Watchlist

The Watchlist – Theo Walcott

It hasn’t quite been the season Theo Walcott had anticipated. After a series of frustrating campaigns at the Emirates, the winger had finally flourished as a Fantasy force last term, with eight goals, 11 assists and 19 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points earning him an overall haul of 169 points. Walcott’s link-up play with Robin Van Persie was a crucial aspect of the Gunners’ forward forays in 2011/12, but the Dutchman decided to “listen to the little boy inside” in the summer and promptly upped and left for Old Trafford:

A resultant restructuring of Arsenal’s attacking options has seen both Gervinho and Aaron Ramsey selected ahead of Walcott on the right flank, with the former Southampton man afforded a single league start, all the way back in Gameweek 1. Brief cameos off the bench have hinted at his potential, though; finding the net against Norwich and West Ham, Walcott’s two strikes are the equal of Lukas Podolski, despite featuring in just 249 minutes to the German’s 723, while Arsene Wenger’s main frontman, Olivier Giroud, has notched once in 628 minutes.

Handed a rare starting berth in the midweek Champions League game at Schalke, Walcott opened the scoring in the 2-2 draw and opined post-match that he’s more than deserving of a regular role right now. Looking at the stats so far, it’s hard to argue – in all competitions for the Gunners this season, Walcott has produced eight goals and four assists over 13 appearances; bearing in mind Gervinho and Santi Cazorla, with three goals apiece, are Arsenal’s top league scorers after 10 matches, it’s difficult to understand just why Wenger has been reluctant to utilise Walcott more freely.

With Gervinho ruled out due to an ankle problem and Ramsey a likely deputy for the suspended Jack Wilshere at home to Fulham this weekend, the stage looks set for Walcott to make a statement of intent. Coming in at 8.7 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, he offers an intriguing alternative to Cazorla and Gervinho in the Gunners midfield, providing he can reclaim his regular role once again. The upcoming schedule affords Arsenal plenty optimism – four home games in the next six (FUL, TOT, SWA, WBA), in addition to a trip to Villa, gives Wenger’s side plenty opportunity to improve upon their current seventh position. If the Gunners boss finally relents and allows Walcott his preferred central role, the bandwagon could well be in overdrive.

As in Bench gorkss. Riise out for Sagna may not be such a bad call though with their respective fixtures. Just that Riise, on corners and free kicks is always capable of an assist.

Defoe >> Ba for a hit?

I’ve already got Bale for Spurs coverage and their fixtures are tough. Defoe played mid-week, Ba didn’t. Think Ba is nailed on, not so sure about Defoe, being away from home, can’t see a 4-4-2 from AVB.

Also, is it mental to go through the next 4 weeks without RVP? I just can’t justify the no of hits it would take to get him into my team. Aside from him who are we backing for points from the United team? Seems like Valencia is getting some love…

    Nice one.

I would have thought if he plays this weekend and does well Wenger is going to find to very hard to justify keeping him off the starting 11. I mean even for this weekend he is going to find it hard. Other managers can hardly not have noticed that he is playing tiny minutes yet still racking up goals so unless he starts getting played he is leaving Arsenal for somewhere, right?

team this GW wtih 2 freebies and 0.7 cashola

    Begovic (jussi)

    Rafael,Baines, Hughes (gorkss,demmel)
    Santi,Michu,Pienaar,HBA (stirling)
    RVP (c), Tevez, Berbatov

Not sure weather to offload Hughes to a Shawcross or play Gorkss.. can't see anything outstanding to be done? but with 2 frees, it's mighty tempting.. thoughts fellas?

looks like you don't really need to do anything even for next week...maybe Pienaar > Fellaini for added goal threat if you fancied a punt

hughes is cheaper then cameron but it gets a way into Stoke defence and potential cleanies.. like it

I wouldnt, Michu is playing as a striker and Walcott is playing as a sub.

Just wait a week or two. Michu should do well against SOU.

Haha watching chu young ping pong and mark is like watching Mancini and balotelli.......figure who causes controversy and the man in charge is trying his best to keep him sane

Demel also available, will be more nailed than McCartney and a nice 4.0 alternative.

Guess thousands will bring in him and Ba the next 24 hours.

Thinking of selling Walters myself, but it just doesn't seem right considering he has QPR at home this week.

He was a novel punt but I just dont think Stoke are attacking enough - I should have jumped on the defender bandwagon as I see a few 0-0's ...

love the walters move even if this week it is likely to bite you in the ass. not really a fan of valencia tho tbh. lacks goal threat. this was helpful

Thinking of Hazard to Mata for -4 to free up funds to sort my defence.

    Feels a totally sideways move

Just noticed my post got clipped - so here it is mended...

My defence is a worry for this week as I just saw Simpson is a doubt for the weekend.

    Should I just play:

    Federici (NOR)
Baird (ars) Boyce (WBA) Ivanovic (LIV)

leaving Jaask and McCartney on the bench (both away to newcastle)

OR... should I take the a 4 pt hit and drop out Simpson for a 5.9 def or Federici for a 5.4 gk?

I was going to put in Evans, but he is orange as well so not going to do that.

4 point hit done with Gallas, Bale, Aguero -> Rafael, Ramirez, RVP.

    Team for GW11:

    Begovic
    Baines Rafael Nelsen
    Mata Cazorla Ramirez Nolan
    RVP (C) Ba Jelavic

    Subs: Foster, Sterling, Clark, Demel

    Right team/subs yes?

I like this team mate. The only trouble would be Nelsen. But I dont fancy Stoke to score more than 2 anyway so good luck with that.

Yeap I have no doubt that Aguero can do very well against Spurs but I've lost my patience after he did naff all at SWA and then benched last game. I think he might get a big haul this week but may again be rested for AVL. Would've waited and brought him in next week but he's going down and RVP keeps rising so wouldn't be able to afford!
