This Much We Know – Gameweek 26

Our attentions turn to the weekend’s 10 matches now as we look for any pertinent lessons learned. Sunderland and West Ham’s playmakers produce the goods, Liverpool’s attack may need reassessing as the injuries ease, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham’s form men strengthen their differential appeal by picking up the points once again.

The cat is out of the bag with Khazri…
After earning both assists in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool, Sunderland’s new playmaker needed just two minutes in his first home start to get amongst the goals in a vital win over United. Khazri’s set-piece prowess also led to the Black Cats’ second as Big Sam’s side moved to just a single point from safety last weekend. With their momentum on the up, the 6.0-priced Tunisian already looks the catalyst as Sunderland attempt to pull off yet another great escape.

Everton’s inconsistency will prompt a Lukaku exodus…
It’s one goal in seven now for the big Belgian after the Toffees failed to find a way past a West Brom defence that rolled up to Goodison with just two clean sheets in 15. Certainly, Roberto Martinez’ men can’t be faulted for trying – they fired 33 efforts without success against the Baggies but with a blank Gameweek 27 looming large, it’s no real surprise to see that Lukaku has earned over 40,000 transfers out – almost double the number of any forward. A trip to Villa in Gameweek 28 may be tempting but the move to Jamie Vardy is becoming obvious, given the Foxes’ upcoming fixtures.

Payet’s end product is worth the wait…
The West Ham playmaker served a reminder of his Fantasy talents in a 2-2 comeback draw at Norwich. Payet’s output had been underwhelming since returning from injury – with five blanks in six prior to Carrow Road – but a 13-point haul, courtesy of a goal, assist and maximum bonus, took his average to 5.7 points per game – fourth amongst midfielders and on a par with the likes of Sergio Aguero. The cut-price Michail Antonio has offered value for money as a Hammers alternative but with Manuel Lanzini edging towards a comeback and Victor Moses also in contention, Payet remains the Hammers’ jewel in the crown.

Despite Costa’s form, it’s a case of just Willian…
A goal and assist in Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle continued the Chelsea striker’s fine recent showings. It’s seven goals and three assists in eight appearances under Guus Hiddink now for Costa, who, despite moving to just six points behind Sergio Aguero, remains in just 7% of Fantasy Premier League sides. With Aguero and Harry Kane nailed on for many, and with Jamie Vardy looking the obvious replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Costa’s propensity for picking up injuries and suspensions seems set to keep him off most Fantasy managers’ radars. Meanwhile, the 7.0-priced Willian moved to a single point behind the Hammers’ Payet after bagging his third double-figure haul since the departure of Jose Mourinho and continues to offer an excellent Blues alternative in the centre of the park.

Targett is back in the frame…
Having recovered from injury, the Southampton youngster was immediately reinstalled to the starting XI for the trip to Swansea. Despite netting the winner against West Ham, Maya Yoshida dropped back down to the bench as Targett returned to left wing-back in a 3-5-2, with Ronald Koeman preferring Ryan Bertrand in the back-three. After helping his side to a sixth straight clean sheet, the 3.9-priced Targett – who has now produced 35 points in his last four starts – looks back on the radar as a route into the league’s in-form defence.

Ranieri will sacrifice Mahrez flair…
Whilst Jamie Vardy benefitted from his role as Leicester’s new number one spot-kick taker, the Algerian’s owners were left with no more than a one-point haul after he was subbed off just before the hour-mark at the Emirates. For the second successive Gameweek, Mahrez was withdrawn early as Claudio Ranieri looked to tighten up defensively and protect a lead – this time as a result of Danny Simpson’s dismissal just minutes into the second half. As alluded to in last week’s Say What article, although Mahrez remains one of the first names on Ranieri’s team sheet, his minutes may well be somewhat restricted late on in matches depending on the circumstances in any given Gameweek.

We’re still unsure on Mertesacker….
A minor injury to Gabriel saw the German return to Arsene Wenger’s first XI for yesterday’s home clash with Leicester. Mertesacker had started 13 straight league outings before being sent off early on against Chelsea in Gameweek 24 and, in his absence, Gabriel certainly took his chance, helping the Gunners to successive clean sheets against Southampton and Bournemouth to suggest he could be a bargain buy at 4.3. One look at Arsenal’s remaining home matches (SWA, WBA, WAT, CPL, NOR, AVL) indicates that investment in their rearguard could reap reward, though for now, there still seems too much uncertainty over Laurent Koscielny’s central defensive partner to take the plunge.

