Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 5 – Sunday

Leonardo Ulloa strikes twice as Leicester come from behind to see off United. Angel Di Maria bags a goal and assist as Juan Mata is dropped to the bench. Leighton Baines brings home the points again despite Everton’s loss to Palace, James Morrison fires West Brom to victory at Spurs, while Chelsea old boy Frank Lampard cancels out an Andre Schurrle strike as City hold the leaders at the Etihad.

Mata Benched as Rooney Drops Deep
Fantasy owners of both players may well be reassessing their options after Louis van Gaal’s tactical reshuffle yesterday. The Dutchman’s decision to hand Rooney the role in “the hole” behind Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao saw the England international earn just an assist in the 5-3 loss, though with back-to-back home matches against West Ham and Everton preceding a trip to The Hawthorns, his owners are likely to hold as we assess the long-term impact on his Fantasy potential. Those still holding Mata, however, will surely be planning an exit route,

Di Maria Delivers Again
The Argentine grabbed a goal and assist for the second successive Gameweek as he becomes increasingly instrumental to United’s prospects in the final third. Snapped up by over 293,000 Fantasy Premier League managers last week, Di Maria’s ownership continues to soar in our five-man midfields and the above-mentioned schedule looks set to ensure the bandwagon hurtles along at pace. Elsewhere in the United midfield, Ander Herrera netted for the second time in as many matches, and at just 7.3 to Di Maria’s 9.7, some may be persuaded to opt for the Spaniard’s more budget-friendly appeal.

Ulloa and Vardy Steer The Foxes to Victory
Nigel Pearson’s side continue to defy the fixture list with a stunning comeback win over United. Leicester had already drawn with Everton and Arsenal at the King Power Stadium but their unbeaten record looked on the line after the visitors went 3-1 up just before the hour-mark – what then followed showed just why The Foxes won last year’s Championship. Leonardo Ulloa took his tally to five goals in as many matches with a brace, though the summer signing was overshadowed by James Vardy, who turned in an exceptional display with a goal and four assists. Pearson’s side now have some decent fixtures in the next five (cpl, BUR, new, swa, WBA), and at just 5.6, many are now eyeing up Ulloa as a cheap forward option as he continues to take the top-flight by storm.

Spurs Slump at Home Again
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now failed to score in each of their last two home encounters after suffering a disastrous defeat at the hands of West Brom. Hopes were high for the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli but Spurs managed a single shot on target all match, and with Arsenal, Southampton and City in the next three, returns look arguably unlikely at either end of the pitch.

Morrison The Baggies Hero
In his second start of the season, the Scot grabbed the only goal in yesterday’s early encounter at the Lane. After his side had failed to score in each of the previous three, Alan Irvine dropped record signing Brown Ideye to the bench as Saido Berahino grabbed the lone forward role, whilst at the back, the installation of Joleon Lescott proved crucial in chalking up a second shut-out of the campaign. With three strong home fixtures in the next six (BUR, CPL, NEW), Andre Wisdom owners will perhaps be a little more confident in starting the 4.0-priced defender if the Baggies carry on from yesterday’s result.

Baines in the Points Again as Martinez Rotates
In a Gameweek where many captaincy options failed us, the Toffees left-back proved an excellent armband differential after picking up the points for a third Gameweek in succession. Baines’ converted spot-kick in yesterday’s 3-2 home loss to Palace means he has now served up a goal, two assists and six bonus points over that period, though with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and United up next, many may be prepared to hold fire until the schedule picks up in Gameweek 8. Certainly, given that Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded at least twice in all but one of the opening five matches, defensive returns are looking hard to come by.

While Romelu Lukaku kept his starting role and scored for the second match running, Martinez’ team sheet indicates he may well be set to rotate in the forward areas to deal with Europa League duties. Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas both approached the match in excellent form but dropped to the bench as the Everton boss turned to the likes of Christian Atsu and Leon Osman – perhaps a sign of things to come as the schedule picks up for the Merseysiders.

Palace Shock Goodison
Palace continued their impressive attacking form on the road under Neil Warnock yesterday. The Eagles stuck three past Newcastle in their previous road trip before stuttering to a goalless draw at home to Burnley last weekend but found their scoring boots once again, with Yannick Bolasie, Fraizer Campbell and a Mile Jedinak penalty earning a crucial win. While Jason Puncheon kept his tally ticking over with an assist, Wilfried Zaha already looks far from assured of a start after dropping to the bench to accommodate goal-scorer Bolasie. Interestingly, Warnock also recalled Joe Ledley in favour of Dwight Gayle and shuffled his pack at the back, with Adrian Mariappa dropped to the bench in favour of the recalled Martin Kelly, underlining the uncertainty in the Palace starting XI at this moment in time.

