Scout Notes – Gameweek 6 – Sunday

Anthony Martial nets twice, whilst Juan Mata gets amongst the goals as United win at Southampton. Graziano Pelle also bags a brace and Sadio Mane serves up a pair of assists for the Saints. Elsewhere, Heung-min Son scores Spurs’ winner against Palace, whilst Liverpool and Norwich share the Anfield spoils.

Martial at the Double

Manchester United scored with all three of their shots on target as they recorded a 3-2 win over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium. Anthony Martial was the hero of the piece, complementing his debut goal against Liverpool with a brace on his first league start for the Red Devils.

The summer signing – who capitalised on some sloppy defending from the Saints – offers a tantalising route into Louis van Gaal’s attack this term. With Wayne Rooney dropping back into the number-ten berth, Martial serves as United’s foremost goal threat, yet a tough run of fixtures (ars, eve, MCI, cry) beyond a home tie against Sunderland next Gameweek might encourage prospective owners to sit tight for the time being. Nonetheless, over 210,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have already snapped him up since the weekend deadline, with his price rising from 8.0 to 8.1 overnight.

Juan Mata slotted home the visitors’ third goal and his second strike of the campaign. With two goals and a pair of assists to his name, the Spain international has delivered attacking returns in four of his six starts, rendering him a strong option in the mid-priced bracket. Memphis Depay broke his Premier League duck with an assist against the south-coast club but will need to start converting his chances to warrant investment at 8.3.

Having started the campaign with three consecutive clean sheets, United have now conceded five goals in their last three outings, raising doubts over their shut-out prospects during the above-mentioned stretch. Matteo Darmian – a mainstay at right-back up till this point – was replaced by Antonio Valencia at the break, with Louis van Gaal taking the view that Italian afforded Dusan Tadic too much freedom on that side of the pitch:

“Because he gave too much space to Tadic in my opinion, so that’s why I brought on Valencia. I didn’t see Tadic in the second half, did you?”

Pelle Brace Not Enough for Saints

Graziano Pelle scored in either half, but Southampton were ultimately undone by their own mistakes. The Italian frontman proved to be a thorn in United’s side throughout the 90 minutes, ranking joint-top for attempts (six) among forwards this Gameweek. Of Pelle’s last 16 league goals, 14 of them have arrived at home – revealing a clear bias in his scoring habits. Considering that Southampton enjoy an excellent run of home fixtures over the next couple of months (SWA, LEI, BOU, STO, AVL), the 42,000 Fantasy managers that shipped Pelle out prior to Gameweek 6 may live to further regret their decision.

Sadio Mane carded a brace of assists for the second time in three matches, meaning he’s already matched his entire assist output (four) from the previous campaign. Priced at 7.8, Mane has been involved in over half of Saints’ seven goals this term, underlining his importance to their attack. The Senegalese wide man now sits at just 3.7% ownership, making him a differential candidate over the coming weeks.

Budget defender Matt Targett was subbed off at the break, with Cuco Martina slotting in at left-back. Ryan Bertrand’s imminent return from a knee injury offers further incentive for Targett’s 10% ownership to plan for his inevitable benching. Ronald Koeman’s decision to start with Maya Yoshida over Cedric Soares at right-back for the first time this term also raises questions over the latter’s security of starts.

Son Form Continues

Heung-min Son netted the only goal of the match against Crystal Palace, adding to the brace he recorded in Spurs’ midweek Europa League clash. Despite operating from the right flank, Son is classified as a forward in the Fantasy Premier League, diminishing his appeal in the FPL game, with Harry Kane nailed-on as the lone striker. Nonetheless, if Tottenham’s fluidity in attack finds the South Korean international profiting from advanced positions, he could certainly emerge as a viable alternative to the out-of-form Kane, in spite of his starting role out wide.

Christian Eriksen made his return from injury at the 66-minute mark and went on to assist Son’s debut league goal two minutes later. The Danish playmaker’s reinstatement heightens competition in the attacking midfield slots, given that Mauricio Pochettino also has the likes of Erik Lamela, Clinton N’Jie, Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend and Delle Alli as options, along with Son and Nacer Chadli.

