We delve into the data offered up by Saturday and Sunday’s 10 fixtures this evening. Newcastle’s weekend goal hero, Villa’s foraging frontman and Liverpool’s talismanic South American are all under analysis, while we also cast an eye over a trio of midfield playmakers plying their trade at United, Swansea and Tottenham:
The important one is tomorrow. No, not the West Ham game 😉
Open ControlsMost people have 4+ players in the other game though.

Dropped to 174th with 110, but have 11 to go. Bloody Dzeko over Lukaku is going to cost me dearly. Damn my hedging of bets.
Open ControlsI scored 124 🙂 / 11 to play - subs not really much good this week ?
Unlucky mate , I'm up to 113 th and 3rd in the LWR ,
I've just noticed I've gone 5 points agead of you so it's massively tight around the place
432 = 113
427 = 174 !!!!!

If you change one rule in football what would it be?
For me I would introduce video refs in the same way it is used in rugby. The ref can consult the video ref and ask any question he wants at any time. Time would he stopped whilst this question is asked. The ref would then award his decision given the video refs advice.Open ControlsDefinitely. It gives unfair advantage to the team that plays at home first. It is only made worse by UEFA by pre-determining the group winners to play away first.
Open Controls
Yellow Cards are 10 minutes on the sideline (ala Rugby).
Open ControlsThis. If a player gets a suspension in the following game, his next opponent will benefit, and his current opponent gets nothing.
Open ControlsAgree, it would cut out the diving as well, players wouldn't risk it half as much.
The other side to this argument is that a 10 minute sin bin in football would be a lot more of a punishment than it is in Rugby. (less players, more space to exploit, more pace)Open ControlsNo sweat. We have seen lots of teams playing with 10 men even for almost the entire game and still get results, so 10 minutes in sin bin would be fair. I think it's an appropriate immediate punishment for diving rather than a Yellow.
Open ControlsWhat if a GK gets a yellow? a CB has to put on gloves for 10 minutes? 😉
Open ControlsServes the team well! 😀 That's why we need a 3rd card. Hm, never understand why goalkeepers sometimes get YC when he pulls a striker down, should always be a straight red to me.
Open ControlsGood point.
Open ControlsSame situation as when a front row forward gets sin binned in rugby. There is a substitution which is reversed at end of the 10 min period. I don't think it is feasible in football. In rugby yellow cards are relatively rare and as mentioned above do not affect the game as much. Could end up with a situation of 7 v 7.
Open Controls
On the other hand, that would also probably result in more goals.
Open Controls
Agree on this one. This is Platini's argument, isn't it? It holds completely. I have always seen it unfair that it is the next opponent who gets all the benefits from suspension and possible cautious playing in fear of suspension.
Open ControlsLe Professeur's as well 😉
Open Controls
I agree, thats a very good point
Open Controls
I like this as well
Open Controls
Sendings off for trivial second yellows..even worse when it comes on the back of a trivial first yellow...shocking.
Open ControlsThis could be video refereed easily.
Open Controls
Don't know that I'd change a thing. I'm strongly against video refs and any kind of technology entering into the game, not sure I like the Hawkeye system even.
Open ControlsThe hawk eye system is great, it's instant and accurate. Why have totally unnecessary frustrations and controversy?
Open ControlsIt's a great system, and yes, it's instant and accurate. It's just so clinical and boring though, I feel the heat-of-the-moment human decisions and sometimes controversy is part of the game. I dunno, I just think Hawkeye has made football just a tiny bit more boring.
Open ControlsHawkeye is also the first step in removing decision power from the refs and putting it on technology. Then as many mention, next up is video ref-ing, laser offsides, whatever. Nothing's going to happen overnight, but I feel a step in that direction is a step in the wrong direction. Politically correct, just, fair; maybe. More entertaining? Don't see it.
Open ControlsBeen the wrong side of 2 many with spurs and England. Can't remember benefitting and I don't like winning controversially anyway - better than losing of course 🙂
Open Controls😀 I hear that. Well if you want it to be fair for your own benefit (i.e. you think England or Spurs will do better and that it doesn't even out long-term) then that's a different motivation. Thinking about the game itself and its entertainment value I think Hawkeye and more technology is a step in the wrong direction.
Open ControlsEngland has been benefiting side of refereeing mistakes much more often, it's just that you only remember the cases when you don't benefit as injustice and take the cases when you benefit as just a part of the game.
Open Controls
I would introduce retrospective bans for diving, would cut it out in weeks
Open Controlsvideo refs would sort that also.
Open ControlsMy issue with video refs is that it would slow the game down like it does for rugby but yes would solve the blatant diving problem
Open ControlsMight slow it down but what the harm - justice would be done on the day
Open ControlsWouldn't slow it down any more than a crowd of players surrounding the ref arguing the toss for five minutes. Less in fact imo Zan.
