Team Profiles & Comparison Tool Preview Movie

Last week we launched a couple of brand new features in our Members Area – Team Profiles and the Team Comparison Tool.

We’ve felt for a long time that, while our tools provided in-depth analysis of player performance, often as Fantasy managers, we needed a similar view of how teams as a whole are performing.

The Team Profiles were the first step. These allow you to view a team’s data in detail and slice by any Gameweek interval – including the Last Four Gameweeks, Last Six Gameweeks, Home and Away or any specified Gameweek range.

Alongside the host of team statistics provided on the profile, we’ve also added to our arsenal of statistical maps, plotting the location of events on the pitch. Using these you can examine the occurrences of events such as Chances Created and Fouls Won to analyse the attacking patterns of terms. Similarly, you can flip these charts and assess any weaknesses in a team’s make-up by, for example, examining where chances are being conceded.

We’ve also included player data on the profiles so, when you choose a team to analyse, you can scroll down and view all the players that contribute to the Gameweek range you’re currently viewing for that team. This is a very effective way of assessing a team’s defensive qualities whilst, in the same screen, scanning their squad for the defenders who perhaps offer the most creativity and threat in attacking areas.

Having set up these profiles, we then extended our Comparison Tool to include them. Like the Player Comparison Tool, this enables you to assess two teams over a given Gameweek period and gain an immediate appraisal of how they compare. While this is useful for head-to-head comparisons, you can also use it to compare the same team over two different intervals to perhaps assess how they have progress or regressed in certain areas. We used this to compile our recent Technical Area article on Liverpool’s recent progress here.

Both these additions are live and available to our members.

Half-season memberships are still available for just £10. These will take up to the end of the season and expire on June 1. Click here for more details on how to register or upgrade.

In the meantime, here’s a movie we put together to preview the new features in use.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Best Tadic replacement for 8.3 or less if the rest of your front eight is Sanchez, Eriksen, Hazard, Boyd, Giroud, Kane and Aguero?

Still a lot more effort than me going to one of the other FPL sites that has this information easily available in a specific price change section. Just suggesting things to stop me using other sites!

Typical BS response that refuses to acknowledge it is less convenient. If it can be improved and make the site better, don't fight it.

We'd still be using candles and never would have invented the lightbulb if it were left to people like you.

C'mon Billy. "not really that difficult to find tbf" sounds a little dismissive and condescending to me.

Also he never said it was difficult, he said it would be easier if they had a toolbar to show it.

True. I worded it very poorly and didn't mean it to come across that way. Was more trying to point out that you don't need to 'guess/work out' which article it's on.

And I totally agree with the idea of a toolbar

This. I've been wondering for a long time why FFS hasn't already done a price changes tool in the members area - is it because FPL doesn't want us to have this information, that it is somehow 'secret' ?

I've suggested this a few times before as well. That or jsut rephrase the current question to clarify. So it's either:

"Of the players that you own who is the best captain"
"Regardless of who you own who is the best captain"

        Oh yes...very, oh yes...

Also a proper watchlist....Not just who are the best picks this week.

A proper watchlist should include those hovering on the edge of being good picks for all sorts of reasons...returning from injury, stand in players, new signings...stuff like that.

To be fair the guy has a point. Jonty does a great job trying to find subjects for the daily hot topics as you say but the mods and contributors have the main articles for their discussion topics, I think the daily hot topics should be mainly contributor led and I think the mods miss out on a load of very useful posts and contributions from the community that would make excellent discussion topics.

As I say nothing against Jonty and his hard work but I have got in the habit of not even clicking on the hot topics tab anymore due to all that seems to be there is the same old same old form the same people every time.

That's true 😀 but I think that's FPL's fault tbf, as they originally had him as Fábregas and have only recently corrected it and I'd gather FFS got copied the names from the FPL lists.

It'd be good if FFS had a price rising/ falling section, and maybe a kind of ticker on matchdays which showed goals, assists etc at a glance. Basically, the best its of fpl statisics and totalfpl- it would save me valuable seconds opening new pages!

FFS can't just copy the other sites though.

FISO fell out with totalFPL for allegedly plagiarising their price change algorithm without giving them credit.

Also a Hot Topic archive so we can easily find more than just the most recent 10.

Also still think it would be incredibly useful for both the site and the whole hot topic 'filoshofee' if you could have the option to display a select number of hot topics at the top of whatever page you're on, regardless of article etc. Would massively help discussions to continue and maybe slow down the page rates (yeah, I doubt it either)

Basically even those hot topics last for what, a couple of hours on the most part, with the occasional straggler posting on it, only to be ignored as people have moved on.

