The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

If only I listened to my own advice instead of going Pelle and Hazard for -4 ...

Only a certain type of manager would have gone for Wijnaldum this week. Most posters here aren't that type 😉

This is true, I like to be a bit out there but couldnt see past Hazard this week 🙁

Had him as captain all week until I backed out last min for Pelle. That extra 23 points is haunting me 🙁

              11 years, 4 days ago

Unlucky, though you though it seems you were swayed by talk here then. I bought Pelle in as my Kun replacement but I wasnt going to captain him. Stuck with my guns and went with Sanchez.

              1. Kurtinho
                11 years, 4 days ago

I wasn't swayed by this site. Pelle was definitely my plan B based on gut feeling also. He did manage to hit the post!

                  yeah, that 'assist'.

Well if it makes you feel any better I had Sterling and didnt captain him. Though, unlike you I actually wanted to sell my hattrick player so I count myself lucky!

Who are people trying to bring in for the turn of fixtures in GW11?

    What are your priorities?

For me i would like to get Man U defensive cover , SOU defensive cover and maybe just maybe someone from EVE defending, but unlikely at the moment.
Also, considering Mata for Mahrez at GW12.

    1. louisds
      11 years, 4 days ago

Also considering the same swap (Mahrez to Mata). I want a United player after this next GW.

      1. Prøphet

Yea i am looking at the same, just not sure how to go about it

      Lukaku

    3. danishdynamite
      11 years, 4 days ago

Lukaku, could be tempted by Mata (already have Mahrez) and Baines

Already have three S'ton players but they after the royal fassucking they gave me this weekend they ought never to show their faces again

Yea, seems like a good pick when playing. Not even sure why he isnt in the number 10 role all the time. Mata has kinda drifted last few GW

      Have Lukaku, considering Coleman

  4. Kurtinho

FPL is not a one-week game. People need to start realising that transfers should be judged over a number of weeks to deem whether they were successful or not.

      this

    2. Bobby_Baggio

      1. Diva

No. take 5 minutes and smell the roses first, then buy!

Hi guys, hope you all had/are having a good GW. My defence is currently:

    Cech Schwarzer
    Azpi Bellerin Kolarov Cedric Saylor

Who would you recommend as Kolarov replacement? I don't want to spend more than 5.2

    Cheers

            11 years, 4 days ago

            1. trinzoo

You must have 5.4 for Rojo or Jagielka since GW11 🙂 that's my plan!

              1. Pochecinno
                11 years, 4 days ago

Just seen Rojo has only played 2 games this season. This player would have to start.

What about Galloway as a nice cheap option into Everton?

So how many panic buys for Wijnaldum?

    1. Pochecinno
      11 years, 4 days ago

Lol. This has to be the ultimate knee-jerking/points chasing I've seen this season

    2. Diva
      11 years, 4 days ago

20,000 and counting transfers in. Can't say what proportion were down to knees jerking though.

      1. dmhomag
        11 years, 4 days ago

Is it still a knee jerk if I have been staring at my knee all morning?

        1. Diva
          11 years, 4 days ago

It depends whether you have spent that staring time considering all the evidence and weighing him up against the prospects for your existing midfield and other midfield options before making a decision... 🙂

        11 years, 4 days ago

Lol that's insane - don't get me wrong they have fixtures behind them so cant slightly understand but it is still a hench knee-jerk!

    3. El-Kloppico
      11 years, 4 days ago

I thought about it last week and more so, wanted to get him in for Hazard. But unfortunately gave Hazard another week.
This is not a bad cry since Wijnaldum is by far the most creative player for Newcastle and with the fixtures turning tasty for Newcastle, he was the man to get in.
Even against big opponent, he was the one to show something in the middle of the park.
Newcastle was bound to turn their season anyway.

I salute those who saw right and got him before this GW, and confident, he'll still come good given the fixtures coming up.

  7. Alittude

    Davies to Alderwield
    or
Drinkwater to Payet for this week?

Davies is currently my 3rd defender.

    1. Alittude

rest of defence is Bella, Dawson, Nyom, Francis.

And besides the Kola transfer I would like to get Wijnaldum great fixtures and form I think but I don't know if it's kneejerk move.. would transfer him with Mahrez ( -4) cause I got Vardy or transfer him with Surman but then I will have bench headace's..

Wijnaldum is a good player but Ruddy should have done better on some of those goals and another took a big deflection. Sometimes a player just gets lucky so not even remotely tempted to get him in.

    1. Tshelby

You got a newcastle player in your squad? they are hard to ignore with those fixtures imo

I look at the league table, look at their scoring stats, look at CS stats, look at some individual stats...

I wouldn't be so sure. Sagna is a very far 3rd choice LB after Kolarov and Clichy imo, and Kolarov played the majority of games towards the end of last season too ( don't recall whether Clichy was injured or not ), so he might even have nailed his place in the starting XI.

All ready have Bellerin ( dann, Targett, Kolarov, Richards ) I can afford Kompany but think he's too expensive so I'm leaning towards Toby but I need to know if it's essential to have a city defensive cover

No idea why Tinkerman keeps starting Okazaki ahead of Mahrez and Ulloa, he looks useless in the team

        11 years, 4 days ago

oh yeah, only that reason is accepted.
when he played up front as target man (Vardy on the left), he is far worse than Ulloa
when he played in the hole support Vardy, Mahrez is far better than him in that position

Work rate. Him and Vardy running their socks off every week

    3. Kaki Tido
      11 years, 4 days ago

To wears down the defence I guess since he got bundle of energy/work rate & then sub him. Maybe that's why Leicester got a lot of late goals.

    4. Pochecinno

I think he likes the excitement of grabbing points from the jaws of defeat. Mahrez is his 'not very' secret weapon

Neat... hits this season isnt a bad choice... not like the previous season that's for sure.. last season i had like -24 i think

          11 years, 4 days ago

I play slightly more with an eye on TV in the first half of the season so I have flexibility later on - I'm unlikely to take as many hits after christmas.

Verdict seems to indicate it isnt the hits but getting the right form players this season.. of course the second half is all about no hits - long term policy 😉

Morning all - at a loss on what to do here...

    Bego - Henny
    Bellerin - Bertrand - Dawson - Kola - Nyom
    Sanchez - Mata - Payet - Mahrez - Gosling
    Pelle - Lukaku - Berahino

Thinking of Gosling > Eriksen (and bench Lukaku) ?

    1. Respect My Authoritah
      11 years, 4 days ago

I definitely wouldn't bench Lukaku. Its the kind of game he thrives in. Hold or lose Kolarov

Is anyone else staring down the barrel of a problem week next weekend?

Payet vs Chelsea, Sterling vs Man Utd away, Pelle vs Liverpool away, Sakho vs Chelsea

Not sure where my points are coming from apart from Leicester!

Don't want to waste a transfer even though I have £7 mil in the bank.

Anyone else have a dilemma about short terms vs long term planning?

    1. Respect My Authoritah
      11 years, 4 days ago

Payet and Sakho look good bets for points imo. Pelle is, as ever, hit and miss, regardless of fixture

Payet vs Chelsea (is a best fixtures for him, WHU played well in harder fixtures

    Butland (Elliot)
Alderw - Azpi - Moreno (Souare) (Cook)
    Sanchez(c) - Mata - KevinDB - Payet (Wanyama)
    Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku

Good to go? Or do Mata -> Wijnaldum? Or other suggestions?