Open ControlsFair point that ILF
Open ControlsDepends, it will definitely slow down the game and even completely kill it if:
1. you give ref an opportunity to check from video ref at any moment, not just in well specified rare cases.
2. you stop the clock during video refereeing.
If that happens, I will stop watching football.Open Controls
The slowing down is exactly what I fear too. Video refereeing should be introduced with a lot of caution if it was at all.
Open Controls
+1
Open Controls
Video Refs and scrap the away goals rule.
Open ControlsAgree with you Demel if it could only be one, it would be this one.
Open ControlsHarsher treatment of time wasting. Drives me crazy when they kick the ball away. Would lead counter attack plays more often.
Great question by the wayOpen Controls+1
Open Controls
Absolutely no time stopping. I understand where rugby and armegg fans are coming from, but running clock is one of the most important features of football that keeps it living and fluid, not a lot of waiting and all action concentrated on set pieces.
I do support video referees, but for only very few cases so that it would not take too much time. I'd say only in situations where the game was stopped anyway, so in red cards, penalties, goals. Anytime a ref gives penalty, red card or goal and he was in doubt, he would be able to ask from the video referee to check if the call was right. That would cut diving inside the box as well as play acting to get opponent a red card, as refs would likely ask that almost always and sanction the diving player.
On the other hand, in the opposite case, if ref was not already awarding penalty or goal or generally not stopping the play would not be checked. So video referee only when game is already stopped and it is a serious incident, either sending off, penalty or goal. If you introduce video ref at any moment, football will be ruined.Open ControlsOn-field referee must consult video referee before awarding yellow card, red card, penalty, offside and goal.
Video referee retains the right to stop play by instructing on-field referee in case something (card offense, goal, penalty) goes unnoticed.
Team captains can ask for video-ref maximum three times in a game - if needed.Open ControlsToo much video refereeing. That would kill the game completely. Especially parts of captains asking video refereeing and video referee intervening without request.
Referee cannot consult a video referee before he awards something, only after he has already awarded it in order to check it. The game would be god awful if the ref would be chatting with video ref every second moment and then suddenly stop the game to call it back for an incident in the other end of the pitch. Only when he is already sure enough to stop the game should he be allowed (and perhaps required) to ask from a video referee.Open ControlsThen what if he misses a legitimate red card offense or a legitimate goal?
It would not be as miuch intervention as it seems. In majority cases, the video ref wouldn't intervene - there would be no need for it. Captains asking might be too much - but that would help pacify people like Mourinho. 😀Open ControlsThen shit happens. You can't have everything. But the point is that if he is unsure of whether there was a goal or not he will call it a goal and ask from the video ref. If he completely misses it, then that's it.
With the amount of "must consult" that you say the video ref would be ever present in the game. The game would be stopped for video refereeing all the time. Which way you want it with offsides:
1. Referee starts his private chat with video ref while game goes on. Other things happen when he is only half aware, and he then suddenly calls the game back when the video ref has come to conclusion that yes, indeed, there was an offside there. Only now the game has evolved significantly and a lot of other things have happened.
2. Referee stops the game because he thinks there might have been an offside. He then has his chat with the video ref, who looks at it closely and tells, "no offside". Oh shit, what will they do now!? How will the game continue!? How about the goal that they were about to score, should he not have waited instead of stopping the game for offside call?
This is very problematic. It is crucial to keep the video refereeing in the minimum, and if there are some emotions shown on the pitch, well let them be, this is a sport after all, a competition where you'd expect the players and coaches to get heated.Open Controls
If I could change one I would probably agree with you Demel.
But I also think that when someone has stopped a dead certain goal a la Suarez vs Ghana, a goal should be given without the need for a penalty.Open ControlsThose of you who are extremely keen to introduce the video ref, so that he could intervene at any time of the game, or on request by captains or coaches and so on, so that video refereeing would become an ever present feature of the game, tell me, just for curiosity:
do you have background in some other sport (either as watchers or even as having played) where video refereeing is more regular and/or clock is stopped occasionally?Open ControlsI personally dislike video refereeing, it slows the game down and often has the referee second guessing himself and overusing it (as has often happened in Rugby I feel). I dont mind the mistakes as we are all human and some times they go for you and some times they don't... thats life. I just hate in rugby now that every try is sent upstairs for review, killing the momentum of the game.
Open ControlsMy background is in Rugby Union where we had video refs and it in my humble opinion as I stated before slowed the game down and produced sub standard referees
Open Controls
Wonder when Stevie will pick up that yellow.. Doubt he can avoid that ban.
Open ControlsHopefully this week for our sake.

Who are ya'll looking to (c) next GW? Yes it's early and this GW isn't over, but I guess the most of you already have set up your current team for next GW. Spurs can't defend, so are people keeping the armband on Suarez/Sturridge? Rooney home to Villa? Hazard?
