The Weekend Team News

Philippe Coutinho is back for Liverpool’s trip to the Emirates after recovering from a shoulder injury. Robert Snodgrass remains a doubt for Norwich’s visit to City, Pablo Osvaldo may return for Southampton at Stoke, Sam Allardyce expects James Tomkins to take his place against Aston Villa, who have concerns over Gabby Agbonlahor, while Arsene Wenger hopes Mathieu Flamini could be back for next weekend’s trip to Old Trafford:

Chris Hughton has a number of concerns in midfield ahead of Norwich’s trip to City. The Canaries boss will continue to monitor Robert Snodgrass after he was knocked unconscious and stretchered off at United in midweek after a clash of heads. Nathan Redmond is also a doubt after picking up a problem in the same game and Alex Tettey is set to be sidelined for the Etihad clash:

“We’ll see on Robert, we’ll make sure we make the right decision. We know what the facts are – he was released late on Tuesday night and he’s fine, but we need to make sure he’s recovered sufficiently. Nathan felt a muscle just above his right hip, so we just have to see how that recovers over the next couple of days. There’s a doubt over both of them, but we’re not ruling either of them out. Alex will be out though. He took a whack to an area just above his ankle, and we’ll find out over the next couple of days how long that injury will be but we don’t expect it to be a short time.”

Philippe Coutinho has handed Brendan Rodgers a major boost ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal. The Brazilian will return to the squad for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in Gameweek 4 and could be handed the role in “the hole” behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, while at the back, Jose Enrique remains a doubt, according to his manager:

“Jose will be a question mark for the weekend, but Coutinho is great. He’s been given the all clear by the specialist to come in. He’s been training for the last few weeks, so he’ll come back into the squad.”

Southampton could be set to welcome back Pablo Osvaldo and Steven Davis for tomorrow’s trip to Stoke. The pair missed out last week, allowing Rickie Lambert and James Ward-Prowse a chance to return to the XI, but Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic they could be ready for the Britannia:

“Osvaldo and Steven Davis are better from last week, but again, they need to be evaluated today and tomorrow and we still need to see if they will be able to travel with us on Saturday.”

Sam Allardyce expects James Tomkins to recover from a knock picked up at Burnley in midweek, though the Hammers boss has revealed Matt Taylor is sidelined for the visit of Villa tomorrow. The recent 4-6-0 formation looks likely to continue as the forward line is hit hard with injuries – Andy Carroll remains out, Mladen Petric is hampered with a calf complain, Ricardo Vaz Te has suffered a dislocated shoulder, while Carlton Cole is still not fit enough to start a match, as Allardyce revealed to the club’s official website:

“Matt Taylor is definitely out, James Tomkins I think will be ok and the rest of the injured players will not figure in Saturday’s squad against Villa. It leaves us with quite a big problem in terms of numbers. We’re very short of first team squad players available for Saturday so it’s about getting on with the job and using the players we’ve got available and making sure they try and bring us the three points at home that we’re looking for….He’s (Carlton Cole) not quite ready for a Premier League start. He played on Tuesday night and that’s the equivalent of game three of his pre-season, game three of pre-season for us was Boreham Wood not Burnley away.”

Villa also have concerns for the showdown with Allardyce’s side, though. Paul Lambert rolled out an injury update yesterday afternoon and revealed Antonio Luna is set to be sideline with the hamstring injury that forced him off at the break last weekend – fellow left-back Joe Bennett is a doubt, though, with Ciaran Clark looking the likeliest to deputise, with Nathan Baker (3.9 in FPL) retaining the slot alongside Ron Vlaar in the heart of defence. Lambert also has concerns over Gabby Agbonlahor, with Aleksandar Tonev perhaps set for a second consecutive start as the visitors look to address a run which has seen them fail to score in the last three:

“Gabby is a doubt. His ankle has not really recovered from when he first got it injured. Antonio is struggling with his hamstring at the minute. He’ll be a few weeks out. Joe Bennett has a sore back at the minute so we’ll see how he is.”

Arsene Wenger reckons Mathieu Flamini could make a quick return from the groin problem sustained against Palace last weekend and is hopeful the central midfielder may be in the frame for next week’s trip to United. The Gunners boss has ruled youngster Serge Gnabry out of contention to face Liverpool tomorrow evening, though.

Reports in the local press indicate both Robbie Brady and Sone Aluko are rated “less than 50-50” to be fit for Hull’s home game against Sunderland, while Alex Bruce joins Allan McGregor and James Chester on the sidelines for the Tigers.

Alan Pardew has confirmed Fabricio Coloccini is almost certainly out of Newcastle’s home game against Chelsea, while Steven Taylor is believed to have suffered a setback to a hamstring problem and may not return until after the international break. With Paul Dummett also out due to a hamstring injury, the Magpies are down to the bare bone as Chelsea roll up to St Hames’ Park tomorrow:

“Colo’s running outside. I think Colo’s got a chance for Spurs, but I don’t think he’s got a chance for this weekend. Tayls is a bit further behind.”

West Brom boss Steve Clarke was somewhat non-committal ahead of an enticing home showdown with Palace. The Baggies boss would only by say:

“In terms of availability, our squad will not be too dissimilar to last weekend.”

Fantasy owners of Morgan Amalfitano will be hoping of further insight into his availability after the Frenchman was subbed off in last week’s defeat by Liverpool – assistant head-coach Kevin Keen admitted on Wednesday there’s a chance the right midfielder may not be fit in time for the home clash against Palace, with James Morrison poised to deputise.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Not for me, no way. Liverpool's fixtures (and form) are far better than Man Utd's. I'm looking to shift Rooney next week unless this weekend's performances sway me.