Wenger’s attacking options might just be the title clincher…
Arsenal’s strength in depth paid off decisively against Leicester after subs Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck emerged from the bench to grab a goal apiece in the 2-1 comeback win. Whilst that’s good news for the Gunners’ title hopes, it merely adds to Wenger’s options in the final third – both are able to play out wide or up top and are starting to threaten Olivier Giroud’s security of starts, given that the Frenchman has netted in just one of his last seven. With Alexis Sanchez still firing blanks, the appeal of Mesut Ozil was again underlined by his last-minute assist for Welbeck’s winner – the German has played a part in 53.8% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, more than any midfielder in the top flight.

Sturridge and Coutinho could put Firmino back in his box….
With the Anfield treatment room finally emptying, the summer signing’s Fantasy potential took a turn for the worse despite a 6-0 rout over Villa. Moved away from his “false nine” berth as Jurgen Klopp shifted to 4-2-3-1 to accommodate Daniel Sturridge up top, Firmino’s single assist was overshadowed by a trio of assists from Philippe Coutinho at Villa Park. Given that he scored or assisted seven of his side’s previous 10 league goals, yesterday’s downturn in output suggests the summer signing may struggle to remain the best route into Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Alli is distracting us from Eriksen’s appeal….
The Tottenham playmaker continues to remain under the radar as a result of Deli Alli’s far kinder price tag. At 8.5 to the youngster’s 6.0, Eriksen has been largely overlooked in what is turning out to be his most influential season at the Lane – yesterday’s winner at the Etihad helped him serve up a third double-figure haul in the last five Gameweeks. Both Alli and Eriksen have been in involved in 31% of Spurs’ goals when on the pitch, indicating that if price is no object, the Dane may well be worth the extra outlay.

Villa are barely playing for pride…
Steamrollered by Liverpool in a dire home display and with their only form player sparking a twitter storm and angering fans on the back of that 6-0 rout, Villa look down and out. With their morale on the downturn, Remi Garde’s side – who now find themselves eight points adrift of safety – are in danger of becoming whipping boys in any given Gameweek, with a trip to Stoke looking tailor-made for the Potters to take advantage.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      Dissenting opinions on this matter.

It seems like DGW34 will have more teams than DGW37, but will probably have blanks in 35.

I am planning on TC GW 34, WC GW 36, BB GW 37.

But still too early to say anything for sure at this point.

It's alright for us to laugh at these "casuals", but we'll probably find ourselves with with other injuries after GW27 and have to postpone any such Sturridge thoughts. Then he'll score three against Man city. We won't laugh then. FF is such a capricious mistress.

Selling Aguero for Costa and I gave him the armband.

Had I not done this Lukaku would have had the armband.

      14 point difference!

      58 for the week.

Smooth - Captained Payet! 😀 Also own Eriksen, and double Southampton Defense (Forster, Targett). Finished on 69 points, went up 200k places to around 350k OR

Rough - Benched Dawson CS, another Alexis Blank, transferred out Kane (6pts) for Rooney (1pt). Last minute Toon consolation snatching my Ivanovic CS.

      Overall happy though.

Nothing crazy - rough is the same as most people, Lukaku (c). All fairly standard though, and a small (1,010 place) green arrow.

Smooth - not panicking with my 2FTs and just using one for future planning.

Pretty boring week, looking at it.

        Rough

        - All out attack used- Ended up with 4-3-3. Arnautovic and Oscar both missed out unexpectedly.

        - I had taken a -4 to go Walcott > Oscar also.

        - Oscar was also my captain fail, picked the right game in a sense, but him not playing was a disaster. Luckily my vice captain was Firmino in a 6-0 win (1 assist thats the smooth for me recently!).

This is all compounded as needs to be taken in consideration with the previous week.

-That week I had gone King > Arnautovic with an eye on GW30 and the Lukaku/Walcott doubts.

        - I got excited by bring in Arnautovic, so benched Mahrez!

        - It was okay though as 92min in the Arsenal game and Walcott hadn't come on, so Mahrez was coming off my bench unless Walcott came on in the 93rd min.............. Hence my rage transfer out of Walcott to Oscar for a hit.

        - I had brought in Arnautovic instead of Bennett > Huth. I freely admit that I wouldn't have played Huth for his 2 goals though, so would have been bench points.

So basically if I hadn't done Arnautovic and stuck with King for another week, I would have had

        - 13 extra points from Mahrez

        - No -4 last week

        - No waste of my All Out Attack chip

When does the next season start?

Ozil last minute assist (Cost Vardy of 2 bonus)
Ivanovic being moved to CB bc of Terry injury (Which won't change unless he comes back)

Rough... No Payet and Aguero(c) meant all out on 40. Simpson red card means I'm now one short now for GW27. Aguero fail particularly annoying as rival went Barjey who also had a quiet one. Chance to make up ground missed!

