Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 11

The Suspension Tightrope claimed a new victim this week as United’s Matteo Darmian earned his fifth yellow card of the campaign in yesterday’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park. Owned by 18% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, the Italian now misses the home clash against West Brom and with Antonio Valencia still injured, Louis van Gaal has decisions to make at right back.

The Tightrope welcomed four new faces over the weekend, with 14 players now standing just one caution away from a single-match ban. Palace playmaker Yohan Cabaye, Swansea skipper Ashley Williams, Watford’s raiding right-back Allan Nyom and Liverpool midfielder Lucas are the latest recruits. The latter was perhaps a little fortunate not to earn a second yellow in the 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge after a foul on Ramires resulted in no more than a warning and proved a major post-match talking point.

Whilst Jose Mourinho was reluctant to comment for fear of FA disciplinary measures, Lucas, unsurprisingly, commended whistler Marc Clattenburg’s decision not to send him packing:

”They [Chelsea] will probably talk about it, it’s normal especially when you lose a game. The first three fouls in the first 10 minutes of the game probably were just fouls that maybe wouldn’t be a yellow card. Sometimes in my position you make fouls but more to stop the game and I think it was a good decision from the referee. He controlled the game very well, all the situations with the Chelsea players I think he dealt with it really well and I think it was a fair game.”

In terms of other new suspensions, Norwich will be without skipper Russell Martin for the Gameweek 12 home encounter against Swansea. The versatile defender was dismissed at City for denying a goal scoring opportunity – his handball in the box handed the hosts their first penalty.

Southampton will be devoid of Victor Wanyama’s services for next weekend’s trip to Sunderland. The Kenyan international avoided climbing onto the Tightrope after he was dismissed for collecting two bookings in this afternoon’s home win over Bournemouth – instead, he remains on three yellows and has been handed a one-match ban, thus returning in time for the Gameweek 13 clash against Stoke.

West Ham’s James Collins is set for a three-match ban after being dismissed for violent conduct during yesterday’s surprise loss to Watford as Slaven Bilic’s side lost for the first time on their travels this term.

After qualifying for the Europa League due to their fair play record, the Hammers have now received four red cards in the first 11 Gameweeks under their new manager, with Mark Noble (rescinded), Carl Jenkinson and Adrian the other parties concerned.

Bizarrely, this was the eighth red in just 11 Premier League matches involving West Ham. There has now been a sending off in each of their last four league outings, with Sunderland’s Jeremain Lens, Palace’s Dwight Gayle and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic all seeing red in the three fixtures prior to yesterday’s trip to Vicarage Road. Taking all competitions into account, there has been 12 red cards flashed over West Ham’s 18 fixtures with Bilic at the helm – the London club have been culpable on seven of those occasions.

Finally, reports this evening suggest Diego Costa could be set to escape retrospective action following another spat with nemesis Martin Skrtel. The Chelsea striker appeared to dig a boot into the Slovakian’s chest after both fell to the ground during the Reds’ 3-1 win but it’s believed that referee Clattenburg saw the incident and decided to take no further action.

Given that Costa has already served a three-match ban this season, this will be a huge relief for the under-fire Jose Mourinho if confirmed. Taking his previous ban into account, another stint on the sidelines for violent conduct would have earned Costa a four-match suspension this time around and forced him out of the upcoming league matches against Stoke, Norwich, Spurs and Bournemouth.

Looking at Demi's Hot Topic...I can see many people reluctant to sell their Leicester Assets...For those who do sell and bring someone else during their tough fixtures It could turn out to be a good Differential...

I tried that last week (Vardy -> Bony). Didn't work 🙂

I'd definitely be keeping for the next 2 weeks at least. Leicester look full of goals.

Ignore..I don't think they will keep up with this..plus if he goes out during international break..Manager will bench him against newcastle so that he is fit for the United Clash..