Schurrle Nets in Blues Draw
Chelsea’s 100% start to the season came to an end yesterday after a 1-1 draw at the Etihad. For the first time this term, Eden Hazard outscored both Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa by providing the assist for Andre Schurrle’s opener, though the Blues’ defensive frailties continue to blight their prospects – it’s just one clean sheet in five for the league leaders ahead of back-to-back home matches against Villa and Arsenal.

Lampard to the Rescue
Edin Dzeko recovered from a back problem to take his place alongside Sergio Aguero as City reverted to 4-2-2-2 formation. Neither player was able to influence matters, though, and the Bosnian was subbed off midway through the second period as his goalless start to the campaign continues. Instead, it was left to Chelsea legend Lampard to net a late equaliser just seven minutes after emerging from the bench – bearing in mind he’s been afforded just 58 minutes this season, it’s fair to say his he’ll be utilised as an impact sub at best.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Eriksen is godly. Poch just isn't getting the most out of him.

Vertonghen is a smashing player but keeps being used for Europa.

And the rest of the squad is decent. To be able to turn out two almost completely different XIs for EL and PL is impressive, though perhaps unwise.

Eriksen is extremely over-rated. He is good at free kicks, that's it.
Vertonghen also over-rated. Hasn't had a good game sine mid last season.

Eriksen has been shining in the CL for 3 years before joining Tottenham. He is much better in the hole than being placed on the wing. He's a great player.

Vertonghen is also very good, just needs a run of games.

Fantasy Football Scout Community Champion needed.

As you may have noticed we’ve revamped our Scout Picks. Mark, myself, Paul and a community champion picked by you each week are up against each other.

We are now looking for Gameweek 6’s Scout Picks Community Champion to represent you and get one over on The Scouts.

To put yourself forward simply add in your Gameweek 6 Scout Picks here. For everyone else please upvote the poster you would like to represent you based on their picks.

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of budget. We are sticking to a budget of 83.5m. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team.

I’ll leave this vote for 24 hours and come back at 10am tomorrow to find out who is the community’s choice.

Once selected I’ll need you to email me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with your final scout picks and 200 word explanation (I’m happy to take bullet points) by Thursday 5pm at the latest. There is time to alter based on injuries on Friday daytime – just keep me updated by email. If your champion fails to submit their final team by this time then an assistant from our team of moderators and contributors will step in.

I’ve totted up this week’s totals and sadly the community is still in last place overall. 🙂

Who will step forward to reclaim your honour in Gameweek 6?

      Begovic
      Bertrand Ivanovic PVA
      Di Maria Hazard Tadic Sterling
      Falcao Costa Pelle

Despite struggling to keep clean sheets, Stoke have conceded very few shots so Begovic looks a good shout to finally deliver some points against a Newcastle side that have looked rather blunt all season, and are yet to win.

The back three all offer strong possibilities for return this weekend at both ends of the pitch.

I am backing Hazard to finally turn stats into points at home to Villa, while Sterling is the most likely candidate for points in what could be a goal laden Merseyside derby. Di Maria can currently do no wrong, while Tadic has a very strong fixture.

Up front, Costa and Pelle have form and fixtures, and Falcao was unlucky not to score yesterday, and I am backing him to break his duck this weekend.

Apologies this is over budget, I will pick Naylor instead of Ivanovic to bring me in closer to budget.

Swansea have looked steady defensively and Sunderland blunt in front of goal.

Kindly allow me to represent the community in game week 6

      Forster
      Ivanovic Kompany Shawcross
      ADM Moses Puncheon Sterling
      Costa Pelle Aguero

I will now, individually explain why I have picked each player:

Forster: Southampton in great form, QPR woeful away from home

Ivanovic: Will virtually as a right winger at home against the weaker teams, and with Aston Villa up next he should be good for both defensive and attacking returns

Kompany: City are beginning to find their feet at the back this season, and with a new partner in Mangala, Kompany should pick up some returns against Hull

Shawcross: Newcastle have been woeful of late, and should find it very difficult on a Monday night at the Britannia

ADM: Player in form, at the hub of every United attack. Home fixture, no brainer.