Open ControlsGood shout, Everton might be back to scoring ways again and Fulham are dire.
Open ControlsTrouble with lukaku, he rarely scores more than one goal in a game. Low ceiling for a big score.
Open ControlsLast season against ManU...
Open Controls
Morning Don, Suarez for me
Open ControlsSuarez, surely we have all learnt that by now
Open Controls+1
Open Controls27 goals, 21 assists and 38 bonus points. Yes, should've learned that by now, but it's fun to change the (c) every now and then. Home to Spurs, should bag a goal or three, but Hazard away against Palace is really tempting.
Open Controls
As much as I want to captain Lukaku, I will be playing it safe with Suarez.
Open Controlsafter captaining Sturridge this week, I may as well continue the trend and go with a punt..
Open ControlsDon't throw good points after bad
Open ControlsI'm only playing this game for fun, I'm top of a €50 mini league but I didn't expect to win it so I'm just going to play my own game and hope it works out.
Where's the fun in captaining Suarez away to Tottenham to gain absolutely nothing over everyone else, whereas Lukaku(C) scoring a hattrick will give me a massive sense of satisfaction.
Having said that, I don't know what I'm doing for next week.Open ControlsOops, brain fart..
(I did say I have no idea what I'm doing next week 😉 probably will go Suarez though haha)Open ControlsBe Madness not to mate ,
If I were you play it cool IM , you can finish top 1k if you stay focused , the next few week are where the ' winners ' will shine.Open ControlsYeah if there's one thing I've taken from GW31 its that I shouldn't be too smart or greedy and go with a nice mixture of my gut and everyone else's gut feelings of the week, might throw some stats analysis in there too 😉
Not sure about 1k but I'll get my best ever finish anyway 😀
Top 1k next year on the cards 😉Open Controls
Can't take the risk being the leader of a mini-league and it being quite close. Put the armband on him against Cardiff and that didn't pay off so won't be doing it again!
Open ControlsIm leader of my leauge too and ranked 1700
Gotta gamble it buddy. Done it last year and ended up 60th overallOpen Controls
Has Luis Suarez ruined FPL this season for you ?
Is Suarez the ultimate default capt ?
The fire and forget option ?
The when ' if in doubt ' ?
Plays 90 mins and never gets injured (granted the odd ban !)
Unfortunatly bar dgws I ain't taking it off him till the end of season ,
It's a pity as it ruins the game - picking a successful (c) is a huge aspect of the skill involved in FPL ,
But leaving it on Suarez as a default just makes it harder to make up ground , taking the armband off him is close on fatal as most of us have discovered.
I for one can't wait for Suarez to leave for the continent this summer just to get people thinking their (c) choice properly again.Open ControlsIt was the same with RvP last year
Open ControlsIt wasn't the same. He was so darn expensive, everybody didn't have to own him.
Suarez has just become insignificant. Only question is do you captain him or not and even that only occurs rarely, as most of the time everybody captains him. Maybe he hasn't ruined the season, but these factors make the game more boring for sure.Open Controls
Great players don't ruin a game real or fantasy. Still only 50% ownership.
Open ControlsI wouldn't say Suarez has ruined my FPL season at all, he just makes it a bit boring. But in all fairness It's usually like this every year, one player who's guaranteed a decent score no matter who they play. Ronaldo, Van Persie, Suarez etc. etc. High risk high reward though mate, don't you fancy a chance on Rooney/Hazard etc?
Open ControlsIn your case because of an excellant rank , Suarez has only helped your cause if you (c) him most weeks ,
He's the ultimate default choice to protect a high rank and for those chasing (me) it's impossible to make headway and for me anytime I've gone left field I've been punished this season ,
For me the formula this season has been :
Early Wc
Ramsey
Yaya
Coleman
Lallana
Suarez gw 6 (c)Open ControlsThat's The thing. Good rank? Play it safe with Suarez. Chasing? Play it safe with Suarez. Looking for differentials at this stage of The season is hard. What's your ID mate?
Open ControlsHave you fallen away Don ?
For me this has been the difficult season.
http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/743378/history/
( I'm hiding this year , not sure why tbh ! )Open ControlsFallen away?
Such a great rank last year mate.. Bring on next season ey?Open ControlsHats off Don - just had a look at your rank
214 awesome mate !
How far do you feel you can take this ?Open ControlsThanks Eoin, I'm doing this for team Netherlands 😉 I've pretty much won my ML already so I'm just playing for fun to see what's the best rank I can get. Everything is a bonus now, but I for sure will fight to beat my top score of 431 two seasons ago.
Open ControlsCheers mate , I don't see much tournies on these days - real pity !
Stay focused Don , keep doing the simple things well and you can maintain / excel your current position ,
A genuine keep up the good work !
