Would appreciate the help guys and gals, basically got £11m to play around with for 2 defenders.

Just looking through Couti&TheBelow5th's spreadsheet and a few things became clearer for me...

Duff, Hutton, Moore and Wisdom are all likely to start the season in the first XI. I'm fairly confident that the other popular choices won't.

Newcastle's first choice defenders (other than Coloccini) have barely played. With quite a lot of variation between last season and now, their team are unlikely to gel early, especially defensively. The could be very leaky, beware.

Mourinho has given Fabregas lots of game time in pre season since he joined Chelsea. I think he has a much better chance of hitting the ground running than Hazard who has only just come back from holiday.

The recent outing for Adebayor is great news for his early season prospects after contracting malaria not too long back. He has a decent chance of starting GW1, especially after he managed a goal in his first short run out. However, this severely hurts Harry Kane's chances of playing at the start of the season.

There are a few other minor things that I will continue to keep my eye on as this spreadsheet is updated, but these are the major things I have got from it so far.

In a defence of kolorov baines and wisdom, I currently have pva and Collocini with 0.5 itb, any suggestions of what I can do if I remove pva and colo with 9.5, thinking of caulker/Mariapa or simpson /ward but my gks are speroni green so would it be foolish doubling up weekly ? I don't want to lose kolorov or baines so just the 9.5 best 2 combo please ?

So I think is an important question affecting many peoples teams do you think Vermaelen which actually end up at Man Utd? And if so do you reckon he will be fit to play GW1?

Considering dropping De Jong and getting both Eriksen and Lamela. Also thinking about Siggy in for Shelvey assuming I can still afford it, a want a Swansea midfielder to rotate with Cameron. I will change any player who is not starting consistently.
I would also like B.Davies and Shaw in defence but can't see how to work them in, maybe Davies instead of Debuchy?
Any suggestions would be good.

Interestingly, this week's pre-season games have shown that some players are not as nailed on as previously thought[especially to start the season]. Reasons range from lack of match fitness to competition from other players in said teams. This is basically a roundup of the news I've picked up here on this site, manager press conferences and from newspapers.

Arsenal
Wenger has confirmed Vermaelen can leave fueling speculation that his move to United is imminent. The more important information however is that Wenger doesn't consider the Belgian, together with the German contingent of Podolski, Mertesacker and Ozil as ready for thestart of the season. Giroud has been added to this growing list of players lacking match readiness. Chambers at 4.5M could be a cheap alternative to Debuchy as he looks to deputize for the BFG with Vermaelen not likely to pose any competition for that spot next to Kos.

Aston Villa
Only news worth noting is that Vlaar is yet to make his long-overdue transfer to a team with comparatively better defensive potential than Villa. With Senderos, Clark & Baker as featuring in pre-season, I am going on a limb to assume that Vlaar not featuring [yet] might mean he doesn't start GW1. Again, am assuming managers will be resting WC players. But he is also Villa's best CB so he should start. Clearly, I am not of much help with regards to Roncrete.

Chelsea
I fully expect Hazard to start despite his 30min cameo earlier today. The Brazilian midfield trio of Willian, Oscar and Ramires are yet to feature in pre-season meaning they most likely won't feature in GW1 if Mourinho opts to rest his WC players. Ramires' playing time looks to be greatly reduced with Fabregas' purchase anyway. Willian or Oscar not starting opens to door for Salah -- but surely that's a punt too far. The defender situation has been extensively covered on here already---the lack of Cahill in Mourinho's pre-season's teams makes me think JT might be the most nailed on CB. Personally taking a punt with F.Luis as he's rested and his for his ftransfer fee,I don't buy that he will need to be eased in.

Everton
Nothing to see here. Everton's lack of firepower up front should see Lukaku start GW1 despite not yet reporting for training at Liverpool. Not much has been said by Martinez about his CB pairing. Those wanting to pick Stones might be taking a risk.

Liverpool
Roger's has been resting Sturridge so fair to say he'll be rushing to do his touchline celebration come GW1. That's all I've got. Sterling's looked sharp in pre-season as well. Might do to pay attention to Liverpool's pre-season final game against Manchester United, I suspect both teams will field a strong team and should give an indication which players both managers hold in high regards---and thus, most likely to be starting come GW1.

Man City
Reports attributed to Pellegrini seem to suggest Kun, Demi & Zabaleta are GW1 doubts. Negredo's injury makes the battle between Dzeko & Jovetic an interesting one. The Community Shield should give an indication who is more nailed on I think. Sagna is yet to play for his new club and the transfer of Mangala is still pending. With no Kun, Yaya should take over penalties at least for the opening game. Silva & Nasri should start GW1. Nothing has been said about the GK situation so expect to see Hart line up between the goalposts.

Man Utd
No RVP folks--- Rooney should be in line for maximum attacking returns. Young has suddenly appeared as a contender for a starter at LWB, won't dare to guess what van Gaal will do. Evans & Jones appear to be the most nailed on defenders. Smallings as well if they don't sign anyone else.

That's all I've got. I am sure others can add comments about other teams and correct any mistakes I've made in my write-up.
