Mahrez unless you have Vardy, instead of doubling up on LCFC go with an Everton player.

I posted this on Friday while the pages were moving quickly. It tickled me writing it, anyway 😛

I think we should all have a "manager classification" next to our username. This will give the person receiving advice some context as to where it is coming from - along the lines of:

(to be narrated in the voice of Sir David Attenborough...)

    Dullard

The manager often with the fewest number of transfers in their mini-league, the Dullard considers a player as a season long partnership. Like a courtship in the wild, the frigid Dullard has to be convinced of the incoming player's calibre and potential for returns. But once smitten, the Dullard remains ever loyal in the face of bandwagon whims and the fickleness of form.

Thought to have an excellent memory, wise Dullards return to the mating grounds of seasons past to re-establish fruitful relationships. Such is the bond, the more extreme Dullards have been known to nurse players in their squad long after a season ending injury.

    Sheep

The Sheep is an insecure creature. Reassured by the fantasy flock they move quickly to stay in touching distance of their mini-league neighbours. Their eye sight is limited and a mild panic can ensue if they start to become separated from the herd. The mass migration of Sheep is one of the wonders of the world; starting the week as a slow trickle, once word gets out of a new bandwagon, Sheep can gather in numbers and show a surprising turn of speed.

Due to their vast numbers, the weak and slow to respond fall to the back of the herd and are often left with slim pickings. Tragically, some Sheep find the bandwagon at its most bare and must face up to enduring the rest of the season having discarded valuable points.

    Punter

The Punter is the lone wolf of the fantasy world. Feeding little and often, Punters must learn quickly to find their next source of points. Curiously, success has come when these creatures work co-operatively in small packs. Perched high on vantage points, they scan the season ticker for juicy pickings often willing to chase difficult prey in the hope of a bonanza.

You're likely to hear a Punter before you see one. Following a successful excursion, boisterous Punters will crow about how they were the first to identify the bandwagon. Paradoxically, at the first sign of Sheep they will vacate their windfall in search of the next one.

This is a dangerous time for a Punter. An ill-timed move can have far reaching consequences on the player's season. Immature Punters have been known to wander aimlessly, their confidence shattered, a shadow of their former selves.

I'm a maverick I guess, try to stray away from the template by trying to find the next best possible option & stay one step ahead. It worked pretty well earlier in the season, I'll generally try & keep a differential or two in my team. If there's a fixture swing on the horizon for a certain team, coinciding with decent underlying stats, I'll probably take a punt on the most sensible option from the team.

Most FFS users (especially those new to the site) are Sheep, and the Scouts are their Shepherds.

The best players, those who attain high positions year after year, are Dullardhinos.

But the ones who have the most fun are probably the Punters.

      Two more manager classifications needed:

      Troll.
The Troll deliberately offers bad advice in the hope of nobbling potential rivals.
If he makes it sound reasonably plausible then he may fool a number of the Sheep and Punters, but the Dullards are less likely to fall for it.

      Non-expert.
Unlike the Troll, the Non-expert does mean well. But, perhaps because of his inexperience, his advice is not the best.
Newcomers to the site are encouraged to help other posters, and not just to just post RMTs without contributing anything useful in return. But sometimes this results in cases of the blind leading the blind.

They do say that two heads are better than one though, so perhaps it might still be useful to bounce your ideas off someone else, even if the other person is no more expert than yourself.

Actually, the Non-expert is probably also a Sheep, Dullard or Punter.

We just need to remember that no-one is perfect, but that some offer better advice than others.

I would like to suggest a slightly wider badge system.

First, I don't think that Sheep need a badge, and they probably wouldn't be proud of it anyway. We can just assume that any newcomers or others without an alternative badge is probably a Sheep.

But everyone should be allowed to choose a Style badge for themselves (e.g. Dullard, Maverick, Punter or Hit Addict).

