After writing a summary on the “New Players Analysis” I have moved onto the second section of my complicated spreadsheet – the versus section. This section analyses the players that you, the community, are struggling to choose between. You can check out the whole spreadsheet here for more information. The points in the brackets following each player’s name is their points per app average. For players of different prices the following number is their “value” rating.
Peter Odemwingie (4.5) vs Marko Arnautovic (3.6)
Odemwingie trounces Arnautovic in these stats as I only used the ones from his time at Stoke. He finished the season in superb form, scoring 6 times in half a season. He is more of a goalscorer, whereas Arnautovic will bring you more assists.
Verdict – I’d go for Odemwingie between the two. Both could be seen as a punt, and even though Odemwingie has more competition for a starting role, his out-of-position potential is huge.
Juan Mata (5.3) vs Aaron Ramsey (5.7)
Again, only Mata’s United stats were used, but he still falls short of Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey was a revelation last season. Even when returning from injury his points return didn’t falter. Mata’s productivity may be better when Robin van Persie returns but it is hard to overlook Aaron Ramsey.
Verdict – Ramsey’s steady form last season ensures him a place in the Arsenal side. While United find their feet under Louis van Gaal, Ramsey seems the safer option.
Eden Hazard (5.1, 51) vs Cesc Fabregas (4.8,63)
This is an intersting one for Fantasy Football Scout users. Hazard averages a better points per game but in terms of value Fabregas is a better option. Many feel a Chelsea attacker is a must and it is a choice between these two. Hazard offers certainty, but Fabregas provides better value.
Verdict – This is hard to call. Ultimately, I would say to build your team and see who you can fit in. Fabregas may play a little too deep but at 9.0 could be a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bargain.
Dusan Tadic (6, 80) vs Siem De Jong (4.4, 63)
The majority of Fantasy Premier League managers need a mid-price midfielder. Two newcomers that fall in that category are Tadic and De Jong. As mentioned in my previous article, Tadic looks a great option. Averaging six points per app in the Eredevisie last season, which drops down to 4.6 with the League Multiplier (more info on the spreadsheet). He managed 16 goals and 14 assists in 33 appearances last season, whereas Siem de Jong netted seven times and assisted twice in 19 appearancess.
Verdict – Southampton is a risy place to go at the moment with all the upheaval but Dusan Tadic looks the perfect FPL option. At only 7.5 he has the potential to rise up to 9.0 or 10.0 so I would lean towards him over De Jong.
Shane Long (3.3) vs Nikica Jelavic (3.3)
Nothing in this one as you can see. Jelavic scored one more than Long last season, but with an extra appearance at Hull. Many managers look for a cheap forward option and Long and Jelavic are the two to choose between.
Verdict – Nothing in it. Jelavic has penalties but Long has more assist potential in my opinion. Jelavic is better in the air and with Snodgrass signed he will get better deliveries, so I would perhaps go for him.
David Silva (5, 56) vs Yaya Toure (5.8, 54)
I thought I would include this one for the value stat. Toure is incredibly exspensive but is he worth it for what he delivers? He beats Silva’s points per app by nearly one whole point per game. However with the 2.0 price difference David Silva offers better value, just.
Verdict – Toure is hard to fit into teams. Ideally he is the one to get with what he brings to the FPL table. However, the value speaks volumes. However much you want Toure, Silva is just as good an option with his price.
Laurent Koscielny (4.5, 75) vs Mathieu Debuchy (4, 73)
Arsenal’s defence is a strong force and many would think Debuchy offers greater potential than Koscielny given his price and attacking prowess. However, Koscielny beats him on points per app and value. Koscielny scored twice last season, Debuchy one, although the new boy assited three times to Koscielny’s one. The Arsenal clean sheet ratio last season was used for Debuchy to make it fair.
Verdict – Although Koscielny offers better points and value we all know an extra 0.5 is so helpful. For that reason I would lean towards Debuchy in the Arsenal defence.
Samir Nasri (4.3, 51) vs Christian Eriksen (4.6, 58)
Eriksen’s performances last year shadow Nasri’s and it is surprising that he is priced less. Although Nasri scored and assisted more, you have to bear in mind he had nine more appearances than Eriksen.
Verdict – Easy for me, Eriksen. Nasri lacks consistency and I am not sure about his game time. Eriksen was so incredibly impressive last season and he cannot be overlooked at 8.0.
There are more versus on the spreadsheet itself including Bony vs Giroud and Lamela vs Eriksen. So go and check it out!
