Team Form Focus – Gameweek 8

Team Form Focus is a weekly article analysing the in-form teams in the league and the ones failing to deliver. The statistics are taken from the last six Gameweeks. I’ll also be picking out a player who has the potential to do well for the next Gameweek or several Gameweeks. Potential clean sheets are another area to go under examination, with two or three teams being tipped each week to shut the opposition out.

THE FORM TABLE

KEY: P = Played, GS = Goals Scored, FS = Failed to Score, GC = Goals Conceded, CS = Clean Sheet, PTS = Points.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Matthew Jarvis — The left-winger goes under review this week, with Norwich having a good run of fixtures over the next three – Leicester (H), Newcastle (A) and WBA (H). Jarvis has played three games for his new club – where he is on-loan, scoring in two of these games. Both of his goals came at home – one against Bournemouth in the league and the other against West Brom in the League Cup. My reasoning for picking Jarvis this week is because of his run of fixtures until Gameweek 11, where a lot of managers are looking to play their Wildcard’s. Jarvis can also be a differential over these three fixtures with an ownership of 0.0% and can then be carried over for those playing their Wildcard and used as a 5th midfielder for the season – coming in at a reasonable price of 4.9. Jarvis can be very useful as a 5th midfielder as he can be used to cover for injuries and more importantly he can be used effectively when playing the All Out Attack chip or the Bench Boost chip. Jarvis’ records in the Premier League is very good, considering the minutes he played in some seasons. It has been four seasons since he notched over two goals in the league, but he now has the chance to play a pivotal role in Norwich’s attack and may even reach his heights of eight goals and six assists, which he accumulated back in the 11/12 season.

THE CLEAN SHEET PICKS

Manchester City, West Ham and Tottenham — Manchester City still have the best clean sheet tally in the league, despite losing the past two games. They face a Newcastle side that have only scored three goals in the last six Gameweeks, with these goals being scored in their last two games – both of which were at home. Newcastle travel to the Etihad on Saturday afternoon and I think the home team will win comfortably to nil. Another Saturday afternoon game is Sunderland v West Ham. The Hammers have played three away games this season and have only conceded one goal against Manchester City. They look likely to keep a clean sheet against a Sunderland team who haven’t scored a goal in three league games. Spurs have turned into a defensive stalwart of late, conceding only 1 goal (Man City) in their last four league games. After Swansea’s terrific start to the season the Welsh side have stumbled of late, scoring only a solitary penalty in their last three Premier League games.

Hopefully Jarvis helps Hoolahan to a haul. Norwich is the go to place for good 5th mid options this season.

    Agree with Spurs.

Totally baffled why peeps are not picking up on how much they are improving with their young squad as the season deepens. Their spirit and performance to thump Citeh was a joy to watch.

Erik back can only improve them further and with Dier and Alli protecting the back four, the future looks solid.