Being able to post on those old posts and the ones just posted concurrently would be a massive improvement imo, and I think myself and many others would actually continue those discussions for far longer. As it is now the site moves on and despite being highlighted they are for the most part forgotten and ignored.

      Great topic Jonty.
As well as price changes I'd also really like the site to have tabs or a menu to easily find key articles like 'frisking the fixtures' etc. I know it isn't that difficult to find using the search button but would be even better with tabs (I'm thinking of football365 with their tabs for faves etc).

I'd like the season ticker (which is the most important tool, imho) to include an indication (little triangle in the top corner??? in game weeks where the team concerned has Europlean involvement. It's a very importnat consideration around this time of the year.

Points scores from each week in statistics.

Ability to use formulae to make statistics that are functions of other ones, for example, goals per shot on target (Goals/Shots on Taget) or assists per chance created (assists/chances created).

What about a 'He's due' function:

A percentage that someone likely to score. Hazard hadn't scored away from home all season but he scored 3 in the last 5 away games. He got points in almost every home game except for the last 4.

If a player like sanchez scored double digits for 3 out of 4 gws he's due a blank, no player scores in every game.

      I think Hazard is due

        • 10 Years
        9 years, 3 months ago

Statistically, being 'due' isn't a thing. The most helpful thing you've got is the RMT tool which essentially tells you every players' expected points from week to week.

Hi DB-10 - is the season ticker not enough?
As a member you can sort the ticker by fixture toughness - probably one of the best tools there is for this. Plus in the members section there is a ticker for the next 10 matches if 6 isn't enough.
I'd really recommend being a member for next season - 12.50 (early bird price) really isn't a lot of cash for the serious FFLer!

Final suggestion from me....The most under used part of the members area is the six game projection ....Whilst not new it could certainly do with a more prominent role, either as a stand alone tool or incorporating into the season ticker in some way...

FPL stats to go alongside the existing Opta stats - player prices, points, transfers in/out, baps etc. For those that use the stats tables, it would be great to do things like add filters for players below a certain price, or who have scored x number of points in the last 4 gameweeks, or sort tables by fpl points scored, or see which Opta stats show more correlation with bonus points...

There are probably copyright issues with this, but doesn't the site already have a relationship with FPL? in any case, the RMT tool already has current player prices so it can't be an insurmountable problem.

Also, the ability to show stats week by week across the page for any given player, rather than just showing total stats for a specific time period.

And graphing capabilities, to complement the member tables.

Oh, and an 'ignore this user' button is long overdue.

        • 9 Years

Completely agree here, the tables are great, yet nevertheless an extra visualization aspect would be glorious. In regard to the graphs that's a great idea as well. Something like this would be a great addition to the members area, shot matrix zones, comparisons and correlations between where teams are taking their shots, etc

This is where the idea stems from http://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2013/11/13/5098186/shot-matrix-i-shot-location-and-expected-goals

Great idea! Would give a much better way of determining which stats may be the best indicator of FPL returns as you can have say shots on target (as Doos likes) or touches in the box (as Wakey likes) in a table along with FPL points for the given sample.

Would there really be copyright issues when all that data is freely published for all to see?

all the best ideas already posted, but here's a few niche changes:

      - Bolded player names in the Frisking articles
      - Customisable "Key Stats" in comparison tool
      - Comparison tool for three players (?)

    32. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years

I'd like to have the ability to generate a graph by picking two stats in the members area. Complement this with some PPG, total points, and price stats and it could be a very powerful tool!

Also, I think a rotation optimiser would greatly appeal to people. You already have fixture difficulty values in the ticker, so you could use these to identify the optimum rotation from a user selected set of teams. Much like this tool: http://fantasyfootballfix.com/fixture_rotator/

I agree with the call for a "Rivals" tool on here. It could perhaps be made even better than the TFPL one by including before-transfer and after-transfer rival team value so you can have a good guess at what transfer they have made.

There's so much good stuff on the website already, but my main suggestion would be slightly better representation of data in the member's section or even just the associated articles. For example the Captain sensible article is full of good content but can be a chore to read through. Sqwawka has it's problems, but their multiplayer comparisons are actually really easy to look at and are presented in a way that would be perfect for something like the Captain Sensible article (tabulated numbers & horizontal bars). They wouldn't even necessarily have to be interactive.

