Injuries

Treatment Table – Gameweek 8

Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini confirm that Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero were withdrawn for precautionary reasons ahead of the upcoming internationals. West Brom have worries in defence, whilst Liverpool’s playmaker pulls out of the Brazil squad due to injury earlier today. Here’s our round up of the weekend injury news…

Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez came off after 81 minutes against Manchester United in visible discomfort, though Arsene Wenger was quick to allay fears over any injury, confirming that the wide man is set to feature for Chile in the upcoming internationals:

“He has a little groin problem. Unfortunately he goes to Chile. You cannot stop him from going to Chile and he loves so much to play for his country and he will play against Brazil [on Friday] and Peru [next] Tuesday so the game at home against Brazil he will not want to miss. Hopefully he will come back in good shape.”

Aston Villa
Ciaran Clark sat out the Villains’ 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City after picking up a thigh strain, Tim Sherwood has confirmed.

Chelsea
Goalscorer Willian was replaced by Loic Remy at the 64-minute mark of Chelsea’s home clash against Southampton, with Jose Mourinho later explaining that he took counsel with the club doctor after the Brazilian became ill during the break:

“When the fans boo the Willian decision, I would do that too if I didn’t know he was vomiting at half-time and the doctor said it would be hard for him to carry on.”

Leicester City
Jamie Vardy received a heavy blow to the knee in the first half of Leicester’s trip to Norwich City but was able to carry on and complete the match. Claudio Ranieri sought to allay fears over the form striker’s fitness, insisting that Vardy sustained no serious damage from the collision:

“No, nothing serious. When I saw Vardy on the ground I thought it was a bad injury because Jamie never stays down. When he came close to our bench, the physio said it was his knee, but he was stable and he continued to play.”

Liverpool
Philippe Coutinho has withdrawn from Brazil’s squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers, with Liverpool’s official site offering no details on the nature of his injury.

Danny Ings confirmed he sustained a minor injury during the Merseyside derby but expects to be fit for upcoming England duties:

”I struggled through the game – I just got my ankle caught in Phil Jagielka’s legs. As the game went on I felt that I couldn’t move as much. It will be assessed but should be fine.”

Manchester City
Following his five-goal frenzy, Sergio Aguero was substituted after 66 minutes at the Etihad. Manuel Pellegrini said that the Argentine marksman received treatment at half time after taking kicks to his back and hamstring in the first period, so the Sky Blues boss elected to exercise caution and manage Aguero’s minutes:

“He had treatment at half time, and to give him more minutes he could have scored but we must be cautious about his fitness, because he could be injured. Last season Kun finished the season without any problem. He is doing a different preparation, so I’m not worried about injuries, you can be injured by kicks of course but muscle injuries he should not have any more.”

Newcastle United
Newcastle United defender Kevin Mbabu picked up a hamstring complaint in the process of trying to prevent Aguero scoring his third goal of an eventual 6-1 thrashing. The Switzerland U19 international is now set to undergo a scan to ascertain the extent of his injury.

Norwich City
Lewis Grabban rolled his ankle during training last week so was ruled out of the Foxes clash, but Alex Neil expects him to be sidelined for longer than a week.

Stoke City
Marko Arnautovic was subbed off 21 minutes from time after scoring the only goal during the Potters’ visit to Villa Park. Mark Hughes played down the reason for the winger’s withdrawal:

“He just cramped up in his back which needed unlocking.”

Meanwhile, Mame Biram Diouf was stretchered off in the second half after damaging his hip. Hughes admitted that the striker is unlikely to team up with Senegal during the international break.

“He’s been in a bit of pain. He’s got an issue with his hip and hopefully hasn’t done anything to the capsule in the joint. But he’s struggling to walk and I’d be surprised if he meets up with his international team because he’s in a lot of pain and can’t weight bear.”

Swansea
Kyle Naughton missed yesterday’s home draw with Spurs due to personal reasons, reports in the local press have confirmed.

Watford
Jose Manuel Jurado missed Watford’s trip to Bournemouth with a hamstring injury, while Ikechi Anya has been given the go ahead to travel with Scotland despite being subbed off with a leg injury.

West Bromwich Albion
Jonny Evans lasted just 24 minutes at Crystal Palace after picking up a hamstring strain, while James Morrison took a blow to his ankle in the second half. Both players underwent scans to determine the extent of their injuries:

“We’ve got a problem with (James) Morrison – he’s felt his ankle. The home nations, we want to help them as much as we can. Me in particular, if I can. Fingers crossed they’ll be okay. If they’re anywhere near it, we’ll give them a chance to play. It will be all down to the doctor. He’ll scan them tomorrow. The scans now are fantastic so he’ll know whether they’re serious injuries or not.”

Elsewhere in the Baggies camp, Gareth McAuley suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that saw him miss the home clash with Everton last Monday. The defender is expected to recover in time to start for Northern Ireland during their World Cup qualifiers.

