Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 15 – Sunday

Andy Carroll bags a brace and assist as West Ham defeat Swansea. Diafra Sakho returns from injury to notch again, Wilfried Bony nets his seventh in nine appearances, whilst Villa’s unbeaten run stretches to five thanks to goals from defensive duo Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton.

Carroll Breaks His Duck

Partnered by Enner Valencia up front as Sam Allardyce returned to a midfield diamond, the big target man opened his account for the campaign in emphatic fashion. Carroll was simply unplayable against the Swans and bagged two goals and an assist in the 3-1 win as Allardyce’s side triumphed for the third successive Gameweek, though with Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho also in the mix after recent injuries, the Hammers boss has considerable strength in depth to deal with the festive schedule. On this form, though, it’s difficult to see him being dislodged.

Fit-Again Sakho Back in the Goals

The Senegal striker was handed a bench role against Garry Monk’s side but, having replaced Valencia at the break in his first appearance since Gameweek 11, was amongst the goals yet again. Impressively, Sakho has now scored in seven of his eight Premier League starts, and at time when Sergio Aguero is a major doubt and Charlie Austin is suspended for the weekend, the 5.7-priced Hammers forward has to come back into the reckoning as he prepares to face Sunderland, Leicester and West Brom in the next five Gameweeks. Whilst rest and rotation may still blight his pitch time, yesterday’s display underlined his ability to deliver with limited minutes.

Another Assist for Downing

The Hammers midfielder emerged victorious in yesterday’s battle of the playmakers. Whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson blanked for the sixth successive road trip, Downing grabbed his sixth assist of the season to help the Hammers come from behind to clinch the points, and with the fixtures still favourable, a price of 6.1 continues to look outstanding value. Downing has now racked up a goal and three assists in his last five appearances and sits fifth in the midfield standings.

Bony Strikes Again

After stumbling at home to QPR in midweek, the Swansea frontman grabbed his seventh goal in nine Gameweeks at Upton Park yesterday. Owned by just 9% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Bony’s excellent form brings him onto our radars as a possible short-term replacement for Aguero before he departs for international duties in next month’s African Cup of Nations. Priced at just 8.4 in FPL, he now faces Spurs, Hull, Villa, Liverpool and QPR in the next five, and whilst his lack of explosive potential (one double-figure haul this season) limits his potential as a captaincy contender, he looks one of the most reliable forwards around right now.

Villa Defenders in the Points

Paul Lambert’s side are now unbeaten in five after coming from behind to get the better of Leicester yesterday afternoon. Christian Benteke went into this one highly fancied, and whilst the Belgian managed an assist in the 2-1 triumph, it was Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton who proved the unlikely goal heroes for Paul Lambert’s side.

Despite the loss of Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker in recent matches, Villa have now conceded just three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of back-to-back clashes against Man United and Swansea. With Sunderland, Palace and Leicester in the following three, though, further returns could be on the cards before the festive period is out.

Ulloa Worry for Deflated Foxes

The Argentine rolled up to Villa Park in decent Fantasy form, after serving up an assist in each of his previous two appearances. Ulloa was in the points once again for the visitors after scoring his first goal since the Gameweek 5 win over United but a first-half knock meant he was replaced at the break by David Nugent. Yesterday’s defeat means Nigel Pearson’s side have taken just two points in 10 league matches since that famous victory over the Red Devils, and with doubts over their top scorer’s availability, the Foxes could be set for further misery as they square up to City, West Ham and Tottenham next.

ot's of people taking 8pt hits or even playing WC this week, so will take 8pt hit my self (4pt needed to field 11).

Want to get ahead of the curve on some players, so looking at the above article and Big Numbers article a few transfers look good. Thought I would look at a casual obvious pick and a differential ahead of the curve pick for each transfer:

Aguero > Benteke (differential) or Bony (casual)

Marney > Bolasie (differential) or Boyd (casual)

Chadli > Yaya (differential, because of cost) or Nasri (cheaper differential) or Hazard (casual)

Chambers > F' knows....no obvious candiadates apart from Hutton but that's chasing last weeks points or Clichy but rotation threat.

Would you wildcard this team? (caps shows players out/not starting)

    FABIANKSI Green

    CHAMBERS Clyne Baines Wisdom Naylor

    CHADLI FABREGAS Sanchez Wanyama Sigurdsson

    AGUERO Costa Kane

I have 2 FTs. If I played the wildcard I would also use the chance to get rid of Wanyama / Green / (maybe) Clyne / (maybe) Wisdom.

O r should I wait on news for Aguero and Fabianski

Nah, you only need to remive chadli (or even riak him; he might be being re-introduced carefully following injury). Probably gonna have to lose aguero, but i reckon a -4 is worth the hit this week, and you'll still have a starting 11

Well, I bought Aguero at 12.1 and I'll lose 0.1 today if he drops.

I can take a 0.1 drop on Chambers, and my targets (Costa+ O'Shea) are not rising.

Should I take the 0.1 drop, so that I can make my transfers after CL?

  16. Rewind to 2013 - Ramsey and Yaya

It's interesting that, in the week where the best fantasy option (Aguero) gets injured, arguably the two best fantasy players from last season (Yaya and Ramsey) are slowly showing signs of regaining their form.