The early signs this season suggest that Pochettino has discovered a better balance between attack and defence, considering that his troops have secured three clean sheets on the trot. Only Manchester City (four) have conceded fewer goals (two) than the Lilywhites, yet that could all change when the two sides meet at White Hart Lane next Gameweek – the Sky Blues have rattled 16 goals past Spurs in their previous four match-ups.

Another Blank from Palace

Yohan Cabaye clattered the upright with a rasping strike but Palace were unable to breach Tottenham’s resolute rearguard. The Eagles have failed to net in the two matches that Connor Wickham’s sat out through injury, with Yannick Bolasie occupying the lone-striker berth in his stead. Frazier Campbell earned a run-out up top in the second period – shifting Bolasie onto the left flank – but he mustered a solitary off-target shot in his 50-minute stint.

In spite of Palace’s recent blanks, their attacking contingent will be assessed in detail ahead of a strong quartet of fixtures (wat, WBA, WHU, lei). Bakary Sako (5.6) has certainly offered the greatest threat, given that he’s tallied two goals and one assist across just four starts for the London outfit. Furthermore, he’s currently ranked joint-top – alongside Riyad Mahrez – among midfielders for shots on target (ten).

Rodgers Rings the Changes

Having come on for the injured Christian Benteke – who suffered tightness in his hamstring – at half time, Danny Ings netted Liverpool’s only goal in a 1-1 home draw against Norwich City. The former Burnley marksman could be set for a run in the side if Benteke is sidelined for any length of time, given that Brendan Rodgers reverted to a 3-4-1-2 for the Canaries visit, handing fit-again Daniel Sturridge his first start of the campaign in a two-man strike force.

The Reds’ switch to a wing-back formation saw the more attack-minded Alberto Moreno replace the heavily-backed Joe Gomez, whilst Dejan Lovren also dropped out of the XI for the first time this term. Moreno then bolstered his case to retain a starting berth with the assist (an accurate lofted through ball) for Ings’ goal. Gomez’ substantial 20% ownership will likely be planning an exit route in light of the threat of rotation.

Philippe Coutinho chalked up a whopping 10 shots against Alex Neil’s men but found the target with just two of these efforts. Much to the consternation of his 15% ownership, the Brazil international spurned a glorious one-on-one opportunity, hitting a tame shot straight at John Ruddy. Few Fantasy managers will be looking to part company, however, given that the Merseysiders face a home tie against Aston Villa next time out.

Martin Strikes Again for Canaries

Russell Martin became the top-scoring defender in the league with his third goal of the campaign. Priced at 4.5, the Norwich centre-back is excelling on the attacking front, but the fear for new owners will be whether he’s already experienced his purple patch – indeed, Martin has netted with three of his four attempts this season.

Wes Hoolahan recorded a goal and an assist last time out against Bournemouth but was omitted from the starting XI at Anfield in favour of Graham Dorrans. Neil previously stated that he intends to manage the 33-year-old’s playing time, yet his willingness to drop Hoolahan following an impactful performance throws up red flags for his 3.5% ownership. Neil later explained that he felt the nature of the encounter suited Dorrans’ game better, though he will need to reshuffle his midfield again next weekend, given that on-loan Matt Jarvis cannot face parent club West Ham.

    Any advice would be welcome:

    Butland Schmeichel
    Mertesacker Francis Huth Targett Kolarov
    Coutinho Sterling Mahrez Ayew Bentaleb
    Wilson Aguero Benteke

    3.9 ITB 1 FT

    A) Sterling + Benteke > Martial + Payet -4
    B) Huth + Sterling > Dawson + Payet -4
    C) Sterling > Payet

Got to get WBA defender in soon, but maybe wait until after next game week. Also have to get rid of Sterling or possibly Ayew. Coutinho didn't exactly convince me last game but he's got favorable fixtures ahead. So tempted to use a WC to get the team in shape but wouldn't want to use it before the first DGW.

    Cheers!

In a moment of panic I did the following last evening:

    Shaw > Dawson

    Chadli > Payet

For a -4 hit which I'm mad about. I don't like taking hits. Hopefully it pays off...dumb move or no?

