The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Jelavic > Saurez for -4?

    a) Give Jelavic one last week with a favourable fixture

    b) Do it now and catch Saurez's inevitable further price rises

    c) Wait until later in the week in case of injuries etc.

Tending towards a) but b) is so tempting

Need your help after a shocking week!

    Foster / Begovic
    Davies / Baines / Evans J / Nelsen / Gorkss
    Sterling / Mata / Puncheon / Nolan / Bale
Van Persie / Berbatov / Ba

1 FT, £3.9m in the bank.
Plan was to upgrade one of Puncheon/Sterling both I think I can get away with both of them.
    Thoughts?

Jelavic. I need a hit to get Suarez and I already have Sterling so I'm not getting him. (Suarez 3 goals from 3 shots on target in the last 2 matches - Steven Fletcher much?).

I would have liked Giroud but that would mean Cazorla to another mid and Jelavic to Giroud which seems to lateral IMO.(As I don't want to double up on Arsenal)

There is going to be some serious knee-jerking going on this week. You may well be right. A lot of teams will probably take all sorts of ridiculous measures to mess up their teams. There could be a major benefit to being conservative and trusting your teams ability next week. For instance, if RVP comes back with a bang. It could make a big difference.

Well if Chelsea won 3-0 yesterday I would. But its painfully obvious now how much RDM needs him. Also if you saw the game again once Mata came on, he looked the most likely to do something from all the Chelsea players.

I hate that my team had 4 assists and 2 goals today...yet 2 assists were on the bench and neither of those goals were my captain. I hate this game sometimes!

That is extremely enticing but you just know that once you sell Baines he will return to his early season form and will be difficult to get back. The key to this season unfortunately is patience, stick with it and it will come good.

Why are you guys selling Baines? Are you predicting that everton good run is coming to an end this season. Everton will get goals this season and Baines will be involved in it.

          I am sticking with Baines!!

Advice please. 2FTs and 0.6m in bank. What would you do with this team?

Begovic (FUL) - Foster (sun + inj)
Rafael (QPR) - Baines (NOR) - Gorkss (wig) - Nelsen (mun) - Demel (tot)
Fellaini (sus) - Mata (MCI) - Bale (WHU) - Santi (avl) - Sterling (swa)
RvP (QPR) - Ba (sou) - Bervatov (stk)

It's very tempting to go for an in form front 7 or 8 but if your team balance gets screwed in the process you will suffer.

    Santi on the bench ****

Midfield is Santi/Fellani/Mata/Sterling/Nolan. Plan to sell Baines and Nolan to get Gerrard/Silva (which one, Gerrard and Liverpool doing OK...) plus Def up to 5.7 (maybe Cuellar)

Front 3 Berb/RVP/Suarez (captained Suarez this week otherwise would have been much worse....)

Still down on the week, played Nolan ahead of Santi...

    Damn, Damn and Blasted!!!!