Moses: I've been watching him over last couple of weeks, and he is very involved. His stats (especially penalty area touches are great) and the fixture against a hopeless Newcastle should help his cause

Puncheon: Palace are very attacking under Warnock, Leicester have conceded the most number of shots both inside and outside the box this season

Sterling: The derby will be full of goals and this bright young kid will do me proud!

      Costa: No brainer.

Pelle: Home fixture against QPR, who have lost 4-0 in each of their last two fixtures. Attacking stats are immense

Aguero: Should notch against Hull, who have conceded twice in each of their previous 3 games

            Explanations:
QPR, Newcastle and Aston Villa are all bad and Southampton, Stoke and Chelsea should be able to score and keep clean sheets against them - that accounts for 8 of the players.
ADM is in fine form and at the heart of everything as is Sterling and Ramsey just seems to be able to do it and Arsenal are at home to Spurs he will be more than motivated.

This isn't comptetition for 'not important' members, only 'big' have a chance for this, but I'll try anyway.

        Foster
        Ivanovic Clyne Wilson
        Hazard Siggy Sterling Tadic
        Aguero Pelle Ulloa

Foster and defence all got nice fixtures,Ivanovic and Clyne attacking potential,Wilson may get bonus.
Hazard got nice fixture,Villa defenders are slow,so he should do something.
Tadic playing vs poor QPR and Sterling should continue with delivering.
Siggy made a little break, and I hope he will get back on the road like before.
Aguero is main City striker and I think he will get another goal by his name.
What to say about Costa - he is top scorer and should continue his score record vs Villa.
Ulloa is in great form and Palace doesn't seems good.

Courtois (home to AVL, only scored 4 goals)

Bertrand (attacking threat, home to QPR, only scored 3 goals)
Wisdom (Home to burnley, 0-0 written all over it)
Wilson (Home to Newcastle, bottom of league, look blunt only for Cisse)

ADM (Picks himself, top form, home to WHU)
Sterling (Up against worst defense in the league in a generally high scoring Derby)
Fabregas (Home to Villa, churns our assists, preferred to Hazard due to his consistency)
Bolasie (Home to Leicester, very menacing on the counter with his pace)

Costa (Home to Villa, 7 goals in 5, picks himself)
Aguero (Away to Hull who have conceded 2 in each of their last 3)
Pelle (Home to QPR, 3 goals and 1 assist in 3 games)

I missed out last week so I am willing to have another go!
Here are my picks for GW6:

        Mannone (4.5)
        Azpi (6), Bertrand (5), Wisdom (4.0)
        Di Maria (9.8), Ozil (9), Sterling (8.8), Moses (5.5)
        Costa (10.9), Aguero (12.1), Pelle (7.6)

        Budget: 83.2

        Explanations:
Mannone: He is racking up the saves and Sunderland are finding some defensive form.
Azpi: Cheap route in Chelsea back 4. Villa at home should be a good bet for a CS.
Wisdom: Burnley can't score recently so I think West Brom will keep a CS at home against them.
        Di Maria: Player in form
Ozil: He played behind Welbeck against Villa. His goal could bring his confidence back and it is the north London derby (many goals usually)
Sterling: Merseyside derby so I also expect many goals and Sterling will be involved
Moses: Newcastle are toothless at the moment. Moses could create damage.
Costa: Best striker at the moment and facing Villa 🙂
Aguero: Hull is leaking goals, I expect him to score.
Pelle: His stats are great and he is facing leaky QPR.

        Thank you for your votes!

          Kerz's Scout Picks:

          Forster
          Bertrand - Duff - Ivanovic
Hazard - Di María - Özil - Sterling
Pellè - Diego Costa - Ulloa

          £83.2m at 22 September's prices.

In defence I've doubled up on Southampton, as they come up against a toothless QPR. Burnley's grit and defensive tenacity sees Duff earn a place in my side, as they travel to the Hawthorns. Lastly, Ivanovic's eye-popping 11 goal attempts and 9 key passes so far this season sees him grab the final spot in my defence, as Chelsea welcome Villa to the Bridge.

I've packed my midfield with explosivity - Özil and Sterling will both be involved in historically high-scoring, feisty derbies, while Hazard's and Di María's inclusions need little explanation as both face relatively easy opposition at home.