I’m not sure if I should categorize this as rough or smooth – this is a perfect combination of both actually. So I’ll leave it up to the community to decide. So here begins the story to one of the most remarkable weeks that I have ever had. I used my two free transfers to get rid of Pelle and Fletcher for Ighalo and Cazorla. Such was my faith in Cazorla that I captained him this game week, and he got sent off giving me negative points in double. After the first match of the game week, I was looking down and out after the Cazorla fail and the Ozil blank. What’s worse was that I had benched Hazard and Azpilicueta. The pair of them left me with 17 points staring at myself on the bench. Fast forward an hour when I thought of rage WC’ing my team and even quitting FPL for the season, Wilson had got me a goal and Odion Ighalo had scored twice. Ended up on a par score (by FFS standards) of 52 points and got a green arrow to move to the almost 100k places from 265k. You can see my team here:

      http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1094098/event-history/6/

Can’t say I’ve learnt my lessons though. I am captaining Cazorla again this game week!

My big move was avoiding most advice here (Bar Doosra) and keeping Pelle/Not transferring Benteke in. Pelle was then my highest scorer of the week and I used my transfer for Ruddy -> Begovic which also worked out well, despite Ruddy getting his first decent score the week I get rid!

All in all a very good week with 71 points, with a huge jump from 1.2 million to 349k overall rank 🙂

      1b. Failure : Kolarov (c)

      2. Considering my captain scored the grand total of 0, my earlier transfer of Francis proved crucial. Moved from 297k > 175k.

3b. Failure : Mahrez every week until he got injured.

Rough and smooth for me last gw. on the wildcard I did:
Smooth: Shaw, Mert, Gomez, Saylor to Dawson, Williams, Janmaat & Cedric (+24)
Rough: Depay & Pelle out for Ayew & Benteke (-15)

      Rough

I Got Clyne for Shaw and then to make things worse i took a hit to swap Pedro for Countinho and then captained him not a good move i should have been a bit more sensible and looked to Martin on my bench

I went from 43,528 to 84,919 🙁 and have not learned a thing i took hits again this week to keep pace with the market

If i learned anything from this debacle it is never put your faith in Liverpool.

      1. Mahrez(c) for the first time after failing every week since GW1 Rooney(c). Also not wasting using my 2nd FT to do Pedro>Walcott! Glad I sat tight and have the 2 FT's again.

      2. Third consecutive green arrow for a 195k GW rank and up to 939k overall.

      3. Don't be afraid to captain cheaper players, I'm now ignoring price totally and just going form and fixture. All other possibilities failed.. Though I also considered Wilson.

      Very smooth 🙂

This was the week all the players whom i have kept my faith by not selling them scored points in return. (Hazard Mata Pelle). Brought in Myhill for Schmeichel which was also a good move. Captained Wilson ahead of Aguero which also didn't backfired.

In case he doesn't see it...

Rhinos captained Janmaat. Seriously bold. People gave him the LOL treatment when Newcastle conceded, then he had a good ride when Janmaat scored.

Smooth (for the first time this season)

      1. Had Evans third on my bench. He played due to Gomez being dropped and first sub defender Muniesa also dropped. So I got Evans 8 pointer!
      2. 70 point week took me from OR 2,000,000 to a lofty 870,000
      3. I need luck.

      1. What was your move of success or failure? - Having Ighalo on me bench, pure failure.
      2. What effect did it have on your rank? - Still went up but could have been much much better
      3. What have you learned from the move? - I never learn.

Both. Started koscielny and Gomez instead of Francis and Ashley Williams.
Got lucky, and grabbed Francis points when Gomez failed to play
      Minor green rank.
Learned that going with most expensive players is a bias to consider.

      ROUGH
      1. Sold Hazard for Sanchez for a hit. 12 points down on that one. To make matters worse, I played the AOA chip, only for Silva to injure himself in the warm up - chip wasted.
      2. Despite this, I had my best GW of the season to date. Soared up to 1.3m OR! But it could have been so much better.
      3. Don't take hits. And I'm not going to repeat my mistake by rushing to sell Sanchez.

      The rough:
Transferred out Mane and Hazard after holding them for this long and losing substantial value on both.

      The smooth :
Replaced them with Mahrez and KDB

Only just worked out for this week but the way Mane and Hazard looked could still regret those moves.

Took me from 1.9m to 900k with 64.
First decent week , onwards and upwards.

Sold Cedric and Coates for Evans and Francis. Both got 8 points each.