Smooth... 2FT's to set-up for GW27 due to the fact I couldn't decide which of Azpi, VvD or Borthwick-Jackson to get in for Kolarov. Points missed but glad I didn't get the Utd man now!

        Hello FFS,
New member here. Currently ranked under 25k but a few weeks ago was in top 2.5 k.
Reason for drop is Tinkering with team.... If I had just left it I would have scored more. Does anyone else have the same problem come deadline day at 11.30 ish?
Please feel free to throw my iPad out the window and lock me up in straight jacket on Saturday morning....
Stupidly dropped Lukaku who then got 9 points against Stoke and then even more stupidly sold Sanchez for Barkley who promptly blanked against West Brom...

Very rough. Had 2 FTs and didn't want to waste one.

Moreno (6) -> Cedric (1) and he was dropped.

Played 4 at the back with decent fixtures and it went like this....

        Butland (2) Cedric (1) Francis (0) Koscielney (0) Souare (-2)

Back out of the top million.

I'm still somewhat in disbelief about getting a score of 67 (gw rank of 66k) even with the Aguero captain fail.

Great call on last week's scoutcast about Payet being a great maverick captain pick, by the way. Maybe I should start listening more closely 🙂

Smooth - Ighalo (2) out for Vardy (7) in. Bit of a dumb transfer as I only decided to play him over Alli after I heard Kompany was in.

Rough - Moreno (6) out for Cedric (1) in. Wasting a valuable transfer on a player who was promptly dropped. And all to preserve funds for Sanchez..

Quite surprisingly a mediocre score of 51 was enough to rise from 12k-9k overall.

        Smooth:
I had forgot to press save on my team selection. I was fuming when I realized I had benched a wrong defender and captained a wrong midfielder.

Luckily the 'wrong' captain I left with was Payet (was supposed to be Firmino). And the defender did not matter at all (both smith and dier scored 1 point). Thank goodness I was sloppy for once.

I managed to get featured in the rough of last weeks scoutcast after transferring out Lukaku and benching Mahrez for Naismith. If I had held on to Lukaku I would have captained him this week but fortunately I ended up with Payet as my captain, 60 pts and a jump inside the top 30K.

There are likely to be more games in GW34 than 37. So I'd say the other way around.

As for WC, thinking 33 at the moment

      Score of 39 last week.....

3 weeks ago i started to feel as though i could somewhat rescue my season by getting into the top 100,000 for the first time this season.

      Now im back to 231,000

Every week i look at my team and think it looks decent but i guess not going with the recognised template 100% has killed me off.

No Ozil all season seems to be the main killer..... anyone else having a shocker?

Yet again my team on paper looks good to me but no doubt ill find a way to screw it

      Butland
      Dawson, Bellerín, Azpilicueta
      Sánchez, Payet, Alli, Mahrez
      Vardy, Kane, Ighalo
      (Nyom, Francis, Westwood, de Gea))

It's all very much 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It seems to be that, wherever you got to around GW8-10, you'll pretty much be floating in that region up until now. When you take a risk, there's a huge chance you'll be punished, and it's become extremely difficult to make ground.

I only just got around top 500,000 so yeah shocker is right, though I feel I have decent squad for next few weeks with couple of changes in defence, then it's all about the DGW
        Mignolet, schmeichel
        Francis, bellerin, VVVD, Delaney, CBJ
        Ozil, payet, Willian, Mahrez, Ali
        Kane, aguero, deeney

Yeah with you Disable, having a terrible time of things this season seems benching the wrong players every week (towards 300 points benched this season) wrong captain choices and the likes of Ozil-Sanchez have not helped matters

If your priority is H2H, then you may do it against your best opponent.
But if you are chasing ranks, then you'll be using it in DGW and try hit a haul.

      Bit of advice please -

      Butland / Forster
      Toby / Monreal / Williams / Moreno* / Targett
      Ozil / Mahrez / Alli / Payet / Alexis*
      Kane / Kun / Ighalo*

      2FT & 0.3ITB

      a) Moreno > Fuchs, save 1 FT
      b) Ighalo & Alexis > Vardy & GW30 Mid
      c) Moreno, Ighalo & Alexis > Fuchs, Vardy & GW30 Mid for -4

Any other suggestions or moves I've not considered?

Definitely not expecting them to have a GW 30, but I am at least waiting to ship out because of Sunderland in GW 27 and that the possibility is still there (ever so slight it may be).

Yep it seems that way. Bought them a while back for their run of nice fixtures, but will probably be looking to ship on of Antonio/Payet. If they fail to qualify, they will play watford in GW 30 though, so could make sense to keep/buy.

Depending on FA cup result it could be interesting to do Lukaku -> Vardy, Firminho -> Eriksen. Maybe even Sanchez to Chelsea mid.
