The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    This week:

    Next week:

    Baines > Mertesacker
    Nolan > Silva

Both are really good options. I would't sell Tevez for Suarez but I would buy Suarez in preference. He will at the end of the day play every game and the same cannot be said of Tevez (although he has held up very well so far and lets hope it continues)

I don't think there are very many players you could class as fixture proof entirely. Maybe the very top forwards like RVP. Even then they will never score as many points against the top sides

I felt like that last week. I think the trick is when that happens is don't panic. All the players you have are good or you wouldn't have bought them. They will probably do better next week. Hold firm and refuse to spend your points in making drastic changes.

chill out and dnt worry too much
in gw 4 i had 1 assist in my team and no goals
4 transfers later and 2 weeks (4pts hit only) i was scoring 81
      now im 2.5k rank
forget about 1 off results and look at the fixtures and select based on that
no point in chasing last weeks results
      hints about the big hitters
suarez is doing good up front on his own so should have him
mancity striker will always be a rotation risk, a security there is silva
carzola is playing a bit too deep for my liking these days, there is a lot of hype about how good he is but in fantasy terms it ddsnt translate that well so u cna do without
      giroud is a new differnetial

Just follow the players that are rising quickly for now, having decided who are 'must keep' players in your current line up. Hopefully you can catch a few 0.2 rises to give you a few 0.1 gains in real terms - then decide on your team next saturday.

I would give Jelavic one more week. I think Fellaini is the Everton player to ditch. Not sure who for though. Walcott is a great option but you look a touch short for him.

i brought in felliani before reading – he now is booked

i brought in mata before swansea game – since then he aint played a game, been rested in another and got a shittty assist in another.

i brought in baines – since i brought him in, he has done fucck all too.

brought in ba before west brom game - he has been in and out of injury since then and price has gone down

so i thought id bring in suarez – next week be ready for a 1pter and suspension

    Currently have:
    Begovic (Rudd)
    Gorks Nelsen Rafael Clyne Cuellar
    Bale Caz Haz Fell Sterling
    Ba RVP Berba

Have 2FT with 0 in the bank.
Thinking of doing Haz > Silva for the coming week before Haz’s price falls even further and before Silva’s price rises. Any other suggestions for the team?
I got Haz for 9.8. When I try to sell him though, I only get 9.8 in return? Shouldn’t I be receiving the average of what I got him for and what he is valued at now?

    Which combo is better:

    A) Nelsen, gorkss, puncheon, mata, silva

    B) baines, McCauley, taarabt, Morrison, michu

Bearing in mind that A would lead to a defence of Rafael, demel, Davies, gorkss and Nelsen!

I really don't understand these player value changes. How Fellaini's price is already gone 0,1m up this week when 14300 have got rid of him and only 8500 have "purchased" him.

So, there's very little positives at the moment to take from my Tevez to Berb(c) move for a hit ....except if Berb gets me 13 pts, which would leave me up on the deal and with a cheaper striker and money for Silva.

(I'd have captained RVP if I'd have not got Berb in)

one of the key factors is that berb has the bet shots in the box stats in recent weeks and sunderland concede the most away.....This could still work out for me, but going to be a nervous afternoon. RVP's 2pt was a blessing in disguise as he would have been my captain.

This season I've made loads of mistakes getting rid of premium players before they score big....I'm being a little more cautious with some of my others from now on...lessen learned from Tevez.

Where I have done better this season is in the cheaper players...got Sterling back when he was 4.5 and Shorey is my latest cheap buy (4.1m)...already proving great value with assist potential.

I agree, that is harsh. I would not have taken out Tevez this week, but then my Cazorla to Silva move looked pretty stupid at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon! What happened with Tevez (and indeed with Cazorla and Silva) was not to be anticipated. I too gave Berb the armband--and I could have given it to Suarez--so I am counting on Berb to pull this out for me.

    Rafael, Rangel, Cuellar
    Caz, Bale(VC), Morrison, Maloney,

I think that's a big risk. Arsenal have been shit and struggled against 11 men yesterday.

Baines is probably out for me next week.

You could argue all you like that he's worth and all the potential points he can gain you. But when you can downgrade to a decent 5-6m and upgrade a midfielder then it just doesn't make sense to keep him. Nor is it much fun owning him. I'd much rather own the likes of Silva than have Baines. Budget defence is really the way to go.

Yes, he is a peno taker. But Everton are so poor defensively lately and the odd assist or goal is not really looking that attractive to me if it means I can get the likes of Silva instead in midfield.

This is the team I can have by next week without Baines...

      Cazorla Mata Silva Fellaini Sterling
      RVP Ba Berbatov

      That midfield outweighs Baines.

I just can't stand Everton's lack of defensive qualities. I don't think I really get much satisfaction from owning expensive midfielders...ever! I loved at the start of the season having West ham defenders, cheap as chips. And they were exceeding expectations. That stuff is so satisfying. Having Baines is about as fun as knocking your face against a brick wall.

You see, I disagree. I was someone who had patience with Santi. Because of his form and quality. Baines has no form because he can't have form. He's a defender. His form depends on his teams ability to defend as a whole. And they are doing an horrendous job of it. If they get the odd penalty that's great. But I just don't see it as that worth it.

Agree with your reasoning. I am hanging on because my plans do nit require selling him at the moment. I also want to give him a little bit more rope because his stats and role as peno taker mean an explosion could happen any week. CS+peno+assist+baps and you have 18 points.

Going to keep Felliani and lose Baines now I think. I need Silva in. Thinking Baines > Cuellar and Noble > Silva look good moves both fixture and hopefully form wise, also gets rid of Noble as bench fodder and gives me this, for -4 worth doing? Only worry is defence is cheap but cs currently few n far between!

    Cuellar Hangeland Gorkks Cameron

    Mata Bale Silva

    Begovic - Foster
    Baines - Gibbs - Cuellar - Nelsen - Simpson
    Bale - Mata - Cazorla - Pienaar - Sterling
    Suarez – Ba – Berbatov

Will use my FT this week to get rid of Gibbs for Wilkinson
    and next week:

    A) Pienaar + Ba -> Morisson + Tevez
    or
    B) Pienaar + Sterling -> Silva + Puncheon

Which one would you pick ?

    thx

Depends on if you plan to hang on to Michu once he is suspended. If not I would save one of your freebies to be poised to deal with that. Just Foster to Ruddy and you are ready. If you plan to keep Michu, even if both he and Suarez are suspended at the same time, then your plan makes sense.

What do you think of this team.....seems poor enough. Made a mistake and knee-jerked Cazorla out for Walcott last night!

    Bego - Foster
    Mertesacker - Hughes - Cuellar - Gorkks - Fonte
    Mata - Fellaini - Sterling - Walcott - Lallana
    RVP - Ba - Suarez