      1. Success
      2. 2.4m to 1.7m
      3. The boring defensive moves can be just as profitable and far less risky than the big flashy moves (Could have gone Hazard to Sanchez instead)

      The Rough
For my two frees this week i did pedro+sakho to benteke+coutinho. That gave me a net loss of 7pts. I lost to Giggs Boson in the FFS Uefa Champions league match by six points. So, if I hadn't made any transfers I'd be 7pts better off and have beaten GB.

The Smooth with a bit of rough
Because gomez didn't play I got Martins 9pts off the bench. Mind you, Giggs Boson also had gomez and he got Williams 8pts off the bench.

Rough: Kolarov. Also, made an emergency transfer to get rid of Pedro because he was obviously at risk from starting on the bench or not at all, right? Then, of all the options I considered (Mata, Oscar, Payet) I chose Shaqiri. Mind you, I'd do it again given how the game turned out - goals and chances aplenty for Stoke.

Smooth: Captain Mahrez, combined with my punt on KDB last week coming good. Silva's injury put him square and centre of all Man City were doing. 63 points for the week, inside the top 1m for the first time this season and green arrows across my mini leagues. Job done!

The Rough - somehow my average captain points managed to get lower, and it was already less than 2pts.

This season I've had 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 0 from Walcott, Tadic, Aguero, Aguero, Ayew, Kolarov. Averaging 1.333 points each (doubled up to 2.66).

      Total Captain Points : 16
Total Captain Points as % of Overall Score : 7.02%
Possible Captain Points if you Always used your Vice-Captain instead : 22
Possible Captain Points if you Always Captained Highest Gameweek Scorer : 136
Total Actual Captain Points as % of Highest Possible Captain Points : 11.76%
      (stats from http://anewpla.net/fpl/index.php )

120 points off the best case scenario and it's only been 6 weeks. It's hopeless really, I've got no faith in anyone any more.

      Smooth - 66 points.

      1. Did Huth to Dawson which gained me 5 points and avoided Huth's price drop.
      2. 790k to 248k rank improvement
      3. Keep faith in quality players showing very strong stats even if returns are not not great. i.e. Pelle

      1. Transferred Ighalo in at week 2 thinking he was a good shout. Transferred him out at week 4.
      2. He's got 22 points since, so probably a couple of 100 thousand worse off.
      3. To trust cheap punts for more than a couple of game weeks.

      So with two free transfers, I decided this was the week to take my first hit of the season. My transfers were;

      Mane (9) to Ayew (2)
      Deeney (5) to Benteke (C) (2)
      Ramsey (2) to Sako (2)

But not only that, I decided at the last minute to put Ritchie (8) on my bench instead of Sako. So had I kept my team the way it was I'd have scored 18 more points plus the 4 for a hit. My half decent 46 could have been 64. Sickening.

      1. Failures: Benched Azpilicueta and Sakho for Bellerin and Defoe. I was also considering bringing in Ighalo for Defoe as I had 2 FT which I didn't end up using.

Success: One word: Southampton. Mane (who Ive kept faith with from GW1) with his brace of assists and Cedric not playing meant Azpi came off my bench for a respectable score of 48.

      2. Only moved down 10 places this week because of that Southampton (in top 1k)

      3. I've learnt not to bench a forward no matter their fixture and not to bench Chelsea defence no matter their form. I've also now made the Defoe to Ighalo transfer before the price rise and have 1FT left for the week

Rough - Drafting in Gomes ahead of Begovic for Courtois. Sakho scoring 7 against City when second on my bench, while Kolarov and Yaya blankied in my team.

Smooth - Captaining Mahrez for the first time and Azpilicueta (7) coming off my bench to replace Gomez.

Successful - 2 FT used to bring in Myhill and Dawson. Result; first 50+ of the season
Rocketed me straight to 1.5m rank. (bit dizzy up here)
That I haven't paid enough attention to my golden rule in FPL - adapt or die - I simply haven't adapted quickly enough thus far.

Might not sound terribly smooth, but by comparison to my opening 5 weeks its criminally smooth -Cha'mone!

