Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scores twice as Arsenal see off a stubborn Palace at the Emirates. The Gunners defence brings home the points again with an eleventh clean sheet of the campaign. Daniel Sturridge nets for Liverpool as Luis Suarez serves up a single assist, whilst Victor Anichebe benefits from Kolo Toure’s mistake to level matters at the Hawthorns:

Ozil Overshadowed Yet Again as Oxlade-Chamberlain Bags a Brace
The youngster hogged the headlines in his first start since Gameweek 1 yesterday. Handed a central role alongside Mikel Arteta due to Mathieu Flamini’s suspension and injuries to both Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain leapt onto Fantasy radars by notching both the Gunners’ goals in the 2-0 cruise over Palace. Price at 6.7, he’s certainly budget-friendly, whilst a 0.8% ownership also highlights his differential appeal but, with so many versatile midfield options at his disposal, Arsene Wenger may well look to rotate as the schedule picks up pace – his decision to shift Santi Cazorla right in order to accommodate Luka Podolski on the opposite flank is a case in point. Arsenal travel to Anfield next weekend before hosting United, Liverpool and Bayern in three successive home games across all competitions and, given that the youngster has only just cemented his full fitness, snapping him up still remains a real punt.

Yesterday’s 2-0 win is likely to persuade many Fantasy managers to part company with Mesut Ozil, though. Whilst the German’s influence on his side is undeniable, it’s failing to translate to tangible Fantasy returns – Ozil has assisted just two of Arsenal’s 14 goals over his last seven appearances and, priced at 10.0, is offering little value for money at a time when many mid-price options are delivering points aplenty. With some eyeing up a move for Robin van Persie, getting rid of the off-form Ozil may well be the favoured move in order to free up cash for the United frontman ahead of next week’s home game with Fulham.

Another Clean Sheet for the Gunners
The 2-0 win helped Arsenal chalk up their eleventh shut-out of the season and extended an outstanding Emirates record that has seen them concede just once in the last seven in front of their own fans. Wojciech Szczesny has now moved 13 points clear at the top of the keeper standings on 109 points – a tally beaten by only two defenders, Seamus Coleman and team-mate Per Mertesacker. Elsewhere at the back, Laurent Koscielny seems to have developed a penchant for delivering bonus points with clean sheets – he’s now earned two bonus points in each of the last four shut outs, whereas Mertesacker has picked up bonus in just two of those games.

Pulis Freshens up Defence
Joel Ward’s stint in central midfield looks over after Kagisho Dikgacoi returned from injury yesterday. The 4.2-priced defender returned to his normal right-back berth, which ended a run of eight successive starts for Adrian Mariappa (4.0) under Tony Pulis, whilst Dean Moxey immediately dropped back to the bench to accommodate the fit-again Jonny Parr. It seems that, providing the Eagles manager has a fully-fit squad to choose from, Ward and Parr are the preferred full-back options.

Sturridge’s Scoring Streak Continues
It’s five goals in four appearances since returning from injury for the Liverpool forward. Transferred in by over 194,000 Fantasy Premier League managers as a result of Sergio Aguero’s injury last week, Sturridge’s stock rose further after he notched the opener in a disappointing draw at the Hawthorns. With maximum bonus also accrued, he moved up to 115 points, or fourth top amongst forwards – all the more impressive given that he missed eight games due to an ankle problem. Sturridge now leads Luis Suarez by 38 points to 34 over the last four, strengthening the case for acquiring both in our three-man frontlines. Granted, a home clash with Arsenal is far from straightforward next but Sturridge’s relentless consistency (a goal or assist in 13 of his 16 appearances) bodes well for would-be suitors. Additionally, with Fulham, Swansea, Southampton and Sunderland in the subsequent four, both Liverpool frontmen are likely to plunder the points once again.

Toure Blunder Costs Reds Dearly
The Reds looked on course to register back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since Gameweek 3 but a dreadful mistake from the Ivorian allowed Victor Anichebe to fire past Simon Mignolet and clinch a point for the hosts . Not only did Toure’s error deprive Liverpool of the win, it extended a dreadful defensive run on the road which has harvested a single shut-out in their last 11 away matches. With Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger and Jose Enrique still sidelined, it leaves Martin Skrtel as the only first-choice option available at the back for Brendan Rodgers – hardly encouraging for the Merseysiders as Arsenal roll up to Anfield next weekend.