In addition, A Veteran badge could be awarded to anyone who has played for a minimum number of FPL seasons (say 5).

And a further Proficiency badge could also be awarded, say Expert for at least one Top 10k finish, Master for at least one Top Thousand finish, Super-Grandmaster for a Top Ten finish, and World Champion for a number one finish.

An HoF ranking could also be shown for managers in the top 200 (say) of the Hall of Fame, if this is not all getting a bit too unwieldy.

I have also posted this as a separate comment (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/12/09/say-what-14/?hc_page=3#hc_comment_12064985).

I wouldnt. You have a lot of good players in defence, simpson is the best cheap alternative imo. You might need money for Sanchez/haz etc. some day. Or even Kane. For free, perhaps, but see no reason to hit for it.

How much weight do yous put on what team a player plays for ? . I think alot of people ruled out Ighalo because he played for Watford and ignored the fact that his numbers were impressive regardless .

Many also ruled him out because he's so cheap - they just don't trust a bargain.

The same reason why they benched or sold Mahrez.

The players who get the most points are not always the most expensive ones, nor do they always play for the top teams.

There tends to be some correlation by the end of the season, but there are often also some notable exceptions.

I don't think this actually affects many people. It's more of a myth. Nobody seemed to have a problem with having and captaining Austin or Kane once they hit the form last season, or Vardy this season. It's simply that if the price is low it usually is because the player either isn't nailed on (Kane at the beginning of the last season) or plays for a carp attack (Ighalo).

Jonty benched Mahrez for his 15-pointer in GW 11, and quite a few were talking about benching or selling him before his 21-pointer this week, despite the fact that he has scored more FPL points than any other midfielder this season.

Those who benched him appeared to be doing so mainly because they had a strong front 8 and he was their cheapest midfielder.

Those who intended to sell him appeared to be doing so because he plays for Leicester and they didn't trust him to be fixture-proof against stronger opposition.

Many made the same mistake last season with Kane, and benched him for his first big haul. Many also refused to acknowledge the unexpected improvements by Yaya and Ramsey the season before.

Prices are set according to expectations at the start of the season, but there are often a few bargains who emerge later and perform much better than expected. Some of these may have far higher prices the following season, but why wait till then?

      2. Camp No No

There are some who only use "big hitter" forward captains in the mould of Aguero, RVP, Suarez and Rooney, but other than that, I'd say most are happy to have their key players for little money.

    2. Camp No No
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 8 months ago

Yeah, the team affects it a lot. The problem is that Watford's numbers are not impressive at all, so while I would trust Ighalo to get some returns, when money is in abundance I found strikers I'd just trust more, largely because they play for better teams.

Don't lose for Vardy for anyone. I wouldn't be rushing out for Kane either, he's been terrible, and given that Newcastle just bounced Liverpool it could be tighter than you think.

Alli, however, as a 5th mid is a handsome prospect!

Ali looks good and saves cash. No rush yet on Vardy. You'll regret losing value and Kane is fairly pricey.

Not sure on captain yet, Hoolahan, Jenkinson and Francis on my bench, I'm thinking a -4 this week.

    Any ideas?

Despite my Firmino (C) fail, I have gone from 21,125 to 11,633 with Lukaku still to play.

I expect to drop a little bit after tomorrow night however. Still pleased with where I am though, highest rank I've ever had!

How does this look for -4 lads...?

    Butland
    Bellerin. Moreno. Alderweireld
    Silva. Mahrez. Ozil. KDB (c)
    Vardy. Lukaku. Sturridge

    McCarthy. Pieters. Huth. Anya

    Serious crisis!

    Bench one of:

    Ramsey / Özil / Mahrez / Delofeu / KDB
    Kane / Vardy / Lukaku

I have Aguero - should I ship him to Lukaku or Kane / someone else. Vardy and Ighalo are my other two strikers. Or beef up Surman and play 3 5 2 hanging on to Sergio?

    Any advice would be appreciated.