      A mix of both here:

      Pros:
      - Stuck the armband on Mahrez for the first time
      - Ended the week on 61 and moved up about 500k places to 431k

      Cons:
      - Wasn't sold on myhill being 1st choice so instead of fixing my gk mess i stuck with schmeichel in goal
      - Had Pelle's 13 pts as first sub and azpili's 7 as last sub. After debating on whether or not to AOA I opted to not use it and I really should have or at least gone with a 3 4 3 instead of a 3 5 2

      Lessons learned:
      - Go with the in form captain for now untill the big hitters start to show some form
      - Don't panic sell just because someone's price is dropping i.e. Pelle. (although I didn't have the sense to start him)

      Super smooth.

My first green arrow of the season due to captaining Mahrez and bringing in Vardy for Kane with my transfer. In addition Gomez not playing meant I got Williams off the bench. 68 pts and a rise of nearly 400k in the rankings.

Best of all my mini league leader took a hit to bring in Martial but left him on the bench. I'm the daddy now.

      Knee jerking at its finest.

Had Silva 2 GW's ago just when he got injured. Decided to ship him just before the deadline instead of saving a FT like i planned and playing westood instead of him, so i could fix my defense.

Shipped him to Hazard. 2 points - FT gone. After Che lost to Eve i kneejerked Haz out for Silva.
Another FT gone and -10 points from Haz and Silva didnt play.

      Defense still needs work.

Rough: being all wise and captaining Kolarov for safety of points only to get Zero.
Being all wise and transferring Pelle out for Benteke.

Smooth: Butland, Francis, Azpi, and Hazard finally getting me some overdue points to give me 61 points regardless of my forementioned idiocy. Highest score of the season for me - funny ol' game

My success story was actually a move I didn't make. I resisted serious temptation to reverse my Silva->KDB transfer. Thankfully I got lucky and KDB netted me 10 points.
He helped me to 63 points for the week which has taken me from 560k to 190k (still miles off but moving in the right direction. I also have 2 FT for next week.
It has reminded me that 1) luck is a major major factor in this game, and 2) bank those transfers if possible!

Transfers have paid off for me big time:

GW5: brought in Evans and he's returned 6 and 8 so far over the last two gameweeks
GW6: brought in Moreno and he got 8 points
GW7: brought in Martial for Benteke.... let's see if I can make it 3 in a row 😕

Despite only one (c) success in GW2 (Benteke) I've managed to get green arrows every week and stand at 54,000 rank. Seem to be struggling with (c) choice a lot, but who isn't? 😕

What I've learned is that there is no blueprint for transfers; each team differs. Some might prioritize getting form players like Mahrez and Wilson, whereas others will ensure they safely get 11 players out each week by dealing with injuries straight away.

      Rough and Smooth

Sold Ritchie for Sako having been a Ritchie owner since GW1 if that wasn't bad enough I played my All Out Attack at 11.40 Saturday morning, wasn't planned at all, spur of the moment failure because Silva went and got injured so it was completely wasted!

Richards came off my bench for 3 points and to make matters slightly worse I had Williams with 8 points sitting second on my bench.

Bad Aguero (C) call for a fourth week in a row.

But the Smooth came after all finishing on 57 points (hardly a brilliant score but the best score I have got all season) boosting me from 1.9m to 1.3m rank.

So all in all pretty happy even if i missed out on Ritchie and Williams points. Onwards and Upwards!!

      Rough:

Benteke & Darmian off at HT.
      41pts (640k > 720k)

I used 1 FT for Ward > Nyom (could still work well...)

Transferred in Coutinho and Benteke. Who scored 3 pts.

Lost out on 14 pts and used an extra free transfer.

      First of all the smooths:
      1. Was going to captain Kolarov till the last minute but then realized it's all about that big haul from Kun and would be just around the corner. Thus switched to Agüero and avoided another captaincy failure.
      2. Brought in Jonny boy Evans instead of Dawson due to his superior BPS potential (and yeah heard the scoutcast last week with Mark willing to bring him too) and he delivered me extra 2 points! 😀
      3. Had the yellow caution mark on Diouf the whole week but instead chose to leave him there and steel up my defense first ( thus the Evans move). Also started him but benched Payet. Well Payet came off the bench to give me those very welcome 5 points!

