The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Suarez is playing out of his skin but Liverpool themselves aren't playing that well. I expect his returns will dry up a little for that reason, he cant continue to do it himself in every game.

Tevez on the other hand is playing in a team thats really starting to find form, I'd keep Tevez and look to improve elsewhere.

As for Baines, 4 quiet weeks for him is the time to keep him, returns are on the way

Yeah watching him this afternoon was fairly torturous. At least i had Sterling which eased the pain somewhat.

Like i said above, this week was the one i really wanted him for. Not sure 2 back-to-back away games is attractive enough to warrant jumping ship now. At least that's how i feel tonight. Who knows what my take on it will be tomorrow 🙂

Good plan I think _when Roon plays it seems teams get less attacking options anyway. He's such a work-horse and tracks back to help the defense like no other attacker.

I really think Ruddy might be the best value keeper in the game from here on in. I've got 2FT. Do I say goodbye to Foster and say thanks for all the good times?

I can always get Olsson/Ridgewell for WBA coverage later?

The only thing is I pretty much have to stick with Ruddy for the long term.

    Anyone got any good advice?

B*llocks, I wish I'd not fallen asleep earlier. I have now 30 minutes to make a potentially season-defining transfer of Foster > Ruddy.

I'm thinking of doing it because

    a) It frees up cash
    b) Ruddy at 4.5 is the cheapest and best value keeper around.
    c) Foster is a liability and will be ignored by the masses.
    d) I can buy a WBA defender soon instead by downgrading Riise.
    e) It's the last chance Ruddy will be this low-priced.

Please advise me here...I feel like I'm totally knee-jerking but is it more sensible than it seems?

In fairness I'm biased, having stuck with him through his tough fixtures. But he has a relatively attractive set of fixtures coming up and is always dangerous.

WHM, LIV, ful, eve, SWA, STO, avl, sun

Arsenal have not been clicking until recently, If Walcott/Santi/Giroud really start to gel then bale would drop down the list as Bale is carrying Spurs at the Mo.

Haven't seen enough of Silva, and goals can come from anyone at City, but he could easily rise up the rankings too.

          They are all good options.

Yeah cheers for that. I reckon Spurs need Dembele back to give Bale his best chance....

This might seem like a lazy answer but I honestly think there is nothing between any of them. Hazard is the only one I wouldn't happily own at this point. Silva and Walcott stand out simply because of the current low ownership, but I don't think they'll necessarily do all that much better.

Yeah I agree DP. Hazards price also not now justified with the others coming in cheaper (and possibly better). But the rest....yeah pretty much the same.

But I want to shift Bale and reckon it'll be for Silva (although already have Tevez), Walcott (thinks he's now nailed) or Mata (should be through rotation for a few more GWs)

        What you reckon?

I have a slightly illogical loyalty to Bale, so take this with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't sell him. If you can find a way to upgrade a cheaper mid, maybe by selling baines or something, then silva or walcott are good shouts. But Bale will score consistently and sometimes hugely, and he can do it against anyone. He's been in my team since GW1 and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Fair one, I've just been fairly disappointed with him lately and maybe looking to move on...
