Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

As QPR basked in the sunshine of their deliverance and waves of summer signings lapped the Loftus Road shore, a long-levitating penny seems to have dropped in the mind of Adel Taarabt – that to establish himself in the Premier League, he must shake off his reputation as a luxury player.

His virtue, or rather virtuosity, was well known to Fantasy managers following his 19 goals and 16 assists in QPR’s 2010/11 promotion push, but it quickly transpired that the mercurial Moroccan was bereft of his manager’s trust in the unforgiving air of the top flight. Frequently benched, occasionally omitted from the squad entirely, a reluctance to degrade his art to a trade tried the patience of his embattled boss.

Handed a fresh start and a new three-year contract, Taarabt was conspicuous in the starting 11 for QPR’s opening day pasting at the hands of Swansea, but Mark Hughes’ explanations for his subsequent banishment carried a decidedly familiar tune. Exiled throughout September, Taarabt came off the bench to score against West Ham on October 1 and notched again the following week at the Hawthorns. Playing every minute since, including an excursion to The Emirates in which he recorded twice as many tackles as his nearest midfield competitor, his all-round displays seem to be finally cementing him a starting berth.

With still no wins to his credit and little to show for his summer expenditure, the vultures are starting to circle for Sparky – and his future may well depend on the outcome of the next three games (RGD, stk, SOT). Hosting two of the Premier League’s most porous defences in the next three, attacking returns should be on the cards for the twinkle-toed Taarabt; and whilst Esteban Granero has usurped a portion of the set-piece patrimony, the Moroccan magician is still assured a substantial share. Importantly, with direct attempts his particular penchant, he may have the best chance of breaching the Britannia barricades come Gameweek 11.

In terms of competition for investment, the aforementioned Granero offers assured starts and a share of set pieces at 5.5 in FPL and 6.5 in Sky Sports, and Junior Hoilett offers good open play threat with less security of game time at 5.8 (7.1 in Sky Sports and listed as a forward). Up top, Bobby Zamora has a consistency of starts at 6.4 in FPL and a hefty 8.2 in Sky Sports, but with forward line spots ever at a premium and no goals in four, the smart money looks to be in midfield. Tipping the scales at 5.5 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, we’re backing Taarabt to offer the most bang for your buck from the QPR ranks over the weeks to come.

Yes, Berba will start, score 4 times and then be subbed off on 59 minutes.

Cuellar will be risked from the start, but will score an OG before tearing his hamstring once and for all and then be out for 4 months.

Desperate for a pointer or two lads. Here’s my shabbyass defence:
Baines – Rangel – Taylor (not nailed on) – Cuellar (injured) – Gunter (out of favour)

The only way I can put a playing 11 out, is by doing:

    A) Giroud + Gunter > Lukaku + Evans, cant take Rangel out, cause it’ll still amount to me having 3 non playing defenders. I’d like to hang on to Taylor if possible, hoping he might make the cut for New’s awesome fixtures.

    B) Giroud + Taylor/Cuellar > Defoe + Evans, already have Bale, and don’t want to double up if possible with mci and ars coming up for Spurs.

    Which one?

What are peoples thoughts on this team in for GW11 and on?

    Begovic
    Baines / Vertonghen / Cameron
    Bale / Mata / Valencia / Lallana
    Rooney / Tevez / Ba

    McCarthy / Sterling / Nelsen / Gorkss

Lallana/Sterling would play on a H/A rotation policy with both having very good home fixtures and playing for teams that tend to be better at home.

I would also be looking at possibly ousting Valencia to Walcott should the latter start to get regular game time.

    Any thoughts?

morrions plays in hole - the taarabt sulks on left midfield
morrison works hard - taarbat does not work hard
morrison shoots from in and around the box - taarabt shoots for 30 yards
morrison is only 1-2% rotation risk - taarabt is approx 30-40% in my estimation

      Morrison all day

Crazy summary, Taarabt as the article states made as many tackles in midfield as any other midfielder, since his return, has worked harder than any QPR player, aside from not sulking does not play left midfield but a floating role, an has scored many goals inside 30 yards, you may still opt for Morrision, however avoid putting misleading info out there.

cuellar is a doubt - he has not been confirmed "out"

“None of the injuries are serious – Seb and Craig had dead legs and Danny Rose has a cut to his ankle which is taking time to heal – that’s why we decided to rest them for the cup tie.

“But there’s every chance they’ll be fine – Craig trained yesterday and generally they’ll be there or thereabouts.

Well-written imo. No unnecessary use of fancy words--just colourful, active expression with precision word-choice. Always look forward to reading them.

Starting XI for Gameweek 10 is as followed:

    Begovic (NOR)
Jagielka (FUL) – Rafael (ARS) – Shawcross (NOR) – Ivanovic (SWA)
Hazard (SWA) – Ben-Arfa (LIV) – Juan Mata (SWA)
Crouch (NOR) – Defoe (WIG) – Holt (STK)

Bench: Vorm (CHE) – Jenkinson (MUN) – Dembele (WIG) – Gaston Ramirez (WBA)

Besides Jenkinson, who will most likely not play since Sagna’s return, everyone on my bench is injured. Thinking of taking a -4 or -8 hit to get rid of Jenkinson and Dembele. I’ve got 1.5 in the bank. Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

So guys, what do you reckon, go for Sterling, or PUNT on Taarabt?

In an attempt to stop the rot, I've played my wildcard. Could I get a second opinion on what I've chosen?

    Begovic - McCarthy
    Baines - Rafael - Cuellar - McCartney - Nelsen
    Bale - Mata - Fellaini - Sterling - Gera
    RVP - Tevez - Ba

I have 0.8, so I could feasibly upgrade McCarthy or Gera?

    Cheers lads.

    Hello Again.

Not sure if it's considered poor protocol to repeat a request for a team review but the the new thread caught me out slightly.

Any advice for a Gameweek 10 starter with only 100m? All suggestions appreciated.

    Begovic, Tremmel
    Baines, Cuellar, Baird, Cameron, Nelsen
    Mata, Cazorla, Bale, Maloney, Gera
    RvP, Tevez, Pogrebnyak

    Advice received so far:

    Tremmel is pretty short term.
    Cuellar is doubtful.
    Cazorla is high price/low return

p.s. Thanks to Parmtree, Vamp Persie, Dusty and The Game for making me feel welcome.

Saw your post at the end of the last thread, welcome Tonka.

It looks good considering your budget limitations. I think you've been forced into a few dodgy picks, I'd downgrade Cazorla to someone around the 6-7m mark and spread the money around.

This won't be popular around here but you could also look at downgrading Baines. 7.6m is a lot for a defender that embarks on a horrendous run of fixtures in a few weeks.

        Thanks Milanista.

I was already looking at Cazorla > Michu. I believe he is OOP and still finding some form (if you watch the games and not just the points haul).

        Santi > Michu
        Pog > Lukaku
        Gera > McAnuff

Just to get me up and running for a few weeks.

I agree with those moves. One thing to bear in mind is that Michu is one yellow away from a suspension but if he avoids getting it this week he is a great pick next week against Southampton.

For this week, it's great. Long-term - No, as their fixtures aren't great. But then again, this has hardly been a season where you should be looking at the season-ticker.