Exactly.. i'd have Vardy over him every day of the week and i would not want to double up for those fixtures. Last 2 games Vardy has looked fantastic and threatening throughout... Mahrez only noticeable for his assist and 2 goals. I really do think him being pushed out on the wing will lead to a decline in output soon..

    Butland McCarthy
    Azpi Kolarov Bertrand Francis Richards
    Sanchez KDB Payet Maherz Westwood
    Pelle Lukaku Vardy

    1 FT , 3.3 itb

I think priority is to sort out of my defence..

Azpi --> Smalling or should I look for Richards/Francis replacement first?

    Thoughts are appreciated!

Good differential amongst active teams, but Lukaku high ownership hurts when he scores well like yesterday. Rank dropped from 64k to 82k yesterday, annoyingly.

Not really, Juve has been picking up, they're 6 or 7 behind the league leaders now.

Also, with Lichsteiner, Khedira and Alex Sandro fit again, I'd say they have the quality.

Oh dear! That's poor Oh talk about buttering us up!! 🙂

Not sure you need to lose Souare, unless you can upgrade him to van Dijk or Bertrand, whcih you can't.

I'm not a fan of Janmaat, due to clean sheet potential. It's a similar scenario to me with Francis (although mine's probably worse. He has good CS potential, but I never realistically want to start him.

      Perhaps:

      Janmaat > Moreno
      Gomez > Ward

      If that works budget-wise...

    LVG's world:

Two problems, where best to fit your captain, and second, with Valencia and Darmian out, we have a problem at the back.

Voila, we have a solution. Rooney at right back. Atleast then the mid and front would be sorted out.

    So frustrating for United fans..

Sanchez (TOT) - de Bruyne (avl) - Payet (EVE) - Mane (sun) - Mahrez (WAT)
Pelle (sun) - Vardy (WAT) - Ighalo (lei)

Those are some nice fixtures. I'm really tempted to Bench Boost this week. I'm still unsure about the potential to build a full DGW team later in the season to capitalise on the chip.

i'm just enjoying watching ppl's heads explode 😆 ... benching one of the "cheap" Leicester boys/Ighalo seemed safe before this GW happened.. now it'll just be chaos regarding benching decisions 🙂

Everyone you ask is going to say Payet cause he is the attacker.. however you are losing your AOA with Bertrand having an easyish fixture. i'd much rather use it when your defenders are injured/have poorer fixtures. you'll have the same benching dilemma next week and the week after with your current squad anyway

Let's say Mahrez Vardy and Ighalo all blanked in GW10, would that help you anymore for this GW11 fixture?

not talking about me.. i'm happy. i always play with a good 8th attacker so i always play the odds and accept bench points. Aguero money has made it a new concept for most and it's driving ppl crazy.
And yes.. i do honestly think that if one of the Leicester boys/Ighalo blanked last week it would be an easier decision for most this week. that's how FFS has always worked.. most recent result rules all

    DDG
    Williams. Kolv. Moreno.
    Sanchez. Mahrez. KDB. Ayew.
    Vardy. Ighalo. Pelle.

    Sub: Payet. Bellerin. Prodl.

1 FT. Save right? And you think team is set up correct?

    Butland
    Bertrand Kolorov
    Sanchez Maherez Yaya KDB MATA
    Lukaku Vardy(C) Pelle

    Mc Carthy Williams Richards Targett

    1FT 0.5 ITB

    A. Play this AOA, save FT
    B. Mata to anyone and still play AOA
    C. Richards/ Williams to Moreno. No AOA

Thoughts on KDB going forward? I'm a fan but not sure he justifies his hefty price tag.

Right now I have him and Drinkwater as 5th mid. Just playing around I could do

KDB > Ozil and Drinkwater to Wij/ayew

Not a fan of bench headaches but xmas period could be handy. I'll assess KDB over the next few weeks anyway.

I actually think he will do much better WITH silva, especially if the newcastle game is anything to go by. Silva makes the entire team tick, which will allow kdb to find himself in even more advanced positions.