Other things I'd be happy to see would include...
An obvious notification for when someone has replied to a comment.
Easy viewing of someone's Hall of Fame rating in the comments section (perhaps not in the spirit of things but I'd like it nonetheless!)
Easier searching for players in the stats.
      Price updates.
A more in depth season ticker with an option to include domestic/european cup fixtures for better planning.

      - Multi-Player Comparison Tool
Our transfers or wild card picks are often done in pairs or sets of players.
(So, for example, I'd love to see a total of Sanchez & Austin's stats vs. Costa & Sigurdsson's stats side by side)

      - Rivals Tool
Where we can input & save our rivals ID#'s to see how they're fairing during the game week without visiting the FPL site & each specific league.
(TotalFPL has a similar tool if you're unsure what I'm on about)

      - Hot Topic Archive
Kudos to @BillyGimore for this one

      - FPL Stats alongside the existing Opta Stats
Every new season we scramble to see how players did week by week the year prior but, the FPL wipes it out so if it was archived here that'd be amazing.

I'd quite like the captain poll to be upgraded to a 'poll team'.

Everyone can vote on a transfer from a select list, subs and captain from an actual team - either this or a hot topic where people can suggest transfers and people vote +1 for the best. See if the wisdom of crowds really works.

Could then be covered in scoutcasts instead of the scoutcast team rubbish!

Happy to run this if we can get it started.

I would like to see more FPL points stats, not just underlying stats.

It would also be interesting to investigate what correlation there is between them, and which combinations of the two provide the best basis for forecasting future FPL points. I suspect that neither of them on their own provide the full picture.

And there is also a third source of information (actually watching the matches), since stats alone can sometimes be misleading.

I live in the US, so logging in before a GW kickoff is something I don't normally do (as it would entail waking up at 5am to walk the dog, get the coffee going, etc etc etc)

with the midweek games of ~ 10 days ago, I decided to pack it in and "work from home" for my afternoon.
      I logged in here.
... which prompted me to repost a rant from a week prior:

      4)
there's absolutely no time to sort the wheat from the chaff in a single page of comments, and have any discourse (which is the whole point of having a forum in the first place) before these dingleberries (see reasons 1-3, above) push the conversations to ... a new page,
      leading to

Have 2 FT and 3.3 in the bank but not sure about who to transfer out first, suggestions mates?

    Krul - Pantilimon
    Terry - Clyne - PVA - Jones - Wisdom
    Hazard - ADM - Walcott - Johnson - Boyd
    Pelle - Aguero - Berahino

    Was thinking Wisdom to Bellerin

Even though Costa has a double gamesweek coming up (whenever that may be) I might go with Giroud. 10 goals in 15 games for Giroud and the left over money means I could upgrade the likes of Wisdom to Bertrand or Cazorla to Yaya.

    Panti Gilks
    Clyne Terry Jones Wisdom Hutton
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Cazorla Puncheon
    Aguero Kane Defoe

1 free transfer, 2.6 in the bank

It's a good feature thanks Mark. Pretty useful for seeing the effect new managers have on teams and whether there's any use in bring players in. Not so much for QPR I should hazard a guess but more to see if WBA have improved defensively that much under Pulis. Shall be looking at Sherwood's affect on Villa.

First thing, if you type, is it either too risky or crazy, it usually means you yourself think it is.

Secondly, yes it certainly is, he was incredibly lazy in the fa cup game, offside for no reason and his passing was not good at all.

Wait and see. He looked poor first half, then second half Villa obviously changed their approach and tried to feed him the ball more( Sherwood was in the dressing room at half time and may have been responsible for Villa changing tact). He had a lot of attempts at goal but still looks well off his best form

You have 3 players blanking in GW27 so no need to get another.
Monitor Defoe, I'm sure he'll be fine but in the chance he is not you may want to ditch him.
If not Di Maria looks like a possible choice to sling out the door.

Okay here's what my team would be for GW27:

    Foster

    Fonte Wollsheid Naughton PVA

    Sanchez ADM Punch Walters

    Aguero Defoe

    Hamer Kane Hazard Terry

What 1 transfer would anyone make to this team?
When would you make this transfer?
(still leaves me with 2 FT for DGW)

Anyone else really looking forward to GW27?

Squad is nicely primed - with a returning Bertie to come in after this week at a cheap price.

Rival has 7 or 8 headaches, 5 or 6 of which aren't going away anytime soon.