Any quick thoughts on my team and it's current direction ?Open Controls
I can see this logic, he's just been too good compared to the other players... if Aguero and RVP had been firing on all cylinders it might have been more interesting, but he's been streets ahead of everybody. Struggling to remove it from him, especially when he has a home game.
Open ControlsThis is my point ' Streets ahead '
We've never seen this level of consistency.Open ControlsAnd particularly the lack of competition amongst strikers. If we had, as Dogba says, 3-4 strikers scoring 20+ goals, all expensive, we would have to choose between them. But now there's only Suarez, and Studge and Aguero in short stints. Basically, when they're fit, you must be mad not to have SAS with Aguero. So everybody ends up having that. And that significantly reduces difference.
Everybody in my minileague who still has a position where they are actively playing the game has Suarez and Sturridge, for example.Open Controls
At the start of the season ppl are complaining there are no reliable cap and put the case for rvp etc. Now ppl are complaining that suarez is too good. Lol
Open ControlsNot complaining - just making a point , ' Dem de breaks '
What Would you think of an option where you can't (c) the same person 2 weeks running ?Open Controlshaha not saying you but i see quite a few posts b4 about default captaining. no offence.
it would certainly makes a lot of planning as you will have to decide whether to cap suarez this week or the week after...i guess that's y fpl does not want this idea as it will make the game harder for those who do not follow the game closely. it is a very interesting idea though for those who are active playing and i like the idea.
though there may have some problems regarding it like for example if you cap suarez and happen that he did not play a minute in it..then can u still cap him the next gw? or u cannot cap ur VC anymore? i think it will make the game harder to maintainOpen Controls
Has to be Suarez for me, might have done Rooney if I had him.
Open ControlsGlad I kept it on Suarez this GW 😐 Jags expected back, are we gonna get some points back for Coleman/Baines the next 4 games?
Open ControlsI'm glad you did too 😀
I hope so re Everton. Jags back is an obvious bonus for clean sheets.
One big haul from Baines is all I ask for.Open ControlsWhen Baines scored that penalty I smiled. A CS would be very Nice, Coleman and Baines scoring a goal every other week is great, but I'd like some CS points 🙂 Baines still considered a differential because of his price, or what's his % of ownership now?
Open Controls
Suarez.
Open Controls
Suarez or Sturridge to get a higher score vs sunderland?
Open ControlsPraying for Studge.
Open ControlsSame.
Open ControlsHead says Luis though 🙁 this could get worse for us.
Someone tell Rodgers to play 433 😉Open Controls
Will Michu manage 60 mins tonight ?...it'll be good to see him back and playing more.
Open ControlsI was actually looking at him this morning just to see if he was coming back soon, I like him as a player 🙂 love him in fpl.
Hope he hits the ground running.Open ControlsHe better play 90 mins and rack up some points because I have him.
Open ControlsI know, I'm mad.
Open Controls
Who do you think will be the highest scoring defender for GW32?
I have 6,1 to play with, will be Zaba before GW33.Open ControlsAnyone know if there's a Niall Clusker on this site..?
He's one of my mini league rivals and he's in the FFS league 😉Open ControlsChances are he's here then! Might be watching you even as we speak... never heard the name though.
Open Controls....its you isn't it.
Open Controls
....Now I think you're all Niall Clusker.
Damn you all.Open ControlsNo I am Spartacus!
....maybe I'm Niall Clusker? 😯
I just don't know what to believe anymore D.

If Gerrard gets banned who will be on penalties for Liverpool?
Open ControlsSuarez I suppose
Open ControlsStudge unfortunately, which eams keeping him in is almost necessary as Liverpool win so many! A Rooney/Lukaku - Aguero - Suarez trifecta is off the cards for me if Gerrard gets suspended, those penos swing the balance in Studge's favour over Roon/lukaku. O, do we reckon they'll give penos to Luis so he can beat and obliterate both the 38 and 42 game goalscoring record? (In only 33 games!)
Open ControlsHe might do that anyway regardless, he never needed penos before..

Schurrle at 6.8 could be a steal if he gets the minutes
Open ControlsThat's a big IF.
The only thing with Schurrle that's putting me off him is that he gets a lot of 15 minute, 1-point, cameos. So you really have to know when he's going to play or you risk getting 1 point.Open ControlsIf he only was guaranteed to play every game and wasn't so inconsistent. Chelsea have the fixtures.

Lost it somewhere further up...Somebody asking best defender for one week for GW32....Caulker away to WBA...The baggies defence is in tatters and this...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/3832/
Also good for fixtures right now...Obviously a DGW defender would be better though.Open ControlsSo, has anybody found a way to have more than 3 Liverpool players in PlayOn this mini-round while still having full 11 players probably playing about 90 minutes?
