he has a good few games he could potentially nail down a first team role with Nani off form and Kagawa injured.

I would much rather have Valencia tbh. He will have a cracking few gameweeks IMO.

Rooney loves scoring against Arsenal, even more than he loves OG.

Better put RVP down for just the 86 then.

I'm convinced I want both Arsenal attacking cover as well as Citeh attacking cover. Can anyone find a way for me to get Tevez in without giving up Arsenal attacking cover?

    Baines, Gallas, Clark, Demel, Davies
    Bale, Mata, Caz, Pienaar, Sterling

Haha. Considering Walcot instead of Caz or finding dosh with the sale of Foster and Gallas perhaps then upgrading Berbs.

I'd want to see a few more good games from Walcot before I'd seriously look at bringing him in. Even then, Id be very reluctant to lose Cazorla at this stage. The Foster/ Gallas downgrade option looks better - but it will obviously take time (or points hits) to happen.

          ...it's a tricky one.

Berb -> Tevez next week, which means 2.4m to find. Hmmm. Can't lose Baines or Pienaar with their next 3, so that leaves Bale, Mata, Caz, RVP or Ba. Only possible option is Bale (mcy, ars next), but make a plan to get him back in GW13.

I'd rather get rid of Baines than Bale. I could possibly sell 3 defenders to get the cash required. Major surgery but it could be done over a few weeks and in time for when Citeh get knocked out of the CL

Not with their respective fixtures I wouldn't.

          Bale (mcy, ars, WHU)
          Baines (SUN, rea, NOR)

In short, there's no easy way to do it, and the surgery required probably isn't worth it imo.

I was planning on selling Gallas anyway and Clark is still injured. + there is no point in having Foster if he will sit on the bench every week. It could be worth doing over 2 or 3 weeks if I need to get rid of Gallas(fixtures) anyway

I agree, Foster needs to go. Gallas is still cheap enough to justify rotating with fixtures imo. Can you raise enough for Berba -> Tevez from Foster & Gallas -> 2 uber cheapies? If not, perhaps downgrade Clark also. Problem with that is you're either taking a hit, or you're missing the 2 homes games that Tevez has before MCY's fixtures stiffen a little...

I would suggest that Defoe can't be considered long term with Ade in the picture... and I would also suggest that you would ideally want the best player from each of those teams as coverage... i.e. Bale... is there anyway to fit him in there?

This was just a quirky idea I saw I could do with a 4/5 transfers by downgrading in defence. I don't think I really want Defoe tbh...like you said heavy rotation risk....just showing how cool it would be to have all bases covered from the top teams.

          Baines
          Mata, Santi, Bale, Sterling
          RVP, Ba, Tevez

Basically my team for the weekend, if I take a hit (with Kun not Tevez)

People say Silva isn't worth it but last year he got 17 assists and 6 goals along with 21 Bonus Points...that's 23 attacking returns in 2801 minutes that he played.

23 attacking returns in the equivalent of 31 full 90 minutes over the season. He's been injured and off form a bit to start but I can see him getting back to his old ways and making up on lost ground.

Well obviously they are as he is not on the pitch...as he is injured! It's certainly affected his ability to get going. But he showed glimpses of it with 2 assists in a row recently. He's probably a luxury buy but there's few who can match that sort of consistency when he gets going.

I am talking about the games he has played. Its clear he has underperformed so far when compared to last year. I will need to see more evidence of last years form before I consider him an option. Cudos to those who get him just before he goes on a good run though.

Walcot is the key there. I know I will have no trouble getting that team if I get Walcot but it does depend on whether he will be as nailed on as we all hope. He would also become a must have if played as a striker.

I need Rangel to survive one more round of price changes...

He's on -84% at the moment... and if he falls again I won't be able to afford Sagna in a straight swap...

C'mon Rangel, stay strong for me!!! YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE!!!

    Evening all!

Cannot for the life of me figure out how to get RVP in. I have Tevez Fletch and Berba up front and dont fancy losing Fletch or Berba for this weekend. Villa at home and Everton at home...........both (if Berba plays) SHOULD score at least one goal!!!

Now, Tevez returns to West Ham.....but with huge champions league fixture Tuesday (although its home). I can see West Ham giving us a fight and it being a 2-2 or 1-1...yes a draw 🙁

So I pose to you........Tevez to Rvp and a downgrade somewhere else, then when Tevez looks essential, downgrade a mid later and get Tevez back???

    tevez to RVP??

2-2 or 1-1 or even ManC lose, it doesnt mean Tevez wont score or assist or bonus.

I share your fears on this one. Recent history says that Lambert will be on the bench and come on.

I'm kinda hoping that he might get a start though, he didnt feature in the League cup game and Adkins needs to change something as they've been consistently losing their away games

I benched Aguero twice last year, and in each case he got 2pts... does that mean I made a mistake and should have transferred him out?

If NN wishes to hold on to Giroud or the foreseeable future, then I can forgive him for thinking about benching him away to Utd... if not then I agree that he should probably transfer him out...

Trust me, those games were the longest games I've ever had to watch...

If I could do it all over again, I'd just bloody play him in those away matches and suffer the 2 points... much better than hiding behind the couch every time he touches the ball...

If you just post a front 7/8 you are more likely to get a response than with a full RMT!

    Observation I made...am I right?

Posed a question before, so now from there how about this..............

    HBA Pienaar Cazorla Bale
    Tevez Fletcher(c) Berba.

Would you a) upgrade Tevez to RVP and downgrade Caz to a Sterling or Maloney or McCarthy type.
    b) wait til tomorrow to see if Berba is expected to play, and if hes not, Berba out RVP etc etc
    C) leave my team as is, and pray to the Fantasy gods that RVP has an off day v the Arse.

    Thanks. Bit stuck.
