Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Sunday

Raheem Sterling grabs a goal and assist as Liverpool edge past Southampton. Daniel Sturridge is also amongst the goals as Nathaniel Clyne slams home the visitors’ consolation. Elsewhere, goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero ensure champions City are off to a winning start with a 2-0 triumph at Newcastle.

Sterling the Star for Reds
A goal and assist from the youngster helped Liverpool to a narrow win over Southampton in the first game of the post-Luis Suarez era. Fielded on the left of a 4-2-3-1 formation, Sterling was second only to Aaron Ramsey for midfield ownership as the season got underway and, like the Welshman, has instantly found his form – with the maximum bonus also accrued, few will be deterred by back-to-back road trips to City and Spurs as new owners look set to come flooding in. A price rise over the week looks assured as Fantasy managers take advantage of the wide man’s current 8.5 price tag.

Sturridge the Match-Winner for Liverpool
Somewhat overshadowed by Sterling’s 13-point haul, the forward nonetheless rewarded his 30% of Fantasy Premier League owners with the Merseysiders’ second in a 2-1 triumph. While the Sterling bandwagon builds momentum, it’s debatable whether Sturridge’s non-owners will be swayed by those upcoming visits to the Etihad and White Hart Lane, with many penciling him in for Gameweek 4 as the schedule starts to smile a little more kindly.

Clyne Strike Offers Hope for Saints
The 5.0-priced right-back leapt onto Fantasy radars with the visitors’ consolation at Anfield. Many expected Ronald Koeman’s side to be on a hiding to nothing after many of last year’s key players left over the summer but Southampton’s performance certainly suggests they could be worthy of our consideration ahead of a very kind run of fixtures. New playmaker Dusan Tadic earned a smart assist for Clyne’s strike, and with midfielder James Ward-Prowse (5.0) handed a start on the right of the front three, there’s reason for Fantasy optimism amongst the St Mary’s outfit aghead of a schedule which affords six kind home games (WBA, NEW, QPR, SUN, STO, LEI) and trips to West Ham, Swansea and Hull in the next 10.

Aguero Seals it for City
Manuel Pellegrini started with Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko up front at Newcastle but both were overshadowed by the fit-again Argentine in City’s 2-0 win. Emerging from the bench on 83 minutes, Aguero needed just seven minutes to find the net and remind us just how devastating a Fantasy force he can be.

With another week until the champions’ next league match against Liverpool, there’s every chance Aguero’s match sharpness will be up to scratch, allowing Pellegrini to start the diminutive frontman. His return immediately places concerns over Jovetic’s security of pitch time, though the Montenegro international turned in an impressive shift, with five attempts on goal and a trio of chances created for his team-mates at St James’ Park. With the likes of Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa so highly owned, Aguero looks a deadly differential in the premium forwards category and currently sits in just 4% of teams.

Silva Off the Mark
The City playmaker underlined the strength of options in the premium midfield bracket by grabbing the opener on Tyneside. Following strikes from Ramsey and Sterling, the Spaniard’s goal also brought him onto radars and offers hope that he could finally be set to overshadow the highly priced Yaya Toure in the City midfield. Like Aguero, Silva is also something of a differential (9%) but many will be understandably cautious here – we’ve no doubts over either’s potential but, as we’ve seen on all too many occasions in the past, whether the pair can string together a run of starts without injury is a little more than questionable.

Dzeko picked up good points in the last 1/4 of the season (just after he scored 4 points in 4 games for me if i remember correctly!)

Aguero is a monster if he stays fit, plus a captain material. Dzeko may share game time with Jovetic, but is the cheaper option.

My GW1 has gone so badly that I really want to play my WC, but I know that is proper knee jerk panic so i am trying to stop myself. Picked such a crap team haha.

If its that bad then the WC is the best option. You want your team on track as early as possible, sometimes drastic action is the best.

        Current team is:

        Begovic/Gilks

        Manquillo/Chambers/C.Davies/Caluker/Wisdom

        Ramsey/Mata/Hazard/Ward-Prowse/Isgrove

        Sturridge/Rooney/Pelle

What you think, scrap it and rebuild or hold out and make some slow changes?

Seeing that, I would have to discard my previous statement. Manquillo and Chambers look like they will get game time in the coming weeks. I have Caulker and intend to keep him. Davies is solid cover if Manquillo or Chambers don't play. Hold out to see Hazard in action. Pelle has potential but replace him if it doesn't shine through. Rooney and Sturridge are obviously good choices.

I would hold out and use free transfers and -4 hits to improve where needed.

Cheers for the help, 1st weeks nerves always get to me. You can't win Fantasy Football in the first few weeks but you can lose it. Just need to see what happens over the first few weeks and tweak it I suppose.

Sharing your pain with Mata. Turns out that pre-season form is not always a good indicator. He did nothing, scraped 2 points and the only saving grace is that he wasn't my captain. I haven't dumped him yet though, relying on a revival in the next game. I might regret it and wish that i'd replaced him with Sterling.

    Taylor Caulker Clyne (Johnson Duff)
    Mata, Ram, Haz, Sig, (Sterling)
    Roon, Dz, Agbon

60 odd with Haz to go.

Should I ditch Sterling / Johnson / Dzeko
    Bring in Costa & Tadic
Tweek defence only say Beg to Guz/McGreg Vlaar/hurt/Davies/Robertson ?

Is Larsson from Sun a good fantasy option. He got a great first up score but is this just a 1 off or is he capable of being consistent relative to his price. I read that he's quite experienced & in the past had good raps on him. However he plays for Sunderland so this could be a factor against buying him. Thoughts.

He'll chip in with set piece points every now and again but rarely scores from open play, and doesn't get many assists when he plays CM.

And then I realised, seconds after confirming transfers... I could have had Sterling instead of Siggy.

...and I'm still stuck with Ashley Young.

Who's the best striker to replace for Jovetic. 0.5m also INB.

Or is it worth Aguero and using the wildcard?..... Tempted to bring in Naismith for 5m and have 3.5 to reshuffle with WC? Brave or stupid?

    Current team

    Begovic

    Chambers PVA Caulker

    Sigurdsson Yaya Ramsey Mata

    Rooney Costa Jovetic

I've already used this weeks FT in bringing in Siggy for Arnautovic..

I know I had a bad gameweek so far and not at all happy with myself leaving siggy on the bench

    DDG (1)
    Vlaar(8), Lovern(2), Debuchy(5), Luis
    Hazard, Mata(2), Ramsey(10)
    Rooney(C, 14), Lukaku(2), Austin(0)

    Myhill, Siggy, Davies, El Almandi

Who in peoples opinions is priority to take out. I wanna avoid a -4 hit but if people think I need to I may consider it.

Also do people think Davies will play against QPR? I am thinking of keeping him GW2 to see.

    Begovic (Myhill)
Caulker, Lovren, Jagielka (Bruce, Van Aanholt)
    Mata, Rambo, Hazard, Siggy, Henderson
    Costa, Rooney (Nugent)

    to this:

    McGregor (Myhill)
Debuchy, Chester, Dier, Jagielka, Van Aanholt
Rambo, Sterling, Hazard, Siggy , Henderson
    Rooney, Costa (Nugent)

Basically swap around my defence as well as Mata to Sterling.