      Rough:
      1. Not even considering Mahrez for captaincy.
      2. Benching Payet (this one paid off eventually)

Finished the week with 50 points(not bad) and 256 overall coming under a million for the first time this season.

      Lessons learnt:
      1. When CS are easier to predict and there's a dilemma between whether to do the defense or the forward transfer, always go for the defense! And yes, look for the BPS potential too.
      2. Don't take hits if it's not absolutely necessary (avoided Sako transfer). You will eventually end up only fielding 11 players on the pitch not 13!
      3. Form over fixtures this season (Payet).
      4. Keep captaining Kun, he'll eventually explode.

OUT Sakho, Anya, Shaw (9 points)

I got the points from wilson and mahrez.
      Missed out on Sakho
      VVD did nothing
Got price rises/ avoided price falls.

    a) Aguero
    b) Sanchez

    £24m+

are eating up a hell of a lot of my budget and giving little back

how long are people prepared to persist with each ??????

I think Sanchez will make way to KDB next week after Leicester

Hold - if both explode this weekend everyone will be playing catch up trying to get them in.

Sanchez is overdue. He's like that giant fault line off the Washington State coast.

Surely it's time to captain Mahrez? Arsenal missing caz makes a big difference and mahrez's home record is outrageous.

Which parts of the Scoutcast do you like most and which do you like least?

    For me:
+ Discussion about next week's transfers
    + Community questions
+ Most popular transfers in (bandwagons)

    - Rough with the smooth (decent story last week but it doesn't really serve a purpose for me in what I hope to get out of the Scoutcast)
    - League updates (I think this doesn't happen anymore though)

I love them and even listen to the back catalogue occasionally for nostalgia and sometimes to remind myself of previous trends (by the way, any chance of episodes older than episode 96 being downloadable?).

        Pros:
        Discussion of next week's fixtures
Guest managers (particularly previous winners or people doing well in the current season)
Discussion of transfers to cover the next few weeks
I love it when a topic (often from the community) is properly discussed such as team fixtures vs player form or is team value important or how to plan to use the chips

        Cons:
Rough with the smooth goes on too long. I like the concept but definitely a bit of preparation would make the section smoother
Missing the Professor's RMT action, even if just to go through the gameweek best options on the stats alone

Perhaps rough with the smooth could be shorter sometimes, especially when people are having the same rough or smooth stories but overall I like it as a part of the Scoutcast.

I also like league updates (and did before I was in them!). As you say though not much time is given to them now anyway.

I love the community questions the most, was a good idea to go primarily to that only.

Personally, I just like discussion about football and fantasy football that is thought provoking and makes me consider my options for the week. Rough with the Smooth is a good concept but it's pretty repetitive and I don't really see the appeal hearing about someone who captained Mahrez or got points from his 3rd sub.

Hope this doesn't come off as being a bit hostile/aggressive, it's not supposed to be. Just my 2c though.

Feedback is always welcomed, especially constructive, think Mark and Jonty have shown that plenty of times 🙂

I agree that rough with the smooth can get a bit samey, but generally the additional people are skipped over. I like it as a concept though

I was a bit strong on rough with the smooth. A couple of the best ones of each kind is fine. I just meant it drags on a bit is all. Putting Jonty in and talking more in depth about players etc has improved it no end. 😀

I think this is a good wake up call re rough with the smooth to perhaps bundle them up a bit better. I think we need to spend a bit more time preparing them so that when read out its easier on the ear and still covers some key moves.

x, y, z all did well with Gomez's no show with Martin coming in.

Rather than reading out the detail of all three.

We started bundling up the community questions more and that's worked out really well I think in avoiding repetition.

Yeah that sounds like a good solution, Jonty. It's evident that people think it's a good concept but it just drags on a bit so perhaps bundling it will help make it that bit shorter or less repetitive. Cheers for responding to feedback. 🙂

Each to there own I guess, I just think the bragging rights between those guys provides half the entertainment if the podcast. I'm sure there could be more valuable information but a whole hour of doosra tables and why isn't Aguero scoring questions isn't all that fun. The guys personality are what keeps me listening.

It's certainly an element I miss and with 3 hosts now it could basically be the top gear of podcasts.

I've listening to this for a long time and think it's awesome so great work guys!