Everyone says no here, except Blues seems to have a gut instinct that Roo will rip it up. Go with your gut....but don't do the reversal move next week. Just make the full move or not. Rooney is captain material this week.

    Just checking my team order.

    Is everything set?

    Vorm
    Vidic Clyne Terry
    Michu Ravel Ramsey Brady
    RVP(vc) Suarez Aguero(c)

    xx Barkley Dawson Burner

Should i change the order of Brady Barkley Dawson in any way?
Should i change vice to Robin?
    Anything else?

I shall laugh (or maybe cry) and all Suarez (c) this week

I think that united are finally starting to win games and gain momentum.. theres where u can gain the points from him, might not be worth the extra price atm but still hes like suarez/aguero, big point hauls can come anytime

    Player Goal Involvement
Just thought it might be interesting

Player ----- Goals - Assists - PpG - Goal Involvement ( Minutes Per Goal Involvement )

    Suarez ----- 6 - 2 - 11.5 PpG - 51 Minutes per GI
    Aguero ----- 7 - 4 - 8.8 PpG - 65 Minutes per GI
    Lukaku ----- 5 - 1 - 8.2 PpG - 69 Minutes per GI
    Studge ----- 8 - 2 - 7.4 PpG - 80.8 Minutes per GI
    Remy ----- 5 - 1 - 7.3 PpG - 81.7 Minutes per GI
    Ramsey --- 5 - 4 - 7.1 PpG - 82.4 Minutes per GI
    Giroud ------ 5 - 5 - 6.6 PpG - 86. Minutes per GI
    Silva ------ 2 - 3 - 5.6 PpG - 101.2 Minutes per GI

Between Giroud and Silva, there is Dzeko and Negredo but didn't bother putting them up there.
Silva's Goal Involvement rate is quite interesting. I'd have thought it'd be fairly high. Maybe he's assisting the assister quite a bit?
Loic Remy could be a real nice differential when their fixtures loosen up come GW 12. His stats would be better if Pardew moves him back to a central role as well.
Would be the prefect Lukaku replacement, after Everton play CPL , followed by a tough run. NOR at home for the Toons, the GW after Everton play CPL.
Creds to Plindex, for the GI numbers

Rooney's better in these areas: long range passing, vision, defensive duties, strength, long range shots, pace, playmaking, making runs to help team mates.

RVP is better in these areas: Finishing, movement in behind and in front of the defence, agile, volleys.

Rooney's advantages over RVP are not those of a striker - more of a CAM/CM - but they add to the fact he is still a strong finisher and can take some great shots, this is why he is the better overall player.

However, RVP's is a much much better finisher than Rooney and is much much better in getting in the right places and making the right runs to score. Perfect example is his goal against Swansea where Giggs chipped it over the defence to him. Those are the qualities that a striker's level of skill is defined by.

That goal against Sawnsea is everything but RVPs skill..terible defending
RVP is not more agile than Rooney,he dont have better volleys..and volleys are finishing
RVP dont have right foot,he maybe use it for steping in the car,but almost doesnt use it on pitch
And he CANT DRIBLLE PAST 1 defender, and surely not 2 or more

This is my 3rd season and I have never owned him..
But thats not the point..I was watching almost every game Utd played last season..and he was really good in some games, but big procent of his fantasy points was lucky, and of course those 3 bps which he gets before game cause he miss a sitter and shoot on target, directly at gk...but it was shoot on target........
But the point is,he can be top scorer in this season too but that doesnt make him great player
He is not in top 30 players in the world and surely not in top 3

you are kidding urself..... we rate him not because of the points but because of the amazing goals he score.. you said u are watching almost every game utd played and still don't rate him, you are probably the one that biased against him not us.

he is certainly not top 3 players in the world.. but certainly can make top 3-5 strikers in our league. its a harsh reality.. as a striker its certainly most important to put the ball in the net, who cares how easy it is... he has done it, how many strikers in our league can do it ?

Silva has been lovingly stroking my skippers armband all week - but there is still time for a certain one of my forwards to bite it off him.....

not sure of the etiquette here, but i hope you don't you mind.
this is the first season where i've used this forum, and i'm very much finding my feet. i don't feel i'm getting much out of it really, but i'm certainly not contributing much either.
i've paid, so i want to persevere.
a couple of questions to help me get my bearings with regards my peers.

1 - how many games do you watch each gw?
    a - 1
    b - 2 or 3
    c - 4>
    d - all 10 every week

2 - how old are you
    a - teens
    b - 20s
    c - 30s
    d - 40>

I'm 1c and 2c. I watch Aljazeera (i find andy gray pretty trying) but when i'm in the uk i stand in the warwick rd at brunton park. i have a soft spot for 90s indie. i support thfc. my it skills are week.

I'm thinking to get Giroud (selling price 9.1m now) out soon, who to replace for him?

    A) Giroud --> Aguero (Have to downgrade Michu to a 6.6 and below mid)
    B) Giroud --> Lukaku (Frees up cash)
    C) Stick
    D) Others (please mention)

Will Suarez rise in price tonight?? Going to swap him with Rooney after tomorrow but have no margin for error price wise.

Going to wildcard to this team... any guidance welcomed.

    Boruc Speroni
    Touré Ward Coleman Vlaar Terry
    Morrison Januzaj Michu Ramsey Oscar
    Agüero Rooney Benteke

Haha, I see it now, when reading closely. However, it is unclear
          a) which way the Suarez-Rooney swap is going
          b) you list the team you are WCing to - a team without Suarez.
          So that explains my question.

No worries. My head is fried with the draft WC teams could have explained it better!

Reckon I can afford the delay with Suarez as tough fixture v Arsenal and fancy Rooney against Fulham more.