Mel Still Tinkering for the Baggies
Three games into his tenure at the Hawthorns and it’s clear the West Brom boss is far from certain over his first-choice XI. Mel made five changes from the side that were beaten 4-3 at Villa in midweek – whilst James Morrison and Nicolas Anelka missed out through injury, Diego Lugano and Steven Reid dropped out of defence and Zoltan Gera came in for Victor Anichebe further up the pitch. The Nigerian’s leveller certainly gives his manager food for thought ahead of next weekend’s trip to Palace, whilst Lugano also looks set for a return to the starting line-up after Mel confirmed Jonas Olsson is ruled out of the Selhurst Park showdown after being forced off early in yesterday’s stalemate. So far, Olsson is one of just four outfield players, along with Liam Ridgewell, Claudio Yacob and Chris Brunt, to start all three games under their new manager.

    LONG POST ALERT

For those who like me are considering a striker, here is why you shouldn't bring in Dzeko or Negredo.
Looking at the run of fixtures City have,

Sat 08 February (A) Norwich City BPL
Wed 12 February (H) Sunderland BPL
Sat 15 February (H) Chelsea FA Cup
Tue 18 February (H) FC Barcelona UCL
Sat 22 February 2014 (H) Stoke City BPL

It is almost certain that their FPL assets will be subject to rest and rotation. Most of the people out here already have Silva or Yaya and doubling up will complicate matters even more. I know the fixtures are tempting and that City could easily score quite a few against the upcoming opponents, but take into account that investing in too many of their assets come with a great deal of high risk. Also factor in that after GW27(i.e the Stoke game) , City have two possible blanks coming up. So bringing in a player this week only to remove him the week after would be in my opinion,a waste of a transfer.

Looking at the other options in the same price bracket at Dzeko and Negredo, here are some of the options that appeal to me

    - Sturridge
Nailed on.14 goals in the last 16 appearances. Remarkable consistency. After the Arsenal game(dont discount him scoring even in that one) , he has Ful(A) Swa(H) and Sou(A)

    - Benteke
Nailed on.Seems to have found his way back to form. No shots in the previous game against Everton was alarming . Still chipped in with an assist to make up for it though. He has Whu(H) Car(A) New(A) and Nor(H) coming up.

    -Lambert
Nailed on now that Osvaldo has left. Got a 15 point haul this week. Has penalties which is why I picked him over JRod as more or less both have the same price. He has Sto(H) Hul(A) Whu(A) Liv(H) coming up

Most importantly, all 3 will play when Negredo/Dzeko blank in gw28. My personal option is Sturridge because of fixtures and consistency. Most would argue Benteke is a better choice but keep in mind Villa are a counter-attacking team that play better away from home. Hope this helped you make your mind up.Cheers from a Man City fan!

I made the mistake of not doubling up with Sturridge this week and paying for it. Got Rooney in who was very disappointing. U reckon the theory of not getting 2 strikers from the same team is flawed??

All depends on which team if they score well & the two assist eachother.
Banana skins like a single goal still scored well for both.

Reckon the theory is generally right, but with so many FF theories there's always an exception or two. Tbh Sturridge's form has me thinking about dropping Suarez and getting RVP maybe.

When everyone already has Sturridge it hardly matters. Just pick whoever will score the most points per game, whoever has the best fixtures and whoever is nailed on to start most games.

Currently, that is Sturridge by mile!

I've had Yaya all along so delighted with that as my sole City cover. As for Arsenal there are so many options and anyone can come up with points any week that I'm not confident having anyone in particular so going with those I know I can kind of trust each week.

Have a front line of Hazard, Yaya, Mata, Lallana, Puncheon, Suarez, Sturridge and Benteke. Chuffed.

+1. Something to (maybe) consider if I had 2 FTs. I don't, so I'd much rather save. If LFC was playing away from home, I'd be more tempting, but they are at Anfield.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Emerging differentials

This weekend saw a trio of emerging differentials to further shake up the template.

The three that caught my eye were Zaha, Oxlade Chamberlain and Lambert.

While most have Lallana or Rodriguez, Lambert offers penalties as well into the mix. I'll wager few of your mini league rivals had considered him,

Oxlade Chamberlain slotted in as Ramsey 2.0 and excelled.