Having Jonty as a regular is a positive thing for me as gives a different perspective. He has a lot more positivity than Granville's murphy's law outlook! Not that I don't appreciate a good old Granville miffed rant.

I would like to see a return of the heavy hitter game as thought that was a decent segment as it was good banter and provided an indication of captain choice and cheaper differentials for the week. Could include Jonty or keep the battle between Mark and Granville.

I agree with the comments that rough with the smooth is a bit long. Maybe just one or two of each.

I would also like to hear total points / overall rank with game week scores. 'I got 65 points this week which takes me to 25k overall'. I know this happens sometimes but I think this is info that most listeners are interested in so they know how they are doing in relation to the guys on the pod.

Having guests is also an excellent addition. Especially the likes of Simon & Tom as it's interesting to hear the views of previous champions.

I like the Scoutcast and look forward to it each week. Agree that Rough / Smooth goes on too long and could be shortened to one of each

I think they should have more varied guests - it just seems to be the same pool of "Friends of the Scoutcast" - nothing wrong with any of them, I would just like a bit more variety.

I have said this before, but I would love to hear from some of the people who consistesly do well and are at the top of the Hall of Fame - Ville Ronke, Triggerlips, etc to hear how they do it. They could call it the "Legends Series" or something.

A lot less Rough with the Smooth, please.

More Mark, currently spends too much time refereeing Jonty and Granville.

Agree with above poster too about Jonty giving out too many specific member's stats nowadays.

+ I also liked "fancy on a risk"

For me, my favourite parts are the community questions and the discussion of next week transfers. It's a bit stalker ish, but I respect the three scoutcasters opinions and like to see what they are doing with their teams - and even see them as a bar for my own ranks.

Rough with the smooth goes on for a little too long, although I like the concept. The only thing I'd like to see change is perhaps a bit more preperation from the scout casters. Quite often they come into the scoutcast (Looking at you Granville!) not knowing who certain teams are playing, or even who players play for on occasion!

Prep would also help the questions from the community run a bit smoother, I like it when Jonty used to Hulk the posts he would be talking about. If he started doing this again, the other two could have a look and see what is going to be asked and could check out some stats, tables etc. to back up their arguments.

      Just my two cents! 🙂

Would the FFS League and Members League be mentioned more if more of our leading players were nearer to the top of the overall rankings, like they have usually been in previous seasons?

Out of all the football podcasts I listen to - ramble, guardian, times, 5lfd... The scoutcast is easily my favourite. I would love it if they could do 2 episodes per gameweek - one review and one preview. International week is bad enough without having to go without a scoutcast too. I don't mind what they talk about, I just love it. Very much enjoyed the mini games between mark and Granville and would like them to include a new game with jonty included.

The rough/smooth needs to be shortened if not legt out entirely. Its okay but you have enough posts on the forums to get a feel of how well/bad managers have done. Just check out the first 5-6 pages of 'The Scorecheck' and that will give you all the info you need.

More guest appearances. As much as the trio are brilliant and gradually building a dynamic a guest with a new twist/perspective is always interesting for the listener.

This isn't so much feedback as it is a suggestion. IMO, I think it'd be great if you guys could put more emphasis on getting top HoF players as guests, rather than whoever is #10 at the time or doing particularity well on FFS, as I think there's more to learn from HoF'ers (like Ville).

      - rough + smooth can be a bit disjointed and goes on too long

Love the Scoutcast, look forward to it every week.

      * Rough/smooth could be one of each.
      * Captaincy choice doesn't seem to be discussed all that much? Might just be me.
      * Clean sheets bit is great. "Differential of the week" or something similar would be awesome i.e. outside the context of their own teams.
      * I never catch the comment/thread where questions are to be put forward (or is it email?). Maybe if this was more prominent, such as a separate article with a link to the comment - and questions/topics could be voted on.

These are minor issues, it's great. Thanks for doing them.

I personally don't like Rough with the Smooth - we see it enough on the boards as a hot topic and it definitely doesn't need to be repeated. Honestly, what benefit does it give listeners? Might as well call the segment Captain Hindsight.

Personally love community questions and the discussions of next week's transfers. Also like the banter of course about thought processes of the Scouts' latest transfers. Good to get into the complex thinking behind what is essentially 4 clicks of the mouse.