Up-front, I've gone with the current highest goal-scoring strikers in the league. Costa will surely be on the score-sheet as he mesmerizes Villa's defence. Pellè locks horns with QPR, the team who currently have the worst defensive record in the league. The Italian has had the most shots inside the box of any player thus far. Lastly, Ulloa wins a spot in my team as he travels to Palace. With 5 in 5, notching against the likes of a resolute Stoke, United, Everton and Arsenal, you wouldn't bet against the Argentine increasing his tally.

          Heaton

          Clyne - Bertrand - Baines

          Hazard - Di Maria - Sterling - Downing -

          Costa - Aguero - Welbeck

There you go, 80.5 M. Brief explanation: Heaton and Burnley's defense seems pretty reliable at the moment and i really can't see any pricier GK doing better than him right now.

Clyne and Bertrand against QPR, there's a good chance that they'll both keep a CS or deliver some attacking points(at least one of them) so the best case scenario(CS + attacking points) looks very tasty.

Baines plays against Liverpool who has an awful defense right now, same as Everton, so even if he'll lose the CS there's still a chance that he might deliver an assist and collect some BPS as usual.

Hazard is a differential right now and after an assist against City i can see him scoring a goal against Aston Villa who conceded three goals against Arsenal.

United may not be on fire but Di Maria is; sure, he won't score every GW but he could be a serious contender for Fabregas for the title of assistman of the year and plus United seems to play only offensive football while completing disregarding the defensive part.

Sterling is just Sterling, the only Liverpool player to own and i can see many goals being scored in the derby.

Downing is spending a lot of time in the attacking zone since he's practically playing as a winger. With a game against United, if West Ham scores a goal, i can definitely see something coming from his way. (I couldn't find a more interesting MF than Downing for 3 more million so i chose him).

Costa blanked against City and i'm pretty sure he won't want to blank again against Villa, he's the obvious choice.

When he scored, Aguero has not delivered more than 6 points per game until now but at some point he'll have to and Hull has conceded six goals in the last three games(two each game) and they might concede even more against City.

Welbeck against Spurs? Why not? He's still a differential and Wenger pumped him pretty good by saying that he could be "the new Henry"; that might be a little too much but he's very underrated and i can see some goals being scored against Spurs after a defeat against West Bromwich.

LOL, sorry, that's way over-budget, i messed up the count. Well, i'll just ditch Baines for N. Taylor and Downing for Diamè.

            Heaton

            Clyne - Bertrand - N. Taylor

Hazard - Di Maria - Sterling - Diamè

            Costa - Aguero - Welbeck

            83.5 and sorry again.

I wanted to go for something different so here goes:

          Forster
          Duff Naylor Ivanovic
          Siggy Ramsey ADM Silva
          Pelle Costa Lukaku

          Total: 82.7

Here is my reasoning for some of the picks:

Siggy: I expect Swansea to return to winning ways after 2 losses in 2 difficult games. Sunderland not very tight at the back.

Ramsey: Arsenal have destroyed Tottenham at the Emirates in recent years. Ramsey has had a couple of average games so he is due a performance to punish the sellers.

ADM: On great form. Utd play at home and will be looking for a big reaction after the Leicester humiliation. ADM will provide the spark for sure.

Silva: City's most creative player. With Yaya not providing anything upfront, Silva will carry the responsibility of making things happen. Not convinced Aguero justifies 12.1 so I went with Silva.

Pelle and Costa: No brainers. Pelle plays QPR who have lost 4-0 the last 2 away games. Costa is this season's Suarez. I can't see less than double figures for him.

Lukaku: Seems to be finding form. Liverpool are terrible at the back. Lukaku has a good record against Liverpool with Everton.

          Foster (4.5 BUR)
Ivanovic (7.2 AVL) Bertrand (5.1 QPR) Duff (4.1 wba)
Sterling (8.8 EVE) Fabregas (9.4 AVL) Di Maria (9.8 WHM) Puncheon (5.9 LEI)
Costa (10.9 AVL) Ulloa (5.7 cpl) Aguero (12.1 hul)

          Cost 83.5 mil.

          Key Points/Predictions:

WBA v BUR 0-0, two defs in this game.
CHE v AVL 6-0, three key Chelsea players.
CPL v LEI 2-3, two attacking players in this game.

