FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup – Matchday 1

Here’s our regular update on the competition, featuring a look at our friendlies that took place over Gameweek 4, the  Live Scorecast and a look ahead to the start of the tournament itself when Matchday 1 kicks off this weekend. Please use this article for all tournament chat.

Friendlies

Over Gameweek 4 players got a taste of the Hockey World Cup team format with the friendlies being held prior to the real games.

The final results have been updated in the Cup spreadsheet

Live ScoreCast

Pratik has now launched the Live ScoreCast Tool, which lets you view the scores in real time as the Premier League games are on. So as Chelsea’s Diego Costa bangs in a goal and his four FPL points are added you will now be able to watch your hockey team’s scores rocket. Remember to bookmark this link.

Update on TFF’s Quiz

If you haven’t checked out The Fantasy Freak’s new quiz initiative to further fuel the team spirit in this arena, do so now – TFF’s Quizzes are back with a twist. He conducted a couple of quizzes over the week and here is what the Hockey World Cup leader board looks like:

NZ 2

All managers are requested to email me their four substitutes and their FPL IDs before the deadline of Friday, 19 Sep, 2359 BST. In case he or she  fails to do so, the autosubs will be the last four players on the Squads Page.

Managers may also be likely to post any pressers on this article here. So be on the watch for latest team news, especially from your enemies. As previously, please keep all the match day banter on this thread.

It’s time – Let the games begin!

PS – If any of those taking part are keen to pen a roundup or preview of matchdays, let me know and we can include them in future matchday threads too.

Well done, Argentina. Deserved win, though it all came to a certain budget striker called Naismith.

Proud of my own boys. Also my manager rating proves that I chose the correct XI. Just a weird week when a lot of things went wrong.

Nevermind. We will bounce bank next week.

Think the mods got rid cos they dislike so called 'spamming' images. Things that take up too much space. Fair enough deleting mine as it was a train wreck but I think yours was alright. Guess they thought they had to be consistent and ditch both

Injury concern in the South African camp. Kalamazoo took a 28 point hit and is going for a psychological evaluation. Unconfirmed reports that Christina hit him over the head with a beer bottle after kalamazoo slung abuse at the former South African calling him a traitor and 'a worse South African than Kevin Pieterson'. More to follow....

                    *whew*

I can rest now knowing our Brotherly Leader and Guide of the South African Revolution, The Great and Everpresent TML will not be asking me to show my love for our country by asking 'What are you prepared to do to win' with the Bee Gees 'How deep is your love' playing ominously in the background for the next GW.

I will remember you AFRIAZORCA come GW7 when it's your turn to show your love for our country but like our Brotherly Leader and Guide of the South African Revolution--The Great and Everpresent TML told us in camp the very first day after we swore our lives to this trophy-winning quest, our teams will rise from the ashes like a majestic fire-breathing phoenix rising above all who dare line-up against us after we show our ultimate love by taking -24+pt hits. We will LEAVE THEIR CHARRED REMAINS ON THE BATTLEFIELD TO SERVE AS A REMINDER FOR ALL THOSE WHO DARE TO STOP TML, OUR BROTHER LEADER FROM LAYING CLAIM TO THE TITLE WHICH IS HIS, AND HIS ALONE BY HIS DECREE.

Well, after all, as the the vice vice vice vice vice vice vice vice vice vice vice vice captain (according to the spreadsheet) I have certain priviliges like taking -36 as well.

This also means I will multiply my rank by 1000, hoping the large numbers will impress our opponents. We have too many players with 4 digit ranks, sooner or later the authorities will want to take drug tests. Though that's far easier in En-ger-land, peeing they have a dog as captain and all that.

An extract from the new JT Bond novel

The World (hockey trophy) is not enough
... JT Bond slowly crawled to the electrified fence surrounding the India training camp, close on his tail was his young disciple Agent Sanks. This kid was on his first assignment, and despite being in complete awe in the presence of the world’s top dog he had performed well so far. (Not really hard considering the story has just started. Ed.)
Barriers like this were nothing to someone like JT Bond, he had been given a special weapon to deal with this, cocking his leg and with perfect aim (thanks to Sanks acting as a tripod) he hit the power socket from 30 feet away. His friends don’t call him dead aim dick for nothing.
Sanks dried himself off and cut through the now disabled fence. Making their way slowly to the tactics hut, that was marked on the map of the compound. A map that JT had early managed to obtain by cunningly disguising himself as an 80 year old woman, and being invited into Indian manager 7shades private bedroom. Knowing that 7shades had a habit of talking in his sleep, JT made the greatest sacrifice. (though why he couldn’t just use google earth I don’t know, Ed.)
50 feet short of the hut sanks detected a serious of invisible trip wires that wasn’t on the map. JT knew this was the work of Epic Fail, nobody loved a good trip like Epic. Only a professional like JT could get round this, so round it he went, for some reason it only went half way across, Epic fail by name Epic Fail by nature.
JT knew India would have their best men guarding the tactics board night and day, his greatest enemies D1sable and Evs, (sounding a little bit like a butlins variety act when said like that, Ed.)
(Ed. Can you stop interrupting the story, everyone knows it isn’t really the Ed. , JT)
                    (ok, Ed.)
What he didn’t expect was both of them to be there at the same time. Could he manage to overcome them both together whilst keeping young Sanks safe? Was this even beyond the great JT Bond? Have you run out of ideas where to take this story and pretending it has a cliff-hanger?

stay tuned to see where this story goes
                    (if anywhere, Ed.)