Darren Fletcher has trained for Scotland earlier today despite picking up a knock during West Brom’s loss at Palace.

West Ham United
Winston Reid was subbed off after 66 minutes at the Stadium of Light, whilst Victor Moses has withdrawn from international duties with Nigeria, claiming a lack of fitness.

Is Martial => Pele right for a hit (gonna postpone till Peles price raise)?
Also your thoughts on Payet => Walcott for next week (baring injury)

Don't like Payet > Walcott. Maybe someone else > Walcott but not Payet. Martial > Pellè is opportunist. It could work and Pellè looks the better pick. For a hit? I think this week is the best time to make the move so I think I would.

I would stick with Payet. Hammers excellent on break, he's on FK's and his pass accuracy is great = better bonus potential..??

I feel Payet is overachieving and his output can't last forever.Walcotts goal threat compared to Payet is off the roof (the nailednes may be an issue, but I feel he has pretty much cemented his spot for the first 70 minutes of a game :))

I got 1.7 ITB with Mahrez/Sanchez/Mane/Cabaye - Cabaye => Walcott is not an option

Im usually not happy about taking hits! But now Im considering a 12pts hit!
Its only because the players I want in are going to rise, so this is like my last chance to get them.
Am I mad, or can I earn back the points in a couple of GWs?

    Hazard > Silva
    Martial > Pelle
    Targett > Dann
    Westwood > Hoolahan

This is how my team will look like:
    deGea, Hennessey
    Kolarov, Francis, Moreno, Huth, Dann
    Hoolahan, Silva, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez
    Aguero, Pelle, Vardy
    0.0 ITB

Think this team will make it much more easy for me in the time that comes. What do you guys think? Im in the top 40K

Not unless Mourinho mans up and makes his autocritique. They've been sub top4 quality since the latter half of last season, only managed to turn bad performances to victories back then. Now they're continuing badly and all that their manager does is that he finds scapegoats everywhere. Continue that, and they will struggle to finish in a EL position.

Perhaps. He's not known as the epitome of sincerity.

I've considered it too, that it's all his mind games. It may be profitable, as he blames everybody else, he may get them to consider that he's got a point and start to favorize him. He's succeeded in that before.

Still, nothing in what he does to his actual team in matches suggests a real recognition of the problems.

Was considering Martial to Pelle but have already missed the first rise and my Martial selling price is 8.2 (his CP is 8.4). International break and potential injuries putting me off, missing that first rise has taken the edge of making the move to.

My defenders need attention as Dier suspended and have Home and Targett (Kolarov and Francis the others).
Gomez to Hangerland a better move or hold on to see what Klopp plays?
No funds to do anything decent with Targett, he can stay 3rd Sub fodder.

I'm in the same boat. Feeling apprehensive about getting Pelle in this early but wary of price rises. This international break is one that requires players to really get stuck in and give their to get qualification for the Euros. I predict some injuries and thus have not pulled the trigger.

My thoughts too. I usually fear the price rise, but think I'm gonna hold off.

Martial looks good, but no one creating chances for him. Pelle will just troll me again.

What's your thought on holding on to Gomez to see if he gets back in under Klopp?

I'm a LFC fan and think the first thing and new Mgr is going to do is either tighten up or go all out attack. Not sure what Klopp will do.

Not sure what to do with my free transfer. Zero in the bank. Need to sort my defence. Gomez obviously needs to go but I'll need to downgrade someone else first to get someone decent. I'm thinking of doing Kolarov to Dawson this week then maybe Gomez to Dann next. Any other suggestions what you'd do with this lot?

    Fabianski, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Darmian, Richards, Whittaker, Gomez
    Sanchez, Silva, Mahrez, Payet, Westwood
    Aguero, Vardy, Martial

Been unable to do Gomez to Toby, without taking a hit for weeks.

Seriously considering taking the hit this time, as my next FT is tied up and it strengthens by defensive rotation for the next 3 games.

    LIV, bou, AV (Toby)

    v

ARS, Lei, MAN (Prodl, Souare, Souare)

Is it worth the hit ?

I'm sure you'll get a lot of dislikes, as it does take a lot of risks... I like that though. Sometimes it's more fun to take proper punts (not just one player different to the template!) than to play the percentages.

The heavy Chelsea is very interesting - I take it you're gambling on Mourinho getting things together in the international break, and them finally hitting form afterwards? If that happens, you'll be very well placed to take advantage. Good fixtures certainly. The flip side is that you're banking on both City and United to fall away, that's more of a punt I think.

Wijnaldum's been on my radar too - if Ayew had disappointed I'd have moved him out , as it is I can't find space - and Krul is a solid choice with those fixtures. I'm not sure Ramsay is the best value at his price though. Pelle and Mitrovic I think are worth exploring as forward options too, based on form/fixtures. Possibly Sturridge over Costa, too. New manager and all that.

      Good luck with it!