Ramsey seems to be benefiting from Arsenal's playing style with Giroud back and just needs to improve his finishing to capitalise on the chances he's being afforded.

Yaya is set to troll us again - his shooting from open play is not outstanding but his penalties will keep him ticking over and offering solid point returns most weeks.

If you were to chose one, who would it be? Ramsey's superious form and threat from open play? Or do you think Yaya's fixtures are too much to ignore despite this season's inflated price tag?

I have a bad feeling about ADM. I fear he may suffer from fatigue, niggling injuries and poor form over the winter, much like Özil for Arsenal in his first season. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time it's happened to a played of ADM's physique in their first full season in England

Agree that the 4 YC is an issue but these things are never so clear cut and he could easily go until Jan without getting booked.

You could also bring in Yaya now and sell him again when the ACON comes around (on the Jan wildcard if necessary) or if he gets booked

City get more penalties when Aguero is not on the pitch, because Aguero always tries to stay on his feet instead of going down easily like so many others.

However, most of City's penalties last season came after Aguero had tired out the opposition and then been subbed.

Compare Ramsey this season to Ramsey last season using the comparison tool. Select "Gameweek range" as a filter for this season and choose GW13-15 (since Giroud returned to the team)

Yaya looks essential over Christmas with Aguero out. He is the kind of bulletproof player you need in that period.

I am tempted to get him for a hit this week, but will probably wait one more week to avoid having to sell Siggy or Downing.

Not put off by his price, and 4 YCs?

I guess he looks nailed-on for those 5 if he doesn't get banned and most will miss at least one game due to rotation so it wouldn't be the end of the world.

That said, getting Ramsey instead frees up so much more money

thing is - with Aguero out, money not such an issue. Can e.g. do Kun + Marney -> Yaya + Sakho. Of course choosing Ramsey instead may allow for Ramsey + Bony

One game suspension I don't mind. He can do more in 4 than most City options in 5.

Went with Yaya over Ramsey as my ADM replacement last week.

Despite Ramsey showing better signs against WBA his 20% shot accuracy for weeks 1-13 was a concern.

Agree, but then again he was shooting from range and wasn't getting in the box in the same way he will no that Giroud is back

Yeah, agree with you about Giroud. WBA was his first start since his return and it coincided with Ramsey's three attempts on goal from inside the box.

i got Yaya in and capped him so biased but has to be said penalty apart he didnt do a lot. Prob most reliable city option for their nice fixtures though, could easily be pushed up front if city fall behind too

Well his main attraction is penalties, no doubt about it, but for 10.7 that seems a lot.

plus is Cazorla not tempting? Has had some assists lately and on pens, arsenal have a lot of players that can win pens

Yaya never trolled anyone last season.

Those who were too stubborn to get him in trolled themselves.

That's not true and you know it! He basically only scored pens after Aguero had been subbed (lucky) and free kicks (which he'd previously never shown any sign of ever being good at) up until January.

I don't think it was just luck. And it's not as if he isn't a quality player, having deservedly been voted African Player of the Year three times.

As I stated in my earlier reply, City tend to get more penalties after Aguero has been subbed, because Aguero prefers to stay on his feet rather than to play for penalties.

Yaya had clearly been working on his free kick skills, and they were certainly much improved compared with previous seasons.

He was also encouraged to attack much more under Pellegrini than he had been under Mancini, a far more defensively minded manager who never allowed him to bomb forward until at least an hour had elapsed and the game was still scoreless.

Those who refused to accept that he had become a high-scoring player really only had themselves to blame, though I must admit that I did not expect it at the beginning of the season.

Has anyone noticed that list down the right hand side of the page called the Suspension Tightrope?

Seems like it could hold useful information for deciding on your next transfer target that you need to play consistent games through the difficult Xmas period.

So, is it YYT or Sanchez?

Former on 4YC and ACN looming, but penalties, form and fixtures are all tasty.
How much will Sanchez, who according to Wenger is in the red zone, play over the festive period?

Exercise Phys student here. Knee ligament strains (assuming that's what it is) often take at least 8 weeks to heal. Although he could easily be out three months with one. If it's a very minor strain it could be 4 weeks. If the worst occurred (knee ligament tear) it can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months with surgery depending on the ligament damaged. Of course, with the expert care he will be getting it will likely be less time in every circumstance.

How does this transfer plan sound
    2 FT

    Aguero > bony
    Cork > downing

    Next week

    Chadli/siggy > silva

    Giving me

    Foster (krul)

    Baines - Terry - wisdom - Hutton - yun
    Sanchez - silva - siggy/chadli - hazard
    Costa - bony - Austin

Seems reasonable? Or are there better targets!

managed to go all season without Kun. Then a drop from 99th to 1000 last week made me crack and do a -4 Aguero and Austin in for Bony and Pelle. well that worked well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Benched yun as first sub too.

now have Fab , Austin , Aguero , Chambers out and Moore likely replaced by Morgan

    what would you do for a 2 transfers = -4 ? £1.1m itb

    Clyne Chambers Baines Moore Yun
    Fab Siggy Downing Sanchez Boyd