I tend to agree with this. Rough with the smooth is basically people moaning or boasting, which is what half of the comments on articles are anyway! It takes up too much time on the Scoutcast, which could be put to better use.

However, I only point this out because of how much I love the rest of the Scoutcast so want as much of the good bits as possible 🙂

I know that most of the current overall leaders in FPL are Man City supporters who selected and captained the likes of Yaya, Kompany and Kolarov from the start rather than Aguero and other big-hitters, played their Triple Captain and/or Bench Boost chips very early, have never previously finished in the top 50k and may well not do so this season either.

But it might still be interesting to give a quick name-check on the Scoutcast to the current leaders of the FFS and Members Leagues and to hear what their current ranks are and how fast they are closing (or otherwise) on the current overall leaders. And perhaps also have a quick look at what they have done to get to the top of our leagues.

Perhaps it might also be interesting to mention how some of the top players in our Hall of Fame are doing, if that isn't too embarrassing for them. If nothing else, it might encourage the rest of us who are also having a rough time!

It's the first season I've decided to give the scoutcasts a listen and I've really enjoyed them so far. I tend to agree that we get enough rough with the smooth here on the threads though. Community questions are prob my fav part. They're very beneficial as I'm sure we all ponder/debate over very similar issues.

I would like to see the scoutcast team promote different resources that are widely available for free. By this I mean have them talk about fplstatistics as the go to source for price changes and can encourage the community to help improve the accuracy by submitting their fpl id's (see here http://www.fplstatistics.co.uk/WC/CreateWCID). There's also that fpl get team info script that is AMAZING and can save each manager loads of time. I don't think there's currently enough exposure and I'm sure some members have even gone on to improve the script which may be worth sharing. Another one I saw commented here yesterday is this site http://anewpla.net/fpl/index.php, which does what the gargatron used to and more. And to me the most useful fpl phone app is differntial fpl (though it's a paid app). Just saying it'd be good to share these resources with other members as it'll surely benefit the community as a whole

There have been many suggestions on here that the Rough with the Smooth section of the Scoutcast ought to be shortened to say one or two cases where everything touched turned to gold plus one or two cases where everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
And leave out all the similar stories of one or two decisions happening to turn out well or badly.

Basically, these stories all include a larger or smaller amount of good or bad luck in a single game-week, but we could learn a lot more from hearing about those who have had a successful season, or a sequence of successful seasons.

For example, Jason Smith, the new leader of the FFS League in FPL, has 365 points and an overall rank of 104th without playing any chips. Pretty impressive when you consider that 31% of the top 10k have already used their Triple Captain chip, 28% of them have used their Bench Boost, 12% have used their All Out Attack, and 23% have used their First Wildcard (and the figures for the top hundred must be even higher)!

Meanwhile Ville Ronka, number one in our Hall of Fame, who in 7 FPL seasons has never finished outside the top 5k, is currently at 336k with 275 points. So anyone doing better than that is currently ahead of some very good players. He doesn't always make a great start, but he always finishes well.

not that I'm going to... but why can I only sell Mahrez for 6m when he's now worth 6.4m?

You shouldn't be able to sell him for 6.. It should be 5.9. He's raised 0.9 overall so half of that 0.8.. He needs to rise 1.0 for you to sell him at 6.0.

Only getting around to transferring Shaw out now.

Had planned to do a straight swap with Darmian. However Utd defence appears to be a state of flux after Shaw's injury. Rojo, Darmian, and Valencia didn't play full games. Also toyed with doubling up on City defence but already have 3 city players so can't.

On the basis of Chelski's next few fixtures and Zouma's performance at the weekend I now plan to do:

    Shaw > Zouma

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

Well he has played the last 4. Scored a goal last game and was part of the defence that beat arsenal and kept a clean sheet. Was thinking Mourinho wouldn't want to change that given results before that. Also want to keep in roughly same price bracket as Shaw.

        So Dawson so?

Just transferring to a WBA defender from Utd defender and not a "top 4 defender" seems so wrong (despite the FPL stats!).

LvG on A.Martial's goal: "He is running always behind. That is what I like in him. He is very important for us now already."

At his price, almost essential I would say given the lack of form elsewhere..

United have a striker now, it comes as a relief for United. 4-6-0 formations don't really work