Zaha - Solskjaer brought him on to change the game. He duly delivered. While defensively he is suspect, going forward he looks like becoming a favourite at Cardiff and a really good cheap source of points as fixtures get kinder for Cardiff.

Are you tempted by any of the above? What other emerging differentials appeal to you?

Ox will be rotating with Wilshere in CM.

Lambert certainly caught my eye. Pens, freekicks, and central striker in a Saints team with great fixtures. At only 7m could be worth a punt for the next 3 games.

Not sure Jonty. Think Noone will be my fifth mid, no room for Zaha. But I agree he looks promising, Ole knows how to get the best of young talented players.

Ox.. At that price he sure is tempting, but only have room to change one of my mids - and that looks to be AJ -> Lallana.

Oddly enough..speaking of Lambert and Zaha..repost from the bottom of the last article..

A front line of RVP Lambert Suarez..and Silva and Navas for their tasty fixtures in midfield...All those in favour stick your hand up....o/

The makeweight for Navas was also to bring in Zaha for some nice home games....

I want to transfer out Janu as he became a bench warmer since Rooney and Rvp returns (+ Mata).

Sellin Price for Janu : 5,2

    Best option :

    A) Zaha

Mirallas, Mata, Mirallas, next 3 GW in this order.

This is one expensive team, your TV must be immense. But, I would still rather downgrade one midfielder and have better defence. You will have hard time to field 2 defenders with strong fixture pretty much each of next 3-4 GW.

Im thinking Robert Snodgrass @ 5.9 could be a decent low-mid price midfielder after the City game and up until GW 34

HIs underlying stats has been very good last two fixtures including touches and shots in the box being high, admittedly against weak opposition.

    Fixtures:
whm TOT avl STO sot SUN swa WBA ful

Could be a savvy investment, only issue really is that Norwich are crap so of course its a risk.

Been bangin on about the snoddy bus for a while now.. Considering Norwich's season ends GW 34(check fixtures after) they need points NOW!! He is a great option. wish he was priced 0.5 cheaper though.. he's price makes him difficult to own as a 5th mid and too inconsistent as a 4th mid. That run from the STK game is when i'll be gettin him

And for a reason. Their good fixtures that have continued since November should serve for a warning that there might not be much points there all despite favourable fixtures.

After last City match (Nov 2), counting out the clearly unfavourable matches, they have got 10 in which you'd imagine playing a Norwich player:

WHA, new, CPA, wba, SWA, sun, FUL, cpa, HUL, NEW, car.

They've managed to keep 5 clean sheets (one very lucky at home against Cabaye-less Newcastle), scoring 13 in the process, of which 5 in 3 November fixtures, leaving just 8 for last 7 favourable fixtures. Snodgrass has scored 2+1 in these fixtures, more precisely against WHA, HUL and car.

In addition, they played Fulham twice in the cup, conceding in both (4 combined) and scoring just one.

Just to warn that they've already got very favourable fixtures and results have still been crap. And when they have a bad fixture, you want to avoid playing them (especially their defence) at all costs.

I would rather wait until they've played at Spurs. For that short stint, they have good fixtures and may be worth investment. There must be some goals there somewhere, and Snodgrass should get reasonably well involved, so yeah, it can be worth it.

Currently steering clear of them as they are crap and have bad fixtures.

Tough one between Mirallas and Punchie. Either way I'd definitely have Mirallas ahead of Collins on the bench. I'd also pick Suarez (c) over Hazard any day of the week.

Yeah it's a tough one. I'd like to put Mirallas ahead of Collins but Evans picked up that injury against Stoke :s. So who should start? Puncheon or Mirallas?
Regarding captain, I picked Mirallas over Suarez and it worked out. I feel in my gizzard Hazard will play well!

So? If Evans is out Collins gets subbed on even if Mirallas is ahead of him.

Always go with your gut 🙂

As Snodders seem to be a hot pick today. The current midfield ICT threat table for the past four weeks for consideration, on top of his goal and an assist in his last three...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/4382/

Good post about City strikers before and there being a good chance that 1 or both of Negredo/Dzeko miss at least one of the next 3 PL games.

Do we think the same is the for the midfielders?

    I'm either doing

    A) Ozil -> Yaya (Bony -> Lambert next week), or

    B) Ozil -> Lallana (Bony -> Sturridge next week)

And am a little worried Yaya could also be set for a rest in the easier PL games....

Yes. Collins will probably be on the bench.