          Foster
          Duff - Clyne - Cahill
Sterling - Downing - Di Maria - Ozil
          Aguero - Costa - Pelle

Foster and Duff probable because WBA are somewhat not good in attack and BUR has no attacking threat either.

Clyne - QPR at home. we need a defender from SOT

Cahill - Maybe this week, CHE can keep a CS at home against AVL

Sterling - Everton has been conceding goals and sterling is the best pick from LIV

Downing - MU's defensive problems, who else we should need than him

Di maria - his run and work rate gives him a place in the lethargic UTD

Ramsey - Derby day for ramsey, he has a goal stored in him

Aguero and Costa - latter's form and former's finishing and a favourable fixture

Pelle - QPR at home. maybe a hattrick!

What to do with 2 FTs this week?

        Foster/Krul
        Moreno/PVA/N. Taylor/Bertrand/Wisdom
        Sanchez/Fabregas/Siggy/Sterling/Marney
        Costa/Rooney/Welbeck

0.7 in the bank. I'm thinking of holding Sanchez in the face of the Di Maria bandwagon; my plan was Rooney -> Falcao. Should I stick with that?

Need to replace Naismith and need a decent 3rd striker as I have Boyd as the 5th mid...so came up with three options:
        A) Ulloa - in form striker and scored against top teams, have good fixtures till gw 13 and much cheaper than Pelle or Welbeck

        B) Pelle - in form, good enough fixtures and next game is against QPR so tempting but in order to get him I'd have to do away with Ramsey and also take 2 hits (-8)

        C) Welbeck - not so good 2 fixtures but after that nice run of fixtures but can share minutes with Podolski/Sanogo/Campbell/Walcott
        Note that A & C are for -4

          Ι like the 3-5-2, but with Costa/ Welbeck/ Ulloa
I would downgrade one of Ramsey or Sterling or one of Ivanovic or Baines to have those 3 forwards.
I would also have Cambers instead of PVA and Heaton or mannone with the 4.0 GK

So, Ramsey drops back to 9m. He is currently just 5 points off being top midfield scorer and is top mid for shots taken so far. Tough crowd. Clearly the number 1 candidate for ADM move, but it does make one wonder if its the right move.

Yes - the only other alternative would be Fab, but many have some funds invested in him which tends to have an effect. A lot will be riding the Di Maria price wave with an eye to jumping back when the fixtures change.

        Kreliott
        Clyne Wilson Chambo Hutton Wisdom
        ADM Rambo Siggy Fab Sterling
        Costa Rooney Ulloa

Had a crap score this week and knee jerked to do Mata, JT, Nasmith to ADM, Clyne, Ulloa (-8)

Cost me -8, but gained 0.3 in value

Should I just WC and make more changes to improve my team (e.g getting Kun, improve GK etc)

Barry and aguero for di Maria and ulloa?

Or Bruce and Barry for two mediocre players any suggestions??

41 point week. Poor but satisfied that I maximised my returns with two correct calls - playing PvA and not Hutton, and Rooney (c) instead of staying on Costa. Settled at 93k for second week running!

Ok hear me out a sec. If I drop Aguero (madness I know) I can get in Pelle, Welbeck + ADM for Naismith + Ramsey whilst still keeping Ivanovic and having enough money in the bank to do Moreno > Baines come GW8.

        Am I crazy?

Don't cut off your Gameweek 6 nose to spite your Gameweek 8 face.

thinking ahead is good...but anything can happen in gameweek 6 or 7...I'm sure if you want Baines in a couple of weeks another route will emerge. Dropping Aguero before Hull away on the back of a draw seems odd. It's a must win game for ManC and they will need Aguero for that.

Whats my team looking like heading into next week:

        Forster (mcarthy)

        Wilson Clyne Moreno (Duff Moore)
Di Maria Sterling (C) Fabregas Siggy (Boyd)
        Aguero Costa Pelle.

After a 30pt gw seriously thinking of liquidating Aguero (only in a financial sense) and for a -4 going

        Aguero > Welbeck
        Chadli > ADM
        Naismith > Ulloa

This would give me 1m in the bank. The only thing giving me pause is Aguero's fixtures but at 12m he needs to be firing and fixture-proof so running out of patience.

Some are transferring Aguero in on here. I like the look of the transfers and Aguero is an annoying player to own in FPL so I'd certainly be tempted by the moves. I'd expect many on here to say the opposite though.
