Actual Bonus Points will be shown when added – all points are provisional until then.

Gameweek 4

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Are we all guilty of overthinking captaincy here? It seems like the failsafe strategy is just to always captain the league's form striker, regardless of fixture. RVP two years ago, Suarez last year, Costa this time. Those who try differentials for tougher fixtures or weeks when there's doubts over them almost inevitably get burnt.

Obviously most of you have Costa captain anyway, but in the run up to the deadline there was a huge amount of debate over whether he was the right pick.

Think it was because we weren't sure he was gonna start. I'll probably captain him just about every week now

Not really. Aguero and Rooney were both viable options this week. There were more reasons not to pick Costa than to pick him this week.

      Reposting response.

would prices being reverted really change anything? Surely they'd just make it harder to actually move away from the template, because you'd never be able to get players back? Whereas right now, if you fancy giving up on, say, Ramsey for a couple of weeks, you can do so without having to worry about getting him back. Seems backwards to blame the emergence of a template on price changes, when the new system offers more chance to break it up.

Then people who have the template are either defending a lead, or playing catchup and need to find one. That's how the game has always worked.

i really think it's the opposite. the quick rises pressure people into jumping on. now if you want someone it's for closer to 100% wanting them reasons, rather than x% being pressured into getting them and x% not minding having them

              Agreed,

I felt pressured to jump onto the Siggy, Aguero, Ramsay, Sterling band wagon while I could.

That said I'm being very cautious as last season I (somewhat accidentally) started with RVP, Mata, Michu amoungst others who had a terrible start the season. I was at 99.5m team value before I could remember to check up on FPL on the regular, luckily(?) I've developed a bit of an obsession since.

Disagree. This level of ownership has never happened before to so many players because people would have been priced out of getting all the best performers. Now you have 3-4 weeks to leisurely use your FTs to get on every bandwagon.

Only works out if the top 4 and top 3 all fire. If they start failing then differentials will play a part.

No, it doesn't. A small core of players scoring highly means a rigid template is a certainty. A slow price change system means its easier to swap between players when the current template fails.

exactly. Why were so many people burned by Ramsey and Yaya last year. Because their price exploded but some refused to get them until it was too late. Look at Siggy this year, everyone has him already. Fabregas has doubled in ownership yet only risen 0.3m

Absolutely not true. People didn't ignore Yaya and Ramsey because of the prices - Ramsey started at 5.5mil for christ's sake - they ignored them because they didn't think they could keep it up. I know, because I was one of the most guilty.

Bu the point is that those that came late to the party paid 7m for Ramsey instead of 5.5m and 10m for Yaya instead of 8.5m. That meant that they had to downgrade other parts of the squad

Wrong. By, say October last season practically every RMT floating around here had at least 9 or 10 players from Boruc, Coleman, Terry, Lovren, Yaya, Ramsey, Lallana, Suarez, Aguero and Sturridge / Giroud. It's nothing new.

And to blame it on a change to the price rise system is ridiculous. The mass crowd to account for the majority of transfers do theirs early on in the week anyway, so risers and fallers wouldnt have been a factor then.

Look at those picks, they arent all that good, only Costa is essentail, Rooney will drop to 20% if he doesnt score tomorrow, Ramsey and Siggy were hugely popular before a ball had been kicked. As the season rolls on it will change massively. 1/4 of WCs have been played so its obvious they'll all have the same players right now.

It's due to a few players who were slightly underpriced having a ridiculously good start to the season. Added to that the alternations to the price system have made it much easier to hop onto bandwagons, hence the ridiculous ownership stats.

Wait for other players to warm up though. Lots of options up front who will get going...

My point is that so many players are doing so poorly that there are no choices to be made yet. Look at the values of the players on the leaderboard of the Round Score tab, or even the Total Score. How would any price mechanism be able to make them unaffordable?

I have the top 4 mids and top 3 forwards, and you're right it was too easy to jump on the bandwagon. I'll use Costa as an example, I've had him from the start but the rate he is scoring at is like Suarez last season who sky rocketed and it took me 3-4 weeks to fit him in. This year because Costa hasn't sky rocketed it's easy to jump on.

Another example, I'm thinking of ditching Naismith and Rooney but am in no hurry to do so because their prices aren't going to fall through the floor. Rooney has lost nearly 15% ownership (he was close to 50% GW1 and yet he has only dropped 0.1m, thats ludicrous!

I have more empathy with price drops being slowed if they have - but the Rooney thing is not a new phenomenon. Top players rarely drop quickly in price especially when they have high ownership. Roon may have lost the ownership of almost 15% of the game's players, but that's still less than 1/3 of his original ownership, so a 0.1 drop is about right.

      This whole argument is ridiculous!

Silva, Toure, Mata, Walcott, Eriksen, Lallana, Hazard....

Sturridge, Balotelli, Lukaku, Benteke, Bony, Falcao, RVP, Rooney....

Any of the above are liable to hit form at any time, and as soon as they do there'll be plenty of selection headaches for everyone.

Costs and Agueri look increasingly essential but they're both premium priced and a dip in form will soon have people looking elsewhere for better returns on their 10m+

And since when did price changes have significant effect after 4 games?

It's still possible to beat the masses. I only have 5 of these having just Wc'd and have a GW rank of 28k.
There will always be some picks people gravitate to. Sturridge is injured, Rooney has gametime and reverse Oops threat and no one can afford that midfield 5.

PLAY YOUR OWN GAME. following ownership %s is for people wanting to do ok but never get near the top.

I'm not convinced this is such a big problem for several reasons:
      - This game is about points not pounds.
      - If its easier for people to chase last weeks points, that's fine by me. All the people who bought Naismith (not me) and Sterling (me) didn't take a big points harvest home today. Likewise the thousands who brought in Dier after his first two GWs, etc..
      - Sturridge dropped by over 10% ownership this week, showing these things change. That could be Rooney next week if he bombs tomorrow.
      - Injuries (see Sturridge above)!
      - There will always be a couple of players who are virtually essential but there are also plenty of other options in midfield and attack I've got on my watchlist and team who I think will rival most of those players for points in the longrun.

      Boo fogging hoo hoo hoo.

Too many casuals and not enough price change hackability makes being elite at FPL harder now.

No point moaning about things.... everyone's playing the same game here, with the same rules.

Up your game or move on, IMO.

Do we have to have this conversation every day?
The flaws with your theory have been highlighted time and again.
Under the new system templates are easier to build, but also easier to break.

Give it 10 weeks, then come back to us.

You're also ignoring the fact that 5 out of 8 (ignore rooney) of those players did not score this week.
More than happy for idiots to stick to their obvious template while I make moves like bringing in Pelle this week 🙂

Had the urge to WC but then decided to just lay my team out as it is for this coming GW and not worry about who i dont own and who i want to own.. it looks like this
    Krul
    Clyne Chester Caulker
    Sterling Eriksen Ramsey Siggy
    Rooney Costa Welbeck

    Elliott Terry Debuchy Albrighton
    1 million in the bank

Obviously i wanna get rid of Terry/Debuchy and get Fabregas in also.. but looking at that 11 for this weekend all i got to do is probably a utility transfer right?
Thinking Debuchy to Duff.. frees up cash for Eriksen to Fabregas GW 6. Will be stuck with terry and a couple of other player i dont want but seems sensible?