This isn't having a go at Rodgers. It shows that the committee know what they're doing.

Tony Barrett - Rodgers wanted to sign Ashley Williams instead of Sakho, Ryan Bertrand instead of Moreno and Clint Dempsey instead of Sturridge.

Paul Joyce: Klopp will sign on a three-year contract by the end of the week. He wants to work with the existing transfer committee. #LFC

Out of the three, Bertrand would've been the least worst I guess. Sakho far superior to Williams and Sturridge way more so Dempsey. The transfer committee are really good. And Klopp will work with them. Says a lot about the misinterpreted signings.

Totally understand that but Dempsey. No coincidence that Williams, Bert and Dempsey had all played in the PL that's why he wanted them. He was offered to have a DOF. Didn't want to and paid the price in the end

All the well run clubs i.e Bayern, Atletico, Juventus have a recruitment team, it seems as if Liverpool have just given theirs a name. I think ours are good, have some flaws, but are more good than bad. There's a wrong conception about them in the media. i.e why wouldn't a new manager work with them?

My issue is the presence of FSG reps on the board. Its important to run a club very well, especially as they grow, but I wager the division of weight given to the different members on the board of say Bayern is different to that of Pool. I'm not saying Klopp won't, or shouldn't, work with them, but his best time came under a strong DOF. Would be clever to try and do something similar again if he signs for Pool.

Rodgers politics. To put it into context, he's France first choice LCB over Kos, Laporte and Mangala. And the former 2 in particular, are exceptionall

BR is stubbornly playing his chosen players. Maybe you haven't noticed, but it's the second season in a row that was going all bonkers and BR _had_ to bring Sakho from bench to save their otherwise weak defence. He played wonderfully well last season, but was demoted back to bench for this season regardless, and if they just let BR continue, he would find his way to the bench again regardless of how well he plays.

To be fair, Williams and Bertrand weren't bad calls at all.

"Paul Joyce: Klopp will sign on a three-year contract by the end of the week. He wants to work with the existing transfer committee. #LFC" This has caused my old concern to come rushing back. Needs to be a DOF.

zorc out of contract so maybe in the summer, don;t think it will be him but the committee isn't as bad as people think the problem is no proper players wanted to play under rodgers. firmino was convinced by coutinho etc.. gerrard texting kroos to come lol.... this is embarrassing stuff

        1. Somalion
          • 14 Years

He's extended his contract to 2019 I'm afraid. They're not that bad, but I think there is far too much interference in that set up. I agree some of it is a bit laughable, but I think the solution is for FSG to place real faith in a good DOF.

I honestly think he'll be fine with how it is just him making the final decision, I think he wants control of what players come in and FSG will give it to him in my opinion just because of the pedigree he has over rodgers.

Bertrand would've been the least worst. Sakho far superior to Williams as well.

Yep, we spoke about it a few months ago. A dof will be appointed - Klopp has never signed or sold a player. Always been Zorc. Grae Kelly, your good friend ( 😉 ) says that Zorc's contract is up next summer but FSG want Monchi if available

Not including spending 29m the likes of Firmino this season, some of the signings with the transfer committee:

      Joe Allen (15m)
      Borini (10m)
      Assaidi (2.3m)
      Yessil (1m)
      Sakho (18m)
      Tiago Ilori (7m)
      Mignolet (10m)
      Iagi Aspas (7m)
      Luis Alberto (6.8m)
      Emre Can (100m)
      Rickie Lambert (4m)
      Adam Lallana (25m)
      Lazar Markovic (20m)
      Dejan Lovren (20m)
      Divock Origi (10m))

The 3 examples you have given aren't enough to base an opinion on one way or another. Here is a more comprehensive comparison:

"Barrett also claimed that Markovic, Moreno, Mamadou Sakho and Divock Origi were committee-prompted signings, while Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Christian Benteke were Rodgers’ selections."

"James Pearce claimed that Rodgers previously identified Michel Vorm, Christian Eriksen, Wilfried Bony and Diego Costa as potential targets, with each overruled or overlooked by other members of the committee."

      Also from a separate source:

"David Prentice writes how journalist Tony Barrett revealed the players Brendan Rodgers has signed by himself and those players that the transfer committee has brought in.

The players said that have been signed by the transfer committee include Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli, Mamadou Sakho, Lazar Markovic, Alberto Moreno and Divock Origi. Whilst those signed by Rodgers are Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Christian Benteke."

This is a week where I finally find myself feeling relaxed and in no rush to change things even with a couple of defenders I feel need attention. I sit with KDB, Alexis, Kun, TV at 104m (102.8 selling) and look at all the teams in my mini leagues and they have one of them at most.

They will now all clammer to get them in and destroy their squads to do it. None of them have good TV so will have to fill their boots with fodder I wouldn't touch. Feeling like there has been a seismic shift in the game in the last 2 weeks. Thank you Kun and Alexis for choosing the English Premier League and proving form is temporary, class is permenant. 😉
